Twenty-five minutes in: had to sit up and take notice, seeing as I had watched a documentary titled Overdosed, in which it was casually remarked that 1) the local chicken plant was just one of two employers in a certain region of West Virginia and 2) on Fridays, which is payday for the workers in said plant, there's always a long line at the local drug dealers house after the workers' shift at the chicken plant ends. In another documentary I just watched, titled They Are Trying To Kill Us, it was also casually remarked that, seeing as no sane person would no longer willingly work in more than a few CAFOs, owners of such operations are now resorting to using prison labor. Man oh man, maybe I do need to make the shift to plant-based based more on moral and ethical reasons, and less on health and economic reasons (which is currently the case for me). Very Good! I'll have to subscribe to the channel.

Thank you Dr Shireen for the very thorough and comprehensive presentation! It's time to share this talk far and wide. On another note just want to share my experience. Around early 2021 when we started our COVID-19 Vaccination programme here in Indonesia, I remember how there was a day where dozens of public transport drivers in my hometown (which was given priority back then) were unable to get vaccinated because they had either high blood pressure or high glucose level. And I was telling myself, wow after this whole pandemic we have a bigger problem to tackle: chronic diseases! :/

What about those of us who get an autoimmune reaction to all plants? I hate eating meat and dairy but it's the only thing I can digest.
@JoanKSX
@JoanKSX 2 жыл бұрын
All plants? I think you might wanna adopt the elimination method by reading Nina and Randa's book or somebody with autoimmune disorder history and eliminate all and then add one type of plant food at a time to see you actually allergic to which one, and the rest you just have to avoid the stuff completely. Anyway to share you my own experience. I think I actually got different food reaction than yours, very much just totally opposite. I got really dizzy and severe lightheadedness when I consumed highly sweeten food / drink, I got tonnes of super thick phlegm and nasal mucus and slight swollen throat and total constipation when I consume any type of dairy food, I got fairly severe constipation when I eat animal meat, regardless it's a land animal or sea animal. Well, I got butterfly stomach, slight swelling throat and throbbing headache when eating plant food like durian and overeat of the durian would causing me moderate to severe diarrhoea for the whole day LOL but everything resolve if I remember to put some table salt and drinking water in the inner side of durian skin (the white part) and rubbing the salt against the white skin part and drink the salt water. I got swollen tongue and injured-like lips when eating raw pineapple but never had any issue if the pineapple is fully cooked. I got overall skin itchiness when I tend to overeat my yam food =P I got severe lightheadedness when I tried to drink stevia drink (so I just totally avoid it at all cost since I'm prone to have hypotension, low blood pressure). I don't drink tea, coffee, coke, chocolate because of the palpitation feel they all gave me. Anyway, all the best pal =)

@@JoanKSX thank you for your input but yes all plants. I've tried every family of plant foods there is. I've been at this for 14 years so far. I hate it because the meat doesn't even have flavor anymore, it just tastes like fat and salt.

I'm vegan (as a way of life not just the food and beverage part), have been for 30+ years. Plant-based does not equal vegan. Not even just the diet part. I've seen products in stores with 'plant based ' on the packaging but a close look at the ingredients made it clear the product wasn't vegan. I don't trust 'plant based' labelling. And products with 'natural flavors' might be vegan or not. Vegan to me means no animal testing of ingredients (which eliminates the Impossible burger) and no processing with animal products in addition to no animal derived ingredients....and of course no refined sugar or honey.

Making everyone go vegan is almost impossible (I'm also plant based). The focus should be more on society (especially USA) not being so dang obese/overweight to where they consume more food & other resources. Couple that with physical activity, being at a comfortable/healthy body fat percentage, and eating a majority of calories from unprocessed nutrient dense foods you will for sure see a decrease in some of the things mentioned in the video.

the obese/over weight ppl in america consume a plant based diet. i agree. processed plant foods and sugar is the culprit. crop agriculture is the problem on the plant, not animal agriculture. these vegans keep talking the same backwards nonsense.

I am vegan since my pigs have an identity crisis and think she's a broccoli now. My cows have that crisis to, they think they are mushrooms, so technically I am an vegan now I eat pork broccoli and beef mushrooms. But i have to find a green synthetic color powder to color my pork broccoli green, where can I find that stuff because then I eat really real pork broccoli when it looks green, I tried to let the pork broccoli out of the fridge for 2 weeks, but then it smells to much to rotten pork broccoli and I want it to keep it fresh.

While a plant based diet is very healthy, it is not possible everywhere. Cold climates, mountains and arid lands rely on animals for food. While every adult animals and humans generally can't digest milk, most of the humans that live in cold and snowy winter locations mutated to be lactase-persistent. In industrialized countries, supermarkets provide fruits legumes grains and leaf foods all year round but it comes at a price of high petrol and energy consumption. While the meat industry is an absolute inhumane polluting and wasteful nonsense and must be dismantled ASAP, the plant foods industry isn't better. F 1 hybryds or GMOs, chemical pesticides and fertilizers and heavy mecanisation sterilize the soils, the arable land is washed off, the rain/water cycle is broken. And very often the crops are low quality foods. We do this at home but in developping countries too, wich is despicable. We need grazing animals in dynamic rotation pastures to put back the carbon in the soil and repair the insect and microbiological fauna in the ground. We need better crops (the ancient varieties that are banned from the codex alimentarus) and create local cycles. And basically stop the food and agrochemical industries in favor of a modern and healthy agriculture. For more on the subject; Claude Bourguignon french engeneer in soil microbiology Demeter, on biodynamic farming Kokopelli, on crops that are not chemical-dependents

I agree that some even in the West don’t have access, but that is not the case for the vast majority of first world people, and many who don’t have access tend to hunt for their food which is better than animal ag. I wouldn’t say that the plant industry is no better. It seems that just by its nature, it produces calories more efficiently than most ways of mass producing animal products ever could. Vegan diets require less land as well (since 83% of cropland is used for animal ag). I agree we should work to reform plant ag as well, but let’s be honest most of us are probably powerless to make positive changes in this area. What is within the power of most people in the first world is reducing and eliminating demand for one of the most destructive industries on the planet today. I think the main question we should ask ourselves is, what can we do right now to make a change? Most of us don’t have to wait for a new technology or a new policy on this issue. We can just stop buying certain products

Also, I’m not sure I understand why what you have described is better than rewilding. Why not promote or bring back native grazers, and return the land back to nature? Nature was doing fine until we turned the land into factory farms to sustain a large number of high-emission animals which do not promote biodiversity.

@@gorgzilla1712 Well yes individuals can do something; there is business plans for permaculture farms on one hectare plots. Very productive, a team of 4 can feed 200 people without heavy tractors. About chickens or grazers on farms, actually you dont have to exploit them for meat, eggs or milk. Just leave em alone, they will repair the soils and give you organic fertilizers and manure. Yes very much like rewildering, but you need to guide the grazers in another pasture every 4-5 days before they eat everything. Makes the grass regrow stronger. It fully renews in 30-45 days.

I find it hard to believe that a thinking person could spout such nonsense. Criminal. Not one ounce of actual science to back up these idiotic claims. I feel so sorry for the young people who are being led to their body's health destruction.
