As a NTW player, I really love this game with its uniforms, reliable combat mechanics, and awesome maps but there is one HUGE flaw, for me personally, that doesn't make it no.1; Chassuers a cheval/mounted jager spam. Too many times I've played games online (ranked/unranked) and the opposing team's cavalry force is entirely made up of mounted infantry. Again, this is just my opinion but otherwise I LOVE this game. I just Really wish Creative Assembly and Sega remaster this game because it deserves it

Two things I've come to realise after this video: A[ollo, you're very one dimensional in strategy, and that is, whatever you see works, is best. Nothing wrong with that, the Romans had a similar mindset, but every age of military battle is different. Russia did very well to keep to historic as well as advantageous positions.

ah, the hills... in Fall of Samurai a known tactic is to position melee troops just below a crest and attack gunmen as they're about to reach it. Even if it's basic spearmen, they can punch above their weight.

This only validates my reading of Lidell Hart and Archer Jones. With equal forces, the defender always wins. The Russian player advanced into a prepared French left. Then at the middle, the British tried to probe uphill on the French right. Anytime the French did any big plays (with their Cav), its always a counterattack to an overextended attack by the enemy. Reading their books made me slightly disenchanted with total war multiplayer, in that pitched battles of equal footing were extremely rare, as the aggressors would rather avoid contact unless if they have a clear advantage. An outmatched defender would rather retreat. Any last stands made is a sacrifice to support another operational move somewhere else. Real generalship is boring. And I meant that in a good way. Nevertheless seeing forces of equal footing try to eek out whatever advantage via use of tactics can still be fun.
