@@bonnieschmidt5882 Forcing their existence to feed, pretend to care for before slaughter, house, supplement, feed medicines, antibiotics, hormones etc... at least 10 times more non-human animals than there are human animals. That alone makes the point clear. Then there's opportunity cost which from plant food alone and adjusting for nutritional profiles like protein, estimates are up to 20 fold more people could be fed from opportunity costs in existing plant ag production. This means if everyone switched to plant based diet, we could feed up to 20 times more people and reduce land usage at the same time. And that could be as much as 75-80% reduced land usage. . In case that wasn't clear enough, a healthy ecosystem has more plants than animals, it just has to. It's the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Plants, autotrophs are producers of energy. 90% of energy is lost every step up the food chain. There are naturally more plants than animals eating plants (herbivores) and more animals eating plants than animals eating animals for there to be a healthy ecosystem. We are made of and consumed by bacteria. I do not want to bring necrotic putrefying flesh decaying bacteria into my lifespace, much less inside of me. A plant-based diet tends to foster healthier gut bacteria and is generally less risky in terms of harmful bacteria or metabolites. Then of course antibiotic resistant bacteria, deadly pathogens and zoonotic diseases that create the majority of our infectious diseases, etc... In other words, by eating animals you're essentially killing yourself even down to encouraging the growth of the very bacteria that will consume you. It's no wonder consuming animals, eating within the animal kingdom, creates "autoimmune diseases" and almost all chronic diseases that stem from chronic inflammation. Again, that energy that is lost up to a trophic level, comes in the form of antioxidants that offset the inflammatory process of metabolizing. This is why plants have on average 64 times MORE antioxidants. For this and many other reasons plants are anti-inflammatory. In short, eating animals is the most significant cause of all our diseases; chronic diseases which are the leading causes of mortality replacing infectious diseases which used to be the leading causes of mortality. The problem is, we can't treat these in the same way. Tackling infectious diseases essentially gave us new lifespans. In these new lifespans we have new diseases, chronic diseases that are usually inflammation based. Both infectious/communicable and chronic/noncommunicable diseases have a behavioral origin, both most often due to our relationship with nonhuman animals. But these new chronic diseases in our new life spans are behavioral. This means they require lifestyle changes. This means having intention, being mindful of what we're doing instead of mindlessly consuming. We are perpetuating a behavior we were weaned into without our understanding. Infectious diseases are easier to deal with, just take a shot. Noncommunicable diseases like cardiometabolic diseases, to the extent of which they are in our control, are profoundly more challenging for most people. Change in general is enough to make it challenging. People just don't like to change, even if it's for their own good. Doctors don't deal with lifestyle, they only work with symptom management. Eating animals is not sustainable, even when they greenwash it's easy to discern how unstainable it is. Like salmon suppliers claim that they can raise millions of salmon sustainably every year. This wouldn't even feed the population for one day. Obviously, that's not sustainable. What they're doing is saying they're not toxic, so it's sustainable for the environment. But, they're normalizing something that isn't sustainable. This also bioaccumulates environmental toxins on top of it. So herbicides and pesticides are one thing, now you have to worry about dioxins, pcbs, mercury, etc... biomagnification in the fatty flesh of fish. And it's completely not necessary. Just eat nuts, seeds, greens, legumes, grains, etc... and you'll get everything you need from plants. Except B-12 which is synthesized by bacteria, again, something we can get more naturally, safely, and sustainably, taking a supplement directly. And when I say sustainably, I mean a significant or most often the entire population would be able to do this. Of course there's rural, third world, etc... that we can't extrapolate to at this time. What matters is what each and everyone one of us does, starting with ourselves. We do the best we can, we inevitably demonstrate this, anecdotes are useless unless they're corroborated by science (like mine are ;) ), and ultimately moving in the best direction. That's why I love veganism. What's healthiest for me is best in every way, it's most sustainable/abundant, most compassionate, cleanest, healthspan and lifespan promoting in every way. That's why we have the most impressive array of evidence from all the leading health organizations, independently researched dietary guidelines around the globe are more and more moving plant forward, even the world health organization, academy of nutrition and dietetics, kaiser permanente, national academy of sciences, etc... We even have the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and other many long standing organizations such as the National Health Association, TrueNorth, Hippocrates Wellness, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, NutritionFacts, etc... The evidence is inescapable if you're actually looking for significant evidence, not just a confirmation bias. It's easy with so many different doctors, scientists, longtime, lifelong, multigen, athletes, etc... that are vegans themself today. Why is this significant? Because this is overwhelmingly corroborated by the totality of science. This is why more and more people are raising their children this way. And that's why in 2025 there needs to be a much larger change!

