Thanks for the video! I've had TV most of my adult life - it flares up every year during the summer. I have some protips for anyone dealing with it for the first time. First, make sure you sanitize your laundry!! Dermatologists never seem to think of this but especially underwear, bras and bed sheets can harbor excess yeast and cause it to regrow. A laundry sanitizer (Lysol makes them, in the detergent aisle) and/or Borax in your wash cycle helps a TON. When mine flares I wash 3 days a week with Nizoral & Selsun Blue together, two days a week with Katalis soap (salicylic acid, zinc oxide & sulfur), and two days a week with Noble Formula 2% pyrithione zinc soap. Make sure you leave the lather on your skin for at least 2 minutes. Daily I apply clomitrazole (Lotrimin) and tolnaftate (Tinactin) creams. Since mine are usually pink from inflammation and a little itchy, I also apply Noble Formula hydrocortisone + pyrithione zinc cream. The Katalis soap and the Noble products are available on Amazon. Hope this helps someone!!

Just watched this video about a month ago and realised the rash my 35 year old son has had on and off for at least 25 years actually has a name. He has visited his doctor many times over the years about the rash (which covered pretty much his whole body) and has been prescribed various creams but the rash always comes back. Within the first two days of using Nizoral shampoo the rash has disappeared and so far has not come back. We live in a rather cool climate (Scotland) but my son does do a lot of manual work, plumbing, joinery, tiling etc so does sweat a fair amount and he just can't believe the difference in his skin. Long may this continue and thanks so much for this and all your other informative videos.

Thank you for posting this video. My husband dealt with this for two years, he went to see his doctor he said it was hives and sent him to an allergy specialist. He almost put him on prednisone because they couldn’t get rid of it. I stumbled across KZbin video talking about this condition, so I just mentioned to my husband to use the Nizoral shampoo and within a week it was going away. He was so happy because he dealt with this for two years and was so insecure about going swimming and being out in the summer with short sleeves. Both doctors that he saw never referred him to a dermatologist, both said it didn’t look fungal but they never tested it.

I was misdiagnosed with tinea versicolor when it is actually PMH, progressive macular hypomelanosis. I only started treating this PMH on my early 30s with benzoyl peroxide and Clindamycin. I had this skin condition when I was teenager and had really affected my self-esteem. My skin is getting better now with over 2 months of applying those two topical creams. All I’m saying is, in case your white spots are not really responding to anti-fungal creams, it may be PMH which is caused by the bacteria that causes acne.

I have had chronic versicolour since puberty, and im now 35. Since first treatment, I have used over 150 boxes of pevaryl foaming solution. I find it 10x's better than blue or gold selsun or any of the shampoo variants. If I let the rash develop for more than a week or so after it starts, it becomes so intensively itchy and dry, feels like my skin will rip apart. The yeast takes out the elasticity of my skin. The rash develops over my chest, armpits and arms. Im a pilot in the airforce and wear a flying suit daily, working in hot environments, working hard against g forces. I am drenched daily from flying duties. Despite how rapidly it develops as a result of my profession, I am lucky to recieve free pharmacy, and treat it with peveryl foaming solution monthly which prevents it developing too much. If you need a more aggressive treatment option, pevaryl foaming solution is the best.

Another year went by and the spots had spread to my shoulders and chest. I was over it by then one of my friends asked me what it was and I lied because, I was embarrassed and didn’t know what I had. Then, last week I was doing some research on it and found out I had tinea versicolor. But online the treatments weren’t really clear to me. *Apple Cider Vinegar!!!* I swear to God. Get a spray bottle, fill it with Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar and after a shower, spray the vinegar on clean skin in the area of your spots. Within twenty minutes it will completely change color and dry up. It stings a bit. Especially in any area you shave, so be careful. I literally had it all over my body and it was climbing up my neck through my beard and onto my cheeks! I came to this video because mine flares up in Summertime and if there is something better than the vinegar I’d love to know. But I’ve already tried everything this woman recommended and the only thing that even came close to controlling mine and stopping the spread was ACV. Just know that it isn’t just you, I’ve been standing in stores after work and people will not come within ten feet of me, and it feels awful, but the vinegar will kick it’s ass.

