tail using the backwards flight successfully is with the use of cover to keep from getting shot in the moments it actually takes to turn around, and get situated. Even then there are some pilots who have the skill to keep up with me and completely stop the reversal from happening. Also It was intended to be in the game and not a bug at all. If you watch the intro videos for planetside 2 it even explains how to do it :]

True. It's better to learn to fly in first person though, as you'll always be ready to line up a shot at a split second's notice without switching cameras and re-aligning yourself (since the perspective changes). It also gives you a better spatial awareness (with practice), so you can "feel" where a mountain is behind you or beside you, without looking. Some people argue it gives you a higher FoV, but personally i use my ears, i hear where an enemy is, your ears have "360 fov" lol.

0:40 he's facing north, tilting east and giving a big burn of speed EAST. 0:42 he continues rotating west then south, carrying the momentum EAST and NORTH. It's not a bug nor is it stupid. His aircraft is simply following the momentum and thrust his engines generate.

Oh sorry, so when you have a jet chasing you, you can flip back and get not their tail and shoot them. And against ground forces use it if u really have to get out of there instead of flying forward. I hope this helps

You should make a video explaining/showing how to fire two breaker rockets at the same time. I haven't seen any videos on it, nor have I heard anyone discuss it. I was going to do it, but my voice doesn't sound good on youtube :P.

It's not a bug nor is it stupid. It's physics. Real helicopters and vtols can't handle the airframe stress currently, but it's not really backwards thrust. What's happening is that you thrust in the direction you call "backwards" by tilting the engines, then you ROTATE to face the direction you are flying AWAY from, giving the IMPRESSION that you fly backwards. But you're not really flying backwards, you're coasting in the opposite direction your engines faced a second ago.

Someone who gets on your six does have an extremely huge advantage. If they know what they are doing it's next to impossible to do anything about it. You can't simply stop and then them turn backwards. It would give them a good amount of time to empty enough shots to kill you easily. If someone does manage to stop and turn around quick enough to stop you mid-air I would report them immediately, as there is some foul play happening. I'm having so much trouble with this... I have a mossy with the first cert for dog fighting. When I try to do this I end up facing the sky. I can't seem to actually keep the angle right at all, and I still am not sure what it is I'm actually trying to do with the key combination XD

I have them on 1, 4, and my mouse wheel. The trouble I have with the mouse wheel though is that I tend to over scroll it giving me the wrong weapon lol. Getting better at not doing it though.

The trick is to do the manoever real quick in 3rd person, then go back to first person

superdahoho Hah, I've been out of the air game for a LONG time. If you're on PC whenever you get in hover mode you want to STAY in hover mode by pitching down. Just keep pitching down, and using vertical thrust and you will travel backwards in circles around your target. The moment you start pitching up though you will lose hover. Toy around with that.

Alright it helped when I upped the DPI on my rat7 to 1600 and reduce my in game sensitivity to 44 XD It was at 1500 before at 80% in game.

I've been looking thousands of "backwards flying" videos with the same content but I press all the same keys and just can't get it, not even close to the movement shown in the vid.. So I have to ask, is it still possible to do right now 2015 Oct 7th?

1. Press and hold S until thrusters are pointing down 2. Wait for Gravity to start pulling on you 3. Roll left (or right) while pitching up, while you are sideways press and hold Space 4. To use thruster going up, keep holding S and Space, then press Shift 5. When you want to do an inward sideways loop, pitch down while sideways

+Granz Yes, as Heiz said it's still possible. I actually just logged into the game last night for the big charity stream Scourgeoftheserver and kudochop did for a fallen friend. Everything flying wise felt the same. There are a lot of lock ons, but being an air to air pilot in the game comes with a lot of down time. You have to kind of work the map borders and only push forward when your faction is taking a base. While you do that stay HIGH to avoid the locks, and only dive when you're confident you can clip a plane pretty safely. If you want decent profit you want to shoot for downing around 30 ESF's in an hour. If you can get the kills along with the planes that's great! Do that consistently for awhile and you'll rake in xp like a boss. edit: The days of solo camping an enemies warpgate seem gone. The flight game is much more passive now. Was able to keep up the normal 30+ ESF kills an hour though. Just gotta be careful. If flying in the air for a good ten minutes doing nothing doesn't suit you then flying might be hard to enjoy.

I find it to be gay and lead to the opposite of an exciting fight. Someone who legit gets on your six should have an advantage over you. It's something that can only be accomplished through a burden of knowledge control mechanic. Flying backward itself is a bug and was never intended to be there in the first place. It should get removed, patched out immediately in a hotfix style update.
