This is such excellent advice, 6 years ago I bought the toe spreaders as you suggested. They really make a tremendous difference. I'm having awful pain again so am trying to remember everything I did back then. I also had it two years before that. You really helped so much. Last night I wore the toe spreaders to bed. When I woke this morning, the pain was 75% improved. Thank you so much!

Hey Will. I just want to say thank you for your toe spreading video. I have seen your other calf & hamstring massage, and foot scraping vids. Excellent as well! I suffered with plantar fasciitis with one foot in previous years, healed for four years now. Recently, I came across your vids after having new heel pain in my other foot now. Seems to be a cross between tendinitis and bursitis. This toe spreading is something I never knew about. Although, used some toe shoes in previous years with the PF. That combined with stretching, hot water soaking, icing, and a soft night foot splint slowly restored my foot. I'll try your techniques too. Thanks for sharing your struggles and helpful info.

This was great information very understandably presented. Wish I had it 20 years ago when I first developed PF. I've tried a few of the gel toe spreaders, but they all hurt. I had been ignoring the sock toe spreaders thinking they would do nothing, but now I'll give them a try!

Just wanted to let you know that I cured my plantar fascitis with your trigger point massage method. All my doctor could offer me was another cortisone shot and surgery, but I kept using your trigger point massage and it worked. Now I'm developing a hammer toe, and here you are with the toe spacers and toe exercises. I wish somebody could get rid of my Morton's Neuroma. It keeps coming back no matter what I do.

Great info, thanks. I've just spent a painful amount of money on wide toe box shoes... but it will be totally worth it if it reduces the problems I'm starting to notice from having crooked toes.
@JohnMoseley6 жыл бұрын
I recently bought some Softstar Primal Runamoc shoes, which have an incredibly wide toe box (about 4.5 inches) and a wonderfully thin sole (2mm). They look a bit crazy - like flippers really - but it's so worth it. I have a wide foot and they're the first shoes I've ever had that haven't pinched my little toes. The feeling of pinky toe freedom is amazing. BUT my little toes have been sufficiently pushed in that, in order to walk easily and pleasurably, I've found I also need a toe spreader just for the little toes. Unlike you, I seem to be able to handle, and to need, quite a wide division right away, maybe because I've been wearing barefoot shoes with a fairly wide toe box for a few years. I can already spread my toes as the video recommends. It's so nuts that most shoes damage the feet. How the hell did we ever end up with this? Isn't it kind of a public health issue?

@@Tatusiek_1 Yes, and I think there are also some logical fallacies at work: everyone else is doing it so it must be OK (argumentum ad populum) and the shoe designers must know what their doing (the argument to authority).
@JohnMoseley3 жыл бұрын
@@parnianx It would be interesting to chart the history. Seems high heels came over from the Ottoman Empire and were originally the preserve of men. Women copied the style, and then a residue of the heel stayed for men. The narrowness of most shoes seems to me the hardest thing to explain. Lately I've noticed in Holbein paintings such as The Ambassadors or portraits of Henry VIII that the subjects seem to be wearing what would now be considered barefoot shoes: flat and flexible, with a flipper-like toe box probably wider than anything we can buy today. It's purely a matter of fashion and conditioning to think this looks weird. At the time, it was clearly the height of fashion, as well as good sense.
@esoekidjo3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnMoseley there is a KZbin video that goes into the history of narrow toes shoes. It was a practical choice for horseriders as they can slip in and out easily of the stirrup without the possibility of getting stuck. It became a part of fashion over the years and we're stuck with it ever since.

I had PF somewhere in my 30’s, met a physical therapist who showed me how to stretch it away after six months. In my 40’s I realized there was something else going on with left foot cramping after 20 minutes speed skating training with tight skates. Between 40’s-50’s I went to a orthopedic doctor and found out I have Morton’s Neuromas in my left foot. Now at age 57 I finally discovered toe spreaders and it’s been only a month so far. Still need more time. Also wearing Altra box toe shoes 👍👍👍.

Recently I noticed my left calf and ankle started swelling up slightly when I was inactive wearing socks in my slippers at home. I didn’t realise my socks was narrow even though they say they are the correct size. I’m U.K. 9.5 size and 44.5 EU size so the socks I bought were between 9-11 UK size. I was thinking of changing my shoes from ASICS running shoes which I believe are not wide toe box to LEMS primal 2’s which have a wider toe box but I’m worried my heel won’t be raised high enough to protect my heal from calf or Achilles injuries when I run, but I’m concerned if I have a higher heal support it will place more pressure on my toes and my left big toe which has a bunion developing there and that is worrying me because I’m hoping the bone growth won’t keep getting worst, needing an operation to correct. I think I need to see a podiatrist to check my feet while taking onboard your advice… Oh by the way what toe socks do you recommend when I’m walking outside with my shoes on to keep my feet warm. It’s summer here in the U.K. and right now I’m not wearing socks anymore but I’m not sure which toe socks to buy to wear with shoes?

I talked to you a week ago. So just to be sure, would I wear only the socks at night for 2-3 months, then move onto the blue toe spreader in the video for an hour a day plus the socks, for another 2-3 months, then onto the white toe spreader along with the other two? or just one at a time?
@freeheelpainhelp9 жыл бұрын
+Shirley Stanley Yes. But it is really just an estimate. Those times allow for a lot of safety. Overall you should go by feel. And I would buy multiple toe spreaders and see what works for your feet. Each foot is very different and you will find that some toe spreaders are much better for your feet specifically. The biggest progression that requires some work is to progress to the white correct toes spreader while walking. All the other toe spreaders can be worn at any time really, but wearing a toe spreading device while walking can cause some problems if you try it too soon. I hope this answers your question. Let me know :)

I had some toe socks. They may be good for toe spreading, but they are somewhat difficult to put on, because you need to pull each toe of the sock over each toe. In my case, they actually hurt, squeezing on the inside joint if each toe. Most likely they were just too small, though the rest of the sock was fine. I watched several of this guy’s videos and he gives vert good advice, based on my own personal experiences.
