@@AaronRusch Adam, I'm experiencing a lot of noise with my Matrise. To start, I'm powering the Matrise and all other pedals with a Truetone CS 12. I've used the same scheme here, except A-IN (Guitar) A-OUT (Amp). For B and C, I have an B - Earthquaker Devices "Organizer - Organ Emulator" C - Echo Fix EF-P2 Spring Reverb There's a hiss with all knobs to the left, but the hiss increases in volume as I turn up INPUT B, for example. Strange things. There's a tone knob on the organizer. The more tone (turning the knob clockwise), the less the noise. 1. Could this be the cumulative effect of single coils? (With the exception of the noise that's present at all times) 2. I made some loud shrieking noises when I first used the Matrise and set one of the pedals up backward. Might I have damage the Matrise? 3. Have you experienced noise from, say, the amp and power supply plugged into the same A/C unit? Any power supply noise related issues. I bought this Matrise used. The owner changed the knobs. A1 crackles when turned. I'm starting to think I was sold a flawed piece of gear. I don't know how you could possibly answer all my questions, but if anything stands out to you, it would mean so much to me hear from you. Thank you so much, Marshall Newman
@AaronRusch10 ай бұрын
@@Mgalacticable Hi Marshall! I'm so sorry you are having this issue. Normally, I look at the power supply as the first potential culprit, but the Matrise only draws 50mA, so I doubt that is the issue (although I would try plugging it into another line on your Truetone just to make sure). I would also triple-check to make sure you aren't being tormented by a bad cable somewhere in your chain (I've had this happen to me many times). I have 2 Matrise units and neither introduces any noise into my signal chain. I don't think that is single-coil noise, I don't think the backwards pedal would cause any damage either... I've done that countless times, and outside of making some nasty feedback, I don't think it will harm your Matrise. As far as the outlet-I could be wrong about this, as I'm barely knowledgable about anything electric-but it doesn't seem like you are encountering noise issues from the power supply and amp sharing an outlet. The crackling A1 knob is a big red flag to me-I honestly think you have something wrong with the Matrise, especially since it introduces a hiss to your signal with all knobs turned down. My advice would be to reach out to Knut at Pladask Elektrisk (info@pladaskelektrisk.com) and ask him to help you troubleshoot it. He's incredibly nice and responsive. I'm sorry you are experiencing this-faulty gear is so frustrating! Best of luck in getting it fixed! :)

@@AaronRusch Thank you so much for your detailed and expansive response. I am subscribed to the channel and a follower on instagram. I will be liking and commenting on every video or post you release. The pot noise ceased when I tightened the knob on A1, at which point I noticed that fastener was loose. Worst case scenario: someone tried to mod it. Final question: Is there a serial number on the Matrisse? Perhaps inside the enclosure? I've hear Knut is actually reachable. I will contact him for all questions going forward. I'll respond here if the problem and solution have any value with respect to your content. If there is any way I can support your work through Patreon or another platform, please let me know!

@@Mgalacticable Oh wow, I hope someone didn't try to mod the pedal and then sell it! Regarding the serial numbers, I just checked all of my Pladask pedals and they all have a big white sticker on the bottom of the pedal containing a serial number. Some of the stickers are pretty big, so the serial number could easily be covered up with velcro. That is so kind of you to say, thank you very much! @@AaronRusch I really appreciate your concept of doing these "Deep Dive" demos of pedals, that are already some time on the market. That contrasts nicely with the recent phenomenon, that at a certain deadline of a new pedal a bunch of pedal-demos by the "usual suspects" pop up all at the same time. I've learned a lot from your videos, especially about the Count to 5 and Fabrikat. Great content with valuable information. I come back to these videos now and then to refresh my knowledge. I never have the new release pedals in my hands when they come out, so that sometimes makes me worry I'm covering pedals that people don't find relevant anymore. @sebastianfield31762 жыл бұрын
This is great - I have mine set up with dry in input D, and parallel loops in the other in/outs, and I’ve not been able to get loops to play into neighbouring in/outs. I guess just putting dry through input A, with loops in other in/outs is the trick, as you have it.

