Pixel Watch vs Fossil Gen 6 Smartwatch

I'm gonna pass on the Pixel Watch this year unless it goes on discount but the loss of Google Assistant definitely gives it the edge. It was always clunky on the Fossil watches but I loved setting timers on the fly especially for stuff like parking meters. Hopefully Fossil can get it working again soon

I love the Gen 6, just don't upgrade to WearOS3 yet! I think the second gen Google Pixel Watch may be worth looking at, but time will tell!

I'm debating between these two at the minute The pixel watch seems nice just a bit small and I'm quite clumsy and I know I would break it wouldn't hardly no protection around that screen

I am surprised I haven't broken the screen yet on my pixel watch. Although I've been wearing it daily. There are some rubber bumpers available for it at this time that I've not yet tried. That said, it definitely won't be as durable as one of the metal banded screens

Still rocking my Gen 5 since launch and hasn't degraded over time, still in top shape minus a few wear and tear. Battery just as good as well, never a problem to last an entire day, just need to be charged overnight.

How has the heart rate compared to both do they measure the same and are both continuous like the pixel every second? Thinking of picking up the gen 6...

Unfortunately the new WearOS3 has caused a lot of issues with the Fossil Gen 6 now. It seems to be largely app dependent on how often it checks for heart rate, but it is certainly less than once every second

Thanks for the review. What can you say about the vibration quality on this watch? I have Fossil Gen 5 and I don't like the vibration, it's too loud and ringing. I read that the vibration is better on Pixel Watch, similar to Taptic Engine in Apple Watch.

The pixel watch has a more refined haptics algorithm, it feels more subtle. Both of these watches have the ability to adjust the strength of the haptics engine

It totally depends what you're looking for, they've dropped the price so much that it is an okay device if you're not heavily reliant on Google services. I would be more apt to recommend something like the pixel watch or new Samsung watch

This was not the wellness edition, it was the original Gen 6 (also before the Wear OS3 update) At this point, the fossil is an aging watch in a rapidly evolving market. Unless the price is right, I'd probably explore other options.

The gen 6 is even better priced.. I should be getting mine today or tomorrow (full metal band) and looking forward to it.. it cost me only 167€! The features are good but the design as well got me right away + got at least extra 5 bands of all colours and materials to match the occasion

The recent price drop has really made it one appealing product. The OS3 upgrade really damaged it's reputation, but Fossil has made it clear they're working to fix it. Definitely a good time to buy!

@@4KMotoring Agreed... I weighed the pros and cons and I do not need a strictly exercise/sports smartwatch.. I want it rather as an accessory and to use Google pay.. There are many nice smart watches with NFC out there but I hate using multiple apps for the same function so I have Google Wallet/pay so not in favour of getting one that allows payments but with a different payment app... And the Assistant issues is not an issue for me either.. I´m confident these glitches will be fixed. So officially my first smart watch.. so will see if I made the correct choice Thanks for the review

My Fossil Gen 6 watch doesnt work as it should after the Wear OS 3 update, the training apps doesnt get the gps lock so its now useless for training when gps is wanted.

Still no Google Assistant, but everything else seems to be working pretty well on mine. Still a bit glitchy compared to the Pixel Watch

Does the fossil gen 6 have auto brightness? And how good is the vibration on the gen 6? I've heard people say the pixel watch has an excellent vibration motor

the gen 6 does have auto brightness and idk about the pixel but i like the vibration motor on my gen 6

It definitely does have auto brightness, even though it does not seem to function in the flashlight mode anymore. The vibration motor of the fossil is strong, sometimes too strong, and has a different algorithm/ pattern than the pixel watch, the pixel watch in comparison seems to have a more subtle motor and a much better algorithm for its activation

It's hard to say which truly appears brighter. The fossil seems to use a bolder font which makes it seem brighter (in the watch faces I use), but I have not had any difficulty viewing either in direct sunlight

I can't get through my day with a full battery on my Gen 6. It dies pretty much around 5 pm-ish. Any recommendations?

If you're running android wearOS 2.0, check out your daily battery settings and turn off things you don't need (WiFi, GPS), if you're running wearOS 3.0, give it a couple days to adapt to your habits

I get 36H on the Pixel watch. Turn off AOD, set screen timeout to 10 seconds and turn off tilt to wake.

That's fantastic. I can easily get a full 24hrs on one charge with all features active, and that works for me.

@@4KMotoring I keep AOD off mostly because I've seen people post about burn in issues. It takes around an hour to clear up. Still, if it's doing that, I don't fully trust the longevity of the amold panel.

I must have a junk gen 6 overheating, won't update because it overheats, screen is not smooth navigation is slow, it's pretty lame

In my experience, fossil quality control has sometimes not been as expected, so it would not be surprising to have a bad unit. Overheating is typically a result of an app or process misbehaving, so might be worth resetting and starting new.

I don't hate the battery life, the charging speed is fast enough that it's absolutely liveable. Hopefully the Pixel Watch 2 follows through with promises of significantly adding battery life
