I've been growing leeks, green onions, onions, garlic and book choy on my kitchen window from scraps for a long time. I start them in water and transfer them to small terracotta pots. I usually get 2 or 3 growths out of the same plant. When the plant grows I cut most of it and keep the lower part intact in the pot where it will grow again and again. Eventually it doesn't grow anymore. Buy once and eat multiple times, it's awesome.

Thank you so much for the kind words. He really is a gem and we love him SO much!! As to our happy positive attitude, we all tend to be optimists and I really rely on the strong faith that my mom passed on to me. She would always tell me - no matter what..."God is in His Heaven and all is right with the world. Let your heart now be troubled. This too shall pass." Even during difficult times - as we are going through now - I, along with my husband and son, always lean on those words. Sending much love and good will your way! Love, Mary

The patience and respect you’re sweet son and hubby have for you here, is just a delight to behold. And how lovely reminiscing on the past memories with your boy.... the time moves so quickly with our little ones...as a mama of five daughters, I just have to say, I would be Delighted for any of them to bring home a friend, as sweet, and respectful to his mother and to them, as your son. (I say only friend, as my eldest just became a teen, and I’m not fully ready to face what comes next with my precious girls. Lol) What a fine young man you’ve raised. I’ve learned so much in your videos. Thank you for the clear, patient, joyful motherly teaching. Many of us weren’t taught that way And missed a lot of vital knowledge, needed to be any kind of self sufficient, in these trying times. May God continue to bless you and your lovely family!!

Mary, it is so good to see your son Ben helping you with your garden. He is so great to help you! I did have a tip because you had mentioned deer. Living in Wisconsin, I can't grow veggies all year like you, but in summer when the deer and rabbits want my goodies, I use Vicks Vapor rub (generic) on the underside of fence beams, and also on strips of fabric tied to stakes or fences. A good thick smear of that on fence beams, posts, or fabric on stakes will keep them away for a good month.

Mary, if you can grow mountain mint (Pycnanthemum virginianum), it will attract bees, particularly honeybees, like nothing you've ever seen before! It does spread and grow, but it does well in super hot conditions (we're in North Carolina - it's 95 degrees with 98% humidity right now), and it is a native North American native planting. I have to work around the honeybees in my garden where the mountain mint is growing, because they are crawling over each other to get to it! It's so wonderful to see you and your son having fun in the garden. I grew up on a working farm and as I became an adult, my parents would still help me with my little backyard gardens. Such a blessing!