This is such a timely video for my husband and I. He has been struggling with this rash on the top of his left thigh for several months. He was given the Fluconazole, an antifungal cream and a cortizone cream. However, his dermatologist did not tell him how to use the creams, so he ran out of his antifungal cream ten days before he could get it refilled again. So I ordered more of it online, but the rash still looks red and angry. Then I watched him apply the cream by roughly rubbing it in. I think he is probably aggravating it. I am so excited about the dandruff shampoo treatment and several other treatments you suggested.( I have ordered the Vanicream shampoo.)And, that it can be hard to get rid of, and may come back. His was definitely from wearing non-breathable track suit pants to excersize in, then sitting around in them. GREAT VIDEO!! You are most certainly a much better doctor than the one he went to!

As someone who suffered with acne, still with dandruff/psoriasis and still with pityriasis versicolour, I noticed that when the doctor gave me Doxycycline tablets my acne healed AND my pityriasis versicolour disappeared after about 2 rounds of antibiotics. I have tried Fluzonacole and Selsun plus other stuff, with absolutely NO effect, but the Doxycycline definitely worked for me. I told my mom and sisters about it too amd it worked for them. It comes back if you sweat a lot and need to take care of your skin while it's gone. Keep the area dry etc. Not every doctor gives it to me, even if the patient knows what works for them. So I really hope they give it to you.

I was just recently diagnose with Tinea Versicolor when i was pregnant. I had these big brown spots since the age of 16, my dr gave me cortisone cream to put on it but when i got pregnant w/baby girl, i was awful, i had it everywhere! When i take a shower it turns bright red and it flakes off in shower. On the bright side, it does not scratch and i cant give it to someone. I've seen a dermatologist and she only took a look and said nothing could be done. That i had to live with it. I can do the selsun treatment if i wanted to. So i went to my dr and he said that i can have meds but its dangerous to give on a daily basis. My daughter is 2 and she has allergies to creams like back pain cream, johnson products, baby oil, baby powder, olay moisturizing cream so i cant put medicated cream on me. Im happy i dont have it on my face, its only on my neck, breast, belly, armpit and on the bikini line so i can hide it but it sucks in summer! Thank god i live where we only have 3-4months of summer loll The only wierd thing is that i have very dry skin, i taught only oily skin could have that🤔

And this made me suddenly not interested in working out. And really hate my body. I hardly ever went out with my shirt off during the summer. It's a chronic condition for me. I've had effective treatment with a pill that is very liver damaging (can't drink or take other meds with it). I've had nominal success in a preventative way with Nizoral 2% shampoo (ketaconizole). I was also suggested to smear it on...and then exercise for thirty minutes for deep penetration. First time I talked to a medical professional--a nurse--about this, she laughed in my face. That was at my university at Student Health. She said her husband has it and I just better get over it. Horrible bedside manner.

this is a tad late, but you can take lysine supplements as a preventative and to make them go away faster. some people take lysine everyday or every other day because they get cold sores frequently. i take it when i feel the “itching.” if i take it when i feel the itching, i rarely get an actual cold sore. if i forget to take it beforehand and get one, i take lysine three times a day, and the cold sore goes away super fast. talk to your doctor to see how much lysine you should or could take.

Tinea versicolor can be treated and reversed very quickly with the volcanic and organic sulfur combination in Skinlyte soap. Skinlyte has a soap that is loaded not only with collagen but also keratin peptides. It is called Hair & Whole Body Bar. It is fast absorbed because it has an enhanced binding enhancement technology which produces a water molecule that hydrates skin and hair. It repairs, rebuilds and strengthens hair and skin. I got it at Amazon and I am impressed with new benefits I discover every time I use it. I noticed many improvements in my hair, skin and nails. What I like best about it is that it's all natural and without harmful chemicals such as synthetic dyes, fragrance, SLS or preservatives. While it heals, it is repairing the damaged skin and prevents inflamation. As a bonus, my hair and nails reap the benefits also.

I went through this too. I took the oral and added the topical stuff every day for like three months and it went away. It took a few months to fade.

You probably have not heard of this remedy but it has helped me out the most. Take a fiber called Psyllium Husk, on a daily basis. It will significantly reduce your TV. Works better than any topical cream / solution I have applied. I made a video on my channel if you want to know more. Hope all works out for you!

