@@pistolpete5192 where do you get this information from? It's quite extraordinary to see an old lady speaking English. English is now mandatory but was Russian then. It's true that you have two foreign languages in the school but I also had German in the secondary and high school (I was learning it for 7 years) but I still can't speak German.
@RockMetalElectronicPlaylists2 жыл бұрын
@@pistolpete5192 I'm afraid but your statement is not 100% true. Of course Poland have good public education (including universities), but I can say that other languages knowledge depends on citizen's age. People born after 1970 can speak English quite well here [if younger ==> better understanding and speaking], most older people (>70) know Russian better than English. Children born after 1980 had and still have [nowadays generations] English lessons at primary school, after that in middle school - one modern language is taught additionally [ie.German, Spanish...]. It is what parents and grandparents were't taught here. What is mandatory to explain is that children born after ~2000 yr have basic English in kindergartens too, but almost nobody living now in Poland would say that every person walking on the streets or being in public places - no matter if guy or girl - has extraordinary skills in speakings and understanding 3 or more foreign languages. In conclusion - very small group of Poles know 3 or more languages at once. That is true, so as I said - we as nation [generally said] know one or two - sometimes on basic level - foreign languages, but we all are not "multi-speakers" in general.

We live with my wife Monika and two cats - recently - in Ochota (this is the name of the district where you also live), we both have been living in Warsaw since we were born. This city is specific because it was very damaged during the Second World War, it can be compared to today's Mariupol. Even the Old Town and the Royal Castle are rebuilt after the war, so you can get the impression of chaos in the architecture. When we go to another city, we sightseeing similarly to you. If you would like to walk around Warsaw together, give me a sign. We speak Polish and English. I can read words in Russian, but I do it slowly and I only understand a little. :)

So, since she is a Ukrainian citizen, she can ride all public transportation for free here in Warsaw. If you need to buy yourself a Warsaw card, it cost us 280 zl for 3 months for unlimited usage of all trams, buses, metros for Zone 1 and if you're just staying inside the city you won't need Zone 2 access. I think you can just go to one of the transportation offices located inside of the larger metro stations, like Centrum etc. I see you are using Uber/Lyft, hiring private cars, the public transportation here is outstanding. We are from the US and used to having a car to go everywhere, we don't miss owning a car, we just use the public system and it's so inexpensive. You are lucky, you're across the street from a Top Market! They are a great little shop if you can't get to Biedronka or another larger store. Overall Warsaw is the best city to live in in Poland. The biggest choice of jobs, a mixture of old and new, very interesting foodcourt concepts unseen in other cities in Poland. The biggest number of cultural events. Good public communication. A lot of green areas for relaxation including the Wisla shores (one side modern, one wild). And as you mentioned good communication 2-3h by trains to any other big cities. Only Wroclaw is a little remote. Warsaw slowly becomes the economic hub for the whole region. With Microsoft and Google building their huge data centres the importance will grow. We gave also google camp here.

Glad that you are in Warsaw! Check out Palace of Jan Sobieski in Wilanów, the Old town, Nowy Swiat (near old town), of course Down town with the highest building in the European Union (Varso Tower 309m).

Menya Musashi is one of the best I know when it comes to affordable ramen. You're living near my neighborhood, so we might meet accidentally somewhere :D If you want to visit some cool place to eat, there's really interesting place called "electrownia Powiśle" near Wisła river, on the side of town centre. Really cool place.

Smacznego! This is all just the same day? So far I like Warsaw and that mall is enormous! Maybe I have been living out here in the boonies. And it's not the boonies. It's just a suburb of a city somewhat smaller than Tampa (And sorry still not as good as Boston. I was going to say that maybe the traffic is better but that probably isn't true either.) The neighborhood you were walking through, it looked clean and the colors were pretty even if they were yellow. At least they were different.

I'm glad that you are guys in my city! There is a lot of cool things to see, like the Old Town, Łazienki Królewskie main park in the city, The Palace of Culture and Science and the city skyline. But to be fair it's pretty expensive in here. Not gonna lie Warsaw is without a doubt the most expensive city in Poland but it kinda pays off with all the great things here.

Wow... it's so different from when I was there in 1996-97. They didn't have shopping malls like that, definitely not shops where you could browse except for a few like bookstores, but otherwise had to ask for everything behind the counter. Things change so much. I remember the kiosk to get potatoes early in the morning and shopping the street markets for groceries. Lots of wonderful things there to visit though, plenty of museums. I really miss Powazki cemetery - it was very close to where I lived, and is so incredibly beautiful. Lots of famous people buried there, though I can understand if that feels a bit too dark right now.

When thinking about getting in labor aim for one of the best hospitals across Poland (in terms of obstetrics) which is hospital on Żelazna street You can probably go to labor school there and they explain in 5 sessions A LOT of topics how to prepare for a baby

Warsaw West station is under expansion now, that’s why it’s a bit confusing at the moment. Same as Gdansk which is under refurbishment. Warsaw is great - you’re gonna love it :) you can get to Krakow in about 2h on the high speed train :)

Thanks Mac, that high speed train sounds awesome.

I lived at this area a few years ago. I recognized the yellow building at the other side ;) You can find almost everything what you need at the area. I strongly recommend The Non solo pizza at the corner of Grojecka street and Bar Korona (polish home food for reasonable price- I recommend take away cause there is limited space and a bit crowdy). The best way to traveling is the tram for sure. The lines 7,9 will take you to the city center. There is a bit loud due to main street but you can get to used. Enjoy your stay :)

I am relieved you found an apartment. TKMaxx is the same parent company. The stores are TK Maxx in the UK too. I am surprised how similar the mall appears to those in the United States.
@ManWithNoName19802 жыл бұрын
In the UK, TJ Maxx is known as TK Maxx -as well as in Poland. The name was modified to avoid confusion with the British retail chain TJ Hughes selling similar merchandise.

In this shopping center there is a restaurant called north fish, they have really nice fish soup for relatively low price, they have also very nice fish sandwiches and casual deep fried fishes, you have to try this, it's "really really good" :p

Welcome to my home city! :D I'm sure you're gonna like it, especially in Spring time. By the way - there is a small IKEA store in the Blue City mall, which you've been, it can be useful information for your plans to setting up the apartment. Enjoy and good luck!

Just a tip - there is an Ikea store in Blue City mall and I believe it's the best shop for all your home appliances. Good luck! I live in Warsaw myself so if you need any help, let me know. :)
