Another Fun Fact! That area with the Cave Troll fight scene is called the Chamber of Mazarbul (Mazarbul means "Records" in Dwarvish), later the sight of Balin's Tomb. This is where Balin (the old wise advisor of Thorin's company from the Hobbit) erected his throne to rule as Lord of Moria when it had become a Dwarven colony, and where he was laid to rest after being assassinated by an Orc Scout. This chamber, throne room and tomb site became the final holdout of his folk once Orc hordes retook Moria. The Book of Mazarbul was written in by Ori, another member of Thorin's company and the scribe of Balin's Folk, and categorized the initial success and eventual failure of the colony.

Fun Fact Pixie-poo! The Beasts of Gorgoroth are based on the "Great Beasts" that hauled war machines or artillery engines such as the Wolf-headed battering ram named Grond during the Siege of Minas Tirith. In adaptations of LOTR, they are depicted as foul rhinoceros-like creatures from the Plateau of Gorgoroth, bred by Sauron as draft animals or beast of burden. Their design is based on the extinct Brontotherium. Dwarves called them Yurgs, as their was a smaller underground species, and another name used in distant lands was Sûlokil (similar to the elephant-like Mumakil).

Those beasts of Gorgoth are the same beast that pull the ram during the siege of Minas Tirith. We don't see them in combat. Also in third age DAC, they wreck lives. It took me 400 men as Gondor to bring 1 unit down. Lost half of my 3 units of fountain guard and half of my 4 units of Ithlian archers.

Pretty masterful offensive and defensive plays by all players. The opening zerg rush definitely caught the defenders on the walls and first layer gates off guard especially the great beast charge the went and fucked up the Reclaimers lines 😂 but the catapult layout for the defenders definitely paid that rush back in full. Helped that there were second layer defenses that allowed the dwarves to breathe and reform to propey receive them. Have to say though, the map feels like hell to attack or defend for the unfamiliar. Attackers dragging artillery running into pathing issues, side passages connecting multiple chambers forcing players to stretch their lines and attention across multiple, unconnected fronts, each as vital as the other. Makes you wish for a single unconnected line. Defender catapults definitelt babied to hell with how many elevations there are. Really makes zerg rushing the only viable strat for attackers unless catapults are banned for instance. The Balin Tomb ambush really came out of nowhere, the attackers definitely did not notice three high tier units just camping behind their lines lmao.

Also at least in campaign they tend to be a liability because they demoralize units they hit and a lot of the time they hit their own troops, which already have shoddy morale. Edit: I think the model is based on the mangonel from M2TW Kingdoms?

Apollo, I haven’t tried it with the reforged mod yet since I haven’t downloaded it but perhaps you can give the Freecam for Medieval II mod from moddb a try. It makes the medieval 2 camera so much better by God’s leave. Also, out of curiosity, how do you get consistent battle replays? My medieval 2 battle replays don’t play out exactly how the battle really went and I’ve been dealing with this issue for years without knowing any solution to this problem. As always, this medieval 2 reforged video seems to be truly cherished by myself and many others. Thank you.

Pixelated Apollo, you definitevely should try Pharaoh TW Dynasties battles with the new mechanic lethality set off. The pace of battles became slow and pleasant without this feature.