I listened to this whole debate. I do not think this was a debate about carnivore versus plant based. I think this was a debate between two people with different conceptions of reality. Where the carnivore advocate did not believe in absolute truth, that leaves no way to establish hard fact, which means there’s no way to conduct scientific inquiry. I don’t see how he can call himself a scientist if he does not believe there’s any such thing as absolute truth. If truth is as relative as what you believe, or I believe, then science has no standing in life.
@Chaotist5 күн бұрын
Precisely! That's the biggest issue these days, relativism and especially moral relativism. It's the sickness of mind which prevents any further growth or even a healthy functioning in daily life.
@jgreen93614 күн бұрын
You have basically nailed the argument. I would question the term absolute truth though. Science works on probability. When all the evidence points at one conclusion we have overwhelming weight of evidence, not absolute truth. We don’t know the significance of what we don’t know. What this Carnivore guy does is take anecdotes from Carnivore advocates and elevates them to the level of truth. He is like the guy at the roulette table who sees people winning 50% of the time on red or black and decides to bet on zero. He may get lucky personally, but telling everyone to bet on zero is going to disappoint a heck of a lot of people eventually.
@NevilleWran9452 күн бұрын
No such thing as absolute truth. In science, ideas can never be completely proved or completely disproved. Instead, science accepts or rejects ideas based on supporting and refuting evidence, and may revise those conclusions if warranted by new evidence or perspectives.
@jgreen93612 күн бұрын
@ True, complete proof can be close but not 100%, that is how science works, but it’s often misused either deliberately or out of ignorance by those arguing for a view that opposes overwhelming scientific evidence. A couple of anecdotes by canoeists who escaped from an alligator attack without a scratch doesn’t make an alligator as safe as a sheep. When the common sense of people who live day to day close to alligators is backed up by strong historical statistical evidence, the idea that alligators are safe is not an opposing argument, it is just a few statistical outliers from the total data set of alligator human interactions.

@@lotismade First, nobody is claiming we are meant to eat grass like cows. Veganism is about consuming a wide variety of plant-based foods suitable for human digestion and nutrition, not grazing on grass. This comparison is misleading and irrelevant. Second, pointing out that humans are not herbivores doesn’t justify eating animals. Just because humans are anatomically omnivorous does not mean we need to consume animal products. Modern science shows that humans can thrive on a completely plant-based diet at all stages of life. Being capable of eating animals is not a moral justification for doing so. Third, claiming the real issue is 'sustainable and ethical sourcing' ignores the inherent problems with animal agriculture. It is neither sustainable nor ethical to exploit and kill sentient beings unnecessarily, regardless of how it is done. The most sustainable and ethical choice is to avoid animal products altogether. Your attempt to frame this as a compromise between coffee and cows completely misses the point. Veganism challenges the exploitation of animals altogether, not just the 'unsustainable' or 'unethical' parts of it. If we can live without harming animals, we should. That’s the bottom line.

You can tell almost immediately if someone eats a lot of meat, it's a long-term effect, but it's not "old age", it's purely that you're treating your body poorly for decades and overtime it starts to reveal itself. 22 sets of twins tried both vegan and meat diets. Researchers at Stanford University studied the twins' cardiovascular health. After eight weeks following their respective diets, the twin siblings who ate a vegan diet had lost more weight, reduced their LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, and experienced lower insulin levels, according to the study's findings. "The findings from this trial suggest that a healthy plant-based diet offers a significant protective cardiometabolic advantage compared with a healthy omnivorous diet," the study's authors wrote. The study, published Nov. 30 in the journal JAMA Network Open.

Please get accurate or she dilutes the credibility of her valid conclusions. India has tripled dairy consumption since the "White Revolution" of the early70's specifically designed to increase it's contribution to the economy resulting in ever greater numbers of a fat, diabetic, heart diseased population. Hindus have always consumed milk because of, among other things, it's perceived connection with Krishna. India is growing fatter and sicker every year because it's successful economic growth feeds the increase in "western" food : animal food and ultraprocessed food. A literal disaster.