Hmm, that's so frustrating, I hope the routing ended up working! I just re-configured my entire board, and I had to use the cheat sheet because I did something weird with the Matrise wiring... I have had a 'matrix mixer' design hanging onto my back-brain since the mid-'80s, my last venture into Effects Loops As Signal Generators, when swapping cables was just plain 'not enough'. So, now I have Eventide's PitchFactor, TimeFactor, Space, and next month ModFactor (just a hang-over from long ago dreaming to possess some Eventide product having revolutionized DSP work for musicians) Empress Effects ZOIA and soon Poly Effects Beebo... I am gearing-up to build an 8 stereo / 16 mono Input by same Output 'Matrix Mixer', possibly with VCA and Passive (including a 'scratchy pot' option for old time sake, from my old old Buchla daze) Cross-Points. I am searching for known-good VCA DIY circuits currently. Plus, I have to dive into Buchla, Moog, and Eurorack specs to make sure it works on all three for the VCAs. Who makes reasonably-priced potentiometers these days, the smaller diameter the better since I have to cram 64 dual concentric shaft pots in a manageable area. I may break it down so that four 4x4 matrix mixer modules can work, adding a method to connect the vertical and horizontal busses together internally as a Normal, with external access deNormalizing switches in the appropriate jacks if needed, for those needing less than 8x8. cheating 16 Mono Inputs to 16 Mono Outputs may not actually work with only 128 Cross-Points depending on concentric shaft pots (dual VCA) for the Mono-only mix, since that requires 256 (16x16) Cross-Points, sooooooo This last mystery may never be solved to satisfaction.

Great video. I have the Matrise and am still wrapping my head around it. Do you find that the matrise colours or changes the tone of the pedals going through it? I’ve found that it thins and brightens them. Thanks
@AaronRusch3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, that's a great question! I tested this with a looper tonight and recorded it into Logic on multiple tracks to see if this happens on my Matrise. I didn't notice a difference. I freely acknowledge this could, in fact, be happening and I simply can't hear it because my old-guy ears are damaged from playing in live bands for many years. I'm trying to think of some other causes... perhaps a phase issue? When I have the Blooper in one of the channels, I have to invert the phase on that channel for some reason or the Blooper gets super thinned out (my other pedals don't have this issue). Also, I have a buffer at the beginning and end of my signal chain, and several buffered pedals interspersed throughout: if you have a long signal chain without buffers, this might be a possible, if unlikely culprit? I'll play around with a few more pedals in my Matrise and see if I notice this issue... and if I do, I'll reply to you here. I hope this helps, and thank you very much for watching the video :)
@Jamooshoe3 жыл бұрын
@@AaronRusch thanks for the considered reply and excellent video! I’ve subbed to your Instagram and KZbin :) By way of an update, I did some more experimenting and still feel there is a tonal change when using the Matrise (not always worse). To my ears, I have also found that it’s been pretty important to ensure that the ‘FX send’ levels from my pedals are above unity gain (or even close to maxed) and then adjust the overall volume of each channels output to taste from the respective ‘output sends’. Seems to improve the tone. Also reading the manual, I can’t tell it being an ‘active’ mixer (not passive) means it already has a buffer in built?
@AaronRusch3 жыл бұрын
@@Jamooshoe Thanks so much for the sub!!! I just rebuilt my board to fit some new pedals, and I'll try to see if I can replicate that issue. I don't think the pedal has a built-in buffer, at least from what I can interpret from the manual, but I'm barely able to understand some of the technical elements, so I could be wrong. And thank you for posting the tips regarding the gain level, I'm going to play around with that as well!

@@AaronRusch thanks. I would love to for you to report back with your findings! Also - I reached out to pladaskelekrisk and they were very nice and said “All active mixers buffer you signal. Matrise is active. Had it been passive, you would be plagued with crosstalk between the channels”.

So it's just a parallel mixer? Yo the EHX Parallel Mixer is much easier to understand and has more functionality. Plus it's switchable lol. Am I missing something?
@AaronRusch3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. So the main added functionality you get with the Matrise is the ability to feed one of the channels into another. On the TPM, you can only send Channel 1 to the main out, but you cannot send it to Channel 2. The Matrise lets you to do this. So, for example, if you have a looper running in one of the Matrise channels, you can send that loop not only to the main out, but to an effect in one of the other channels. Also, you can send a channel back into itself and create some chaos. I can see this functionality being unnecessary for some setups, but I have to say, the more I use this functionality, the more I like it. Thanks for checking out the video!

Hey Aaron, not sure if you will even get this question but i am interested in the Matrise but waiting until you guys release the stereo version. Im assuming the stereo version will be closely related to the mono version. In your video i cant see the routing from I/O A to your audio source. I dont have an amp. I use preamp pedals and loopers to my interface. Im not sure how you route properly for input and output A, do you have another tutorial or way to explain this better? I assume from output a on matrist i would run this to my looper and preamp pedal, but getting back into the matrise is where i am confused if i am using an audio interface. Thank you
@AaronRusch Жыл бұрын
Hi Joey. I wish I had more information about the stereo version, and my guess would be that it is very similar to the mono version except it will accept TRS cables for stereo signals (?). As far as routing the I/O for A (at least in my setup), you can think of A as your main input and output, much like the main input and output of any other pedal on your board. For my setup, all of the B-D knobs basically take signal from A, send it off to other effects, and then return it back A where it is then sent downstream. Does that help?
