I watched an interview with the cast. They were going to do shirts vs skins in the beach football scene. While waiting to take off, he should have realized he is too old for it and reported a mechanical issue causing the other guy to take over and lead the strike. The Maverick is the cavalry arriving to save the day on their way out.

When I first discovered Pitch Meetings, I carefully chose movies I didn't like to enjoy poking fun at them. Then eventually I started watching the episodes that rip my favorites- and they were still genius. This is that. Top Gun: Maverick was an absolute joy for me as a fan of the original. Ryan's mastery at making jokes about a film without hurting it for fans is epic. This Pitch Meeting actually DID have me laughing and crying. Perfect.

Maybe this is something I should have done. For someone who absolutely loved the movie and has gone down the rabbit hole of production, real life aviation training sessions, planning, and story telling...this was the wrong KZbin video to recommend to me as the first Pitch Meeting to see. I hated it lol
