2500 KM update: Still loving the traction and how they ride. The rear tire seems to be wearing really fast. I can't imagine getting more than 4000 km out of it. If you compare it to the Battalax S20, it's actually about the same. The trouble is, the Battalax rear tire cost me about $150 USD and the MT60 cost $280. I'm going to be having a hard look at my options when this wears out. There are heaps of options for the rear, very few for the 17 inch front. I do really like the traction, though.

Have you thought of the Dunlop TrailMax? Check this review out. The guy did a good job at putting the tried through it's paces, from on road to off road. Seriously, check them out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eojce6eJd6mMmJY Many people have a lot of good to say about the Matis E-07's as well.

Yep love these but wear so fast. My standby is Avon Trailriders that beat every thing again.
@ryanwalker94722 жыл бұрын
These are on my scrambler and I love them. I think the compound is soft to help with street grip but that also might make them wear out fast then a harder compound

spot on review, watched this before I bought, put a set on my Triumph 900cc street twin which i ride in the Philippines on roads like yours and about 60\40 to 80/20 on off road, these are absolutely brilliant tires. not sure how they will last, but awesome performance on the roads and trails I ride.

@@ExpatonTwoWheels curious. What was your milage on the mts?. I have a friend running a super Moto I'm going to recommend these to him. Same roads.
@ExpatonTwoWheels6 жыл бұрын
I got 5000 km out of the rear. I changed the front soon after because I went to a more aggressive dirt tire. On the street, it was fine, but in the dirt the MT kept sliding out because the Kenda Big Block rear had a lot more dirt grip and it was pushing the front. It had lots of tread left. Could probably do 8000 or more km on the front. Depends on how low you care to go. In the rear, the last 1500 km the dirt grip was greatly diminished, but the road grip was awesome to the end.

@@ExpatonTwoWheels thanks. That's my expectation. If I get 5 it's good. But I tend to be heavy on the throttle on the street, so time will tell. Awesome tire for my needs.
@ExpatonTwoWheels6 жыл бұрын
I'm heavy on the throttle, too, but my supermoto only weighs 120 kg. So I would assume a 900 cc Triumph is harder on a rear tire. It lasted me longer than my Battalax S20 does, but it's just so much more expensive. The S20 costs me about $150 USD while the MT60 is $280. It may just be import taxes or something where I live. I paid about $480 for the set. I don't like paying more than $300 for a set of tires.

Thanks for the great review. I'm considering replacing the road tires on my W800 with d/p tires primarily because of the road and weather conditions in the Philippines. Getting caught in the rain in rural areas can instantly bring sludge on the tarmac, not to mention the seasonal deterioration of roads even in cities during the rainy season. So, d/p tires seem to be the practical choice.

You probably don't run a 160 in the back. That may be an issue. I don't think they have smaller sizes, but I could be wrong. Other than that, great tire. Great street performance. I took it places offroad I had no business going.

Just got a set put on my scramble, for the same reasons you mention. Love twisty roads, but want to get my bike offroad a bit. I don't have much experience riding mx, so have no real baseline from which to compare this tire offroad. But hooks up way better than when my bike had street tires, and handles the tarmac very well. And yes, they were EXPENSIVE. What's the next tire you're thinking of testing? I think I might give the Shinkos a go, just to see how a similar spec'ed, but much cheaper tire compares.
@ExpatonTwoWheels7 жыл бұрын
I like the heidenau K73. Much cheaper. Developed as a rain tire, but it's in a hard street compound. Seem like the dry grip is less than the Pirellis, though
@ExpatonTwoWheels6 жыл бұрын
For the front tire there aren't many options, but I may replace the rear with a Heidenau K60 for some longevity

Billy jack I don't know, but they don't feel like knobblies at all. They have a really good profile. You'll notice some noise at low speed, but one you're moving, it's like a street tire.

What did I say, 70/30? It's not an exact science. Kenda says their Big Block is also 60/40 and believe me, they are way better off-road and much less suited to the road than the MT60. Check out my Big Block and TKC80 review of you're interested

it’s a 60% Road 40% off-road tire

60%, 70% on-road. It's definitely to the road side of the TKC 80. I think it fits the CB500 really well. Unless you do the Rally Reid stuff, that's not going to be a hardcore off-road adv anyway.

Tried to get these but they don't make them the size I need. Very disappointing as every review positive for traction.