I was recently diagnosed with Pityriasis Rosea and Pityriasis (Tinea) Versicolor. I was prescribed Ketoconazole shampoo 2% as well as Ammonium Lactate 12%. I just wanted your thoughts about this and would it be helpful or harmful to my skin. Thank you so much.

I suffer from Tinea versicolor. I'm Jamaican and it's very popular. However, we've been calling it liver spots. My first exposure was Summer 2007, I was 10 years old. It left me discolored for a long time but the fungus stop growing from ages 17-30. Then, I went on vacation in April 2017, got sunburned for the first time and the tinea flared up around October 2017. It was horrible. I went to the dermatologist and was prescribed the 2% cream. It went away, then flared up again a month later. I used the same cream again, it went away and stayed away through the summer 2018. However it flared up again around October 2018. This time the cream and the oral antifungal didn't help. The tinea worsened. I also noticed that when my skin was wet from the pool or the beach the tinea looked like black mold. It was horrible... It was on my breasts, all over my torso and right around my butt crack which made me very self conscious and totally against having sex. About two months ago I decided to put my middle finger up to the dermatologist and hopefully find something that will at the very least treat the tinea and make my skin look less unattractive. That's when I found a tea tree body wash on Amazon. It's from a company called Purely Northwest and the product is called Tea tree oil foot and body wash. It hasn't cured my Tinea Versicolor. I notice that if I go a long time without using it, the tinea starts to flare up again. However, I use it twice daily and I'm very happy with the progress. Like we've all noticed tinea has a mind of it's own and at the very least I'd like to feel good about myself when I look in the mirror. I'm treating this thing like a chronic illness. Let me know if this helps anyone. I had to share.

Yes. Since I was a child I know of liver spots and ring worms. The creams we use in Jamaica 🇯🇲 have always worked , coupled with remedies used for cleansing our blood. These suckers go and come. I’ve thought it was the water, but now I’m no longer in JA and they reappeared have me thinking it’s more than just the water I use on my skin.

Thank you for your video Dr.Dray. I recently found this on my face, and wondered if the shampoo trick works for that as well? The antifungal creams only seem to work for a bit but the warm weather in Texas seems to make it flare just as I thought it was dissappearing.

I tried sulfur soap and it helped me a lot, it stinks and dries your skin a lil bit, but it helps :) and it's cheap! I also sometimes rub that soap on places with VT and leave it, it does its job overnight like some kinda "mask", not to mention that it helped also with acne on my back :) Stinky miracle :D

I know this was done a year ago but hopefully Dr. Dray will see this. I've been using the dandruff shampoo as body wash as recommended by my Dr. after a round of prescription cream but I haven't been using it like a "mask" . I will start doing that to see if it will be more effective. My question is about a shampoo bar called Noble Formula 2% Pyrithione Zinc Argan Oil. It's vegan and lower waste. Do you think that would work as well as the Vanicream Z bar? Thank you in advance. I know you hear this everyday but you have changed my skincare life! And you're a lovely person, too :-)

I have this horribly on my back right now. I use Nizoral shampoo. Is soothes it for sure. But I also have eczema. So the pink scaling inflammation is... ugh. Not knowing, I was using a coco butter oil gel and unknowingly caused this fire storm. Your videos helped me to understand products that I should always stay away from. Even when I’m not having a flare. Thank you so much Am I going to have to have a prescription, or will this eventually get better with Dailey treatment? Thanks in advance

What if the patient is using fluconazole 200mg pills 2 tablets by mouth once weekly for a month, 2% ketoconazole cream twice daily and ketoconazole bodywash applied for 5 mins then washed off nightly, and still is stuggling? The rash comes and goes despite all those mdications. It has even appeared in new spots despite using the wash and cream on those spots prior to them appearing. The orginal rash appeared on torso beneath breast so patient was just using the cream and wash on entire torso.

A very good and informative video! I have had Tinea Versicolor for over 5 years and it has just gotten worse... it really doesn't bother me at all, besides that I have heard that you are not suppose to get a tattoo on the affekted areas. So my question is if that is true? Is it a bad idé to get a tattoo on skin with Tinea Versicolor? What can happen? (I have the White spots, and my entire back is basically White)
