Damn I’m not a Doom or Stoner guy at all, hell I don’t listen to metal at all anymore, but this is the reason I watch this channel. Ryan, you are so good at explaining how something works and why you do the things you do, to get the sounds you get. Thanks so much, the new place looks and sounds great.

I think these kinds of videos are super important for the people who are convinced they need very specific gear to get certain tones. You really don't, just takes a bit of creativity, sometimes a combination of pedals, and EQ haha.
@teriakamoto3 жыл бұрын
Thank You. Exactly.
@SuprachargerMusic3 жыл бұрын
TBF ripping off the EQ from a recorded album isn't really very creative at all. If it's just for overdubs, by all means, but as far as something you would use for something to make your mark, it's the antithesis of creating something. A lot of people follow gear to get the essence of what they think sounds good and put their own spin on it. This is like making "your own" guacamole recipe with a spice packet from the supermarket. If your plan is to be the next Applebees, sure. If you are trying to carve out your spot in town with a place that is known for your flavor, not so much.

Weird fun tip for everyone...Get a Bass EQ AND a Guitar EQ, put them both in your FX loop and enjoy! Oddly enough, a Bass EQ has more treble on tap than a standard Guitar EQ pedal and if you get the settings right you can use them to kill feedback. I ran a 2 EQ setup for years and years and every band I played with was baffled that my 5150II could sound like that without feedback, a noise gate or a boost in front of the amp. My tone sounded "like a CD" because I was adding Presence around 10K from the Bass EQ, 3.2K from the Guitar EQ for pick attack, 50hz from the Bass EQ for gigantic Palm Mutes and then cutting some 400 and 500hz from the Bass EQ to kill "boxy" frequencies. That's it. That's the secret. Haha. It's dead simple and it sounds killer with high-gain amps.
@tradertom484311 ай бұрын
Sick, just got a band eq and already digging it but Ill try you're method. You still using that setup?
@sergeyv49087 ай бұрын
why not using EQ with expanded band like 10 band?
@Crowbar111157 ай бұрын
@@sergeyv4908 10 bands go too low and too high in my opinion. 30Hz is way below guitar and 16kHz is way above. They also jump too many frequencies. 500 to 1K is a big leap as is going 4K to 8K to 16K. The combo of Bass and Guitar EQs covers a really usable range for Guitars especially for Metal. 3.2K is the secret weapon for pick attack, 400/500/800 is where you scoop and shape mids and 4-6K is where you can control Fizz. That level of control is lacking on a 10 Band.

Nailed it 😁 Orange just has that dirty British fizzy booty like no other 🤘 I love going between my Orange rocker 15 and my 5150 iii whenever I get "bored" of one. I messed around a long time with stereo recording the two amps and trying a bunch of variations... I have found that fundamentally my guitar pickups / tuning are the biggest "game changer" even though everyone now days are trendily telling me its the cab/speaker. I realized with the orange terror stamp I don't favor and or use power tube distortion / compression as much as I thought. I have also realized that I don't care for stereo rigs or dual tracking as the phase issues just kill the tone. I'm feeling like my 5150iii 2x12 is the best for me just because it is convenient no need for boost, eq, gates, etc......with its cab built within a cab, an attenuator, and a resonance knob, and an insane amount of gain on tap... I can dial it in almost identically to everything else I have ever played except for amps that have rectifier tubes🤓🤓🤓

FWIW I saw Sleep when the Holy Mountain came out in a pretty small club and Mr. Pike was definitely playing one Orange full Stack with a Les Paul. Don't remember the head likely OR120. I don't know that he had much more than one or two pedals -- kinda feel like he had a RAT. Just one or two tones for about 60 minutes straight. That was the best I ever heard them sound live and the whole vibe was out of this world. The last tour I thought the sound was pretty mindless, just loud and incomprehensible. I have never found a yt demo where any of those 15 watt Oranges sound very inspiring. I have never heard a really good el84 amp for heavy sounds. Thanks for your demo all the same.

Could you try to replicate Iron Maiden's "Piece of Mind" tone please? I have a bunch of reliable info on what they used at the time (1983 Interview on Guitar World). Basically Dave Murray used: Fender strat with floyd rose, Di Marzio super distortion (bridge pickup) and Di marzio Paf (neck); Cry baby, Mxr dist+ (only on solos), Mxr phase90, Boss FA1, Mxr 10 band eq (vintage blue one). The last two, not having ON/OFF switches, were ON all the time. 50w Marshall heads (probably jmp and jcm800 2204/1987) and for speakers they used EVM12L (only for outfront house) and Celestion speakers, the ones that are ont he record (my speculation is that they were G12-65). Setup is pretty simple, but as Adrian Smith said: "the room is the most important thing about recording...we kept the guitars separated and put the amps up in a big wooden room and just put mics everywhere. Another problem is also that Martin Birch was an awesome producer (R.I.P.).
