Shelters are in. Tough spot- more people need to adopt And people should not be allowed to breed dogs without plans for the puppies

Some people in my area breed their dogs with their cousins/siblings/parents just to get a "purebred" then just shove away the puppies if they're born with health problems and sell the others for marked up prices that no many can afford or are willing to pay for what they see as inbred garbage. It's disgusting and horrible what people will do to these poor animals.

Sadly, many shelters don’t have the space and/or resources to keep all the animals indefinitely. They have to make heartbreaking choices but thankfully there are some that can be pulled by rescues and fosters to save them, like this precious one and her pups. With the difficult economy for so many, shelters are overwhelmed by pets who have lost their families.😢

Unfortunately, many shelters are euthanizing pregnant dogs, senior dogs, disabled dogs due to how many dogs they are at the shelters. A city animal rescue has put up signs and publicized they can only euthanize dogs, so if you drop off a dog/leave them in the parking lot, they will be put down immediately! It makes me sick and I don't know why it's ok?

These dogs are very intelligent and they don't deserve the reputation they've gotten over the years. People use them for dog fighting/gambling purposes and are cruel to them from the moment they're born to make them better pit fighters. If you've ever seen a bulldog work with a ranch hand while branding cattle you'll see how protective they are of both the horse and the person riding it and they work as a team until the job is done.

When my cat had kittens in my closet my pit was there guarding the door and helping mom keep them close when they first started trying to venture too far and kept watch and played so gently with them until they were weaned and adopted. His concern was so genuine and seemed so natural. He was the same when my son was born and was his big brother and body guard up until he passed. They aren’t called nanny dogs for nothing. I miss my Ozzy every day.

an absolute angel! we adopted a dog from an abuse/breeding situation a month after finding a litter of kittens under a porch. the second she came in the house she put her mama pants on and cleaned and snuggled and comforted them. it’s amazing what a different species of animal is capable of when it comes to babies

My therapy dog, Nessy, was a kelpie x staff rescue dog who adopted a Guinea pig, 19 bunnies, 1 kitten and one cat, puppies, blue tongue lizards, chooks and baby chickens as well as adult birds, baby magpies, possums... as "her babies" in the 15 years she spent with me. Every time it was like she knew that the animal needed help. I still have her kitten now, as a full grown cat. Shadow the cat took over from Nessy, when I had to make the hardest decision of my life, during the black summer bushfires (she passed over the rainbow bridge 28th December 2019). So far Shadow sunbakes with the blueys (blue tongue lizards), is the fun uncle of the possum babies and security guard to the mummy possum who visits my yard all year round. He also nagged me to follow him one day...only for me to find a big adult bluey had got into a water bucket and was drowning. With shadow's help I saved the bluey and put it back in the woodpile to warm up. The same bluey startles me when I go to get wood in and likes to visit my kitchen in the nasty cold weather, when it has snowed or is threatening to. My neighbours chooks sometimes escape their yard and come visit. Shadow will nag me to let me know. He also likes to supervise any gardening or outside projects and visits all 3 neighbours yards. My neighbours and I have taken to calling Shadow our "neighbourhood watch", like the volunteer organisation that used to exist when we were growing up. Note: he was abandoned by his previous owner over winter and left to fend for himself for more than 6 months. One nasty person tried to kill him in that time using a rake and a garden hose (whipping him). By the time I moved in he was used to being outside but became Nessy's baby and began to trust me. He stresses when locked inside due to the abuse/injuries he went thru as a kitten before i got him. The vet agrees that he has to have access outside to feel safe. Please don't come at me for letting him outside. He doesn't chase birds or even 3 days old baby chickens, he is too well fed to feel the need to. Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

I have a shepherd border collie mix. She is so enamored with babies as I called them. I rescue mama cats for years due to the need in the area I lived in. I have since moved and not had this problem where I currently live, but when I was rescuing, my sweet loving, gentle kind border collie shepherd mix thought she was the mommy. She would let them climb on her. She would lick them and clean them. They would sleep with her. She would even let them nurse on her although of course she had nothing to offer them. they would need on her belly and suckle, it was so cute when she would look at me with those eyes like “mommy what are they doing to me?!” and just continue to lay there until they were all snuggled up, sleeping next to her
