Thank you very much for such an informative video Michael. Perhaps just to expand briefly on your point as to why it is not always advisable to present the Critical path via checking the "Critical" box in the filters window, particularly before you understand what the filter is presenting exactly. Depending on the critical path settings which each individual adopts, the critical path presented when checking the above mentioned box can become quite subjective. I guess some might wonder what I mean by that. If you press F9 or the schedule icon, you will by now be aware that this will trigger the “Schedule” or scheduling window to launch. If you click on the options tab or button on the bottom right hand side of the “Schedule” window, a “Schedule Options” window will appear. The “Schedule Options” window allows you to effect all sorts of adjustments to your scheduling settings and configurations which ultimately influence the calculations that are prompted when you schedule your programme. Closer to the bottom of this window you will notice a sub-section with a description that reads “Define critical activities as”. This sub-section allows you to define how your critical path will be determined/calculated. The first option allows you to set the float value which will define which activities must be highlighted or presented as critical while the second option allows you to have the “Longest path” which is your “true critical path” presented as your critical path. By “true critical path” I mean the natural resultant critical path from a critical path analysis based on the CPM method. The first setting allows each user of the software to decide at which point an activity will be critical and this does not depend on the results of a critical path analysis as set out by the CPM method. The power to make that unilateral decision as to at which point each of the activities should be considered critical is the very reason why I say that the setting results in a pretty much subjective critical path. When the second option is selected i.e. Longest path in the same “Schedule Options” window, the “Critical” filter setting in the “Filters” window becomes the equivalent of the “Longest Path” filter setting. It will produce the same critical path as the “Longest Path” filter; which is the true critical path.

Hay, Good and Valuable information. Thanx. you didn't explain how to eliminate those decimals in Floats in the presence of Multiple calendar usage.
@PlanAcademy4 жыл бұрын
There is no need to remove those decimal Total Float values - they are a product of doing CPM scheduling. Just be aware of how they were there.
@rajkumars9744 жыл бұрын
@@PlanAcademy Thats right, but i need to eliminate the issue that successor activity starts on the same day of predecessor activity finish (I believe, this comes because of when 2 different Calender meets in a p6 schedule). you have any solution for that pls?
@PlanAcademy4 жыл бұрын
I think that only happens if your durations are incorrect. Set your durations to show 2 decimals places. Then adjust Durations so that there are no fractional Durations. So if the Activity's Calendar has a 10hr day, the Duration has to be a 10/20/30/40 hrs. If another Activity has a calendar with an 8hr day, adjust the Duration so it's 8/16/24/32 hrs. etc. That should fix so that Activities don't start mid-day.

hi dear. at point 8:29 in successor activity tab you use one short cut key and then you press ok.what was that shortcut key. keep on sharing good information best of luck dear
@PlanAcademy8 жыл бұрын
Hi Umer, I didn't use a shortcut key. It looks like I edited out that brief section of the video where I simply added the same columns as I did in the predecessor section.

It is good. But it will be excellent if you show how to control the five point which you raise them. I mean how to solve them. For example how to make the finish date equal to must finish on? Thanks

I just saw a TF of 113 days! this is not normal.. i think the schedule is full of constraints and this is the main cause of the weird critical path you've got