I am a vegan and I struggle with strong allergies. It would be easier for me to consume meat, not gonna lie, no IgE symptoms whatsoever. I am most of the time on a very constrictive diet if I do not want to have gut issues, bad dermatitis, breathing issues or general MCAS or allergy flares. As I think veganism is the best solution for the environment and ethically superior and also the healthiest diet out there (and my blood counts are exceptionally good better than my peers), the point that allergies can restrict your veganism is for some of us with high IgEs against pollen etc. a LEGIT POINT. But I know I am an outlier and a sicker person with fucked up genetics compared to the average citizen, and I agree that for them this diet should be EASY, the biggest issue is the hedonism and cultural & collective pressure/bias, let's be honest meaty dishes taste good. I cannot personally eat high amounts of soy, lentils, peas or pea protein, fruits, chocolate, nuts or seeds without serious issues and negative general symptoms (itching, allergic asthma etc. you name it). I am also sensitive to glutein and do not tolerate milk protein (especially casein) well. I am constantly on a heavy dose of anthistamines, C-vitamin, quercetine, asthma medication and consume mostly rise, oat, corn, cooked carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, frozen berries, beans, table sugar, salt, (2g of cocoa per day) and avoid heavy amounts of spices. I am an athlete and eat for performance and health but it is a very restrictive and ascetic diet athat not many of the common folks could handle. I have been used to it dictated by necessity and I also am a person willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. But my life would be easier if I consumet meat, I use heavy amounts of rice protein to fill my high protein needs that is usually well-tolerated. I also eat minimally fats and as many carbs as possible to support my sports and muscle building endeavors. So the point that some of the carnitards or omnivores are making about allergies are true for a High-IgE person. This is an anecdote and I am aware that I am an outlier, but this is a reality I have to live with on a daily basis.

His theory, and I’m not sure I agree with it completely, is that because pig is the most genetically similar to humans, there’s something in the pork protein that helps repair arterial damage. What he cites is that in America we die of heart disease and the Japanese tend to die of strokes, but in Okinawa they have fewer strokes. This is part of the reason they live longer. The doctor theorizes that it’s because they eat more pork than any other prefecture of Japan, and pork protein serves almost as caulking.” Dan Buettner

Food for thought (😂): Ital is pronounced eyetal. Many if not most of them eat dairy. Some also eat fish. (Their dea is fresh, natural food.) Most Hindus and Sikhs eat dairy. Many if not most Sikhs eat meat. (The vegetarian thing isn't important to them as it is in Hinduism. Fun fact though, they're not supposed to eat ritually/religiously killed meat.) So these are groups which go veggie (not usually vegan) way back, especially the Hindus. But there are also actual vegan groups which we can use in our discussions with meat eaters: Jains are a type of hindu people who are what would call vegan. There are (I think) like tens of millions of them. There is a serious buddhist, pure vegetarian (aka vegan) tradition in some parts of China. Also smaller groups in Vietnam and Korea. Ethiopian Christians ('Coptic')? who are observant have a ton if 'fasting' days when they don't eat meat and I think some don't eat much dairy (tbh I don't remember about their dairy rules.). I think they have a large portion of their years composed of these special days, so, interestingly, the majority of the country is mainly vegan for a real chonk of the year. I'm sending love and clarity for these discussions with non-vegans. Thanks for the work you all do!

If there’s no essential amount of carbs that we need to eat (versus protein and fat) then it doesn’t make sense that fiber is essential, not if you’re not eating carbs. I personally eat fruits and non-starchy vegetables (probably way more than most people, and I think Dr, Kiltz is a bit woo-woo for me, but please be willing to expand your own thinking. For example, consider how humans have evolved over millions to hundreds of thousands of years. Yes, as some of the larger animals became extinct and humans around the world learned how to grow grains to support our diets in terms of getting enough calories, consider how humans once they started eating grains developed smaller brains and stature, developed more cavities and diseases. Consider that all Indigenous groups have depended on animal fat. Before scientists discovered how to provide the necessary supplements, a healthy vegan diet wasn’t even possible. Talk about recent trends! Consider the recent discovery of the essential fatty acid C-15 (which most vegans are deficient in as are probably people eating a SAD diet). Consider how seed oils are produced. These are examples of how you all are ignoring evidence as well.
@georgewilson7808Күн бұрын
90% of B12 supplements produced in the world are fed to livestock. Meat has B12 because animals are given supplements to eat and then those supplements enter the human diet when meat is eaten. Meat eaters like to pretend they don't need supplements, but they shovel them down the throats of the animals they eat. B12 is made by bacteria, plants and animals do not make B12. B12 is found in plants like seaweed (5 grams of nori per day is all an adult needs), algae, nutritional yeast, shiitake mushrooms, and a few others. B12 is often fortified in breakfast cereals. Adults only need 2.4 micrograms per day of B12 to meet the RDA.
