I agree with you on most of these. Especially with the alocasias and gloriosum. Those plants are striking because of the velvety dark leaves and contrasting veins, and variegation would actually detract from that. I'm actually mostly over variegation. I like how some of them look, but the white is prone to brown spots and they're often harder to take care of. And then you have to worry about some of them reverting. There are some that I still prefer the variegated form of, but I can usually skip it. Especially if it's super expensive.
@ari5053 жыл бұрын
I agree with the gloriosum also the micans. Variagations just don't look goon on velvet leaves if you ask me 😅

another after work unwind with Tate! ...i agree with you for most of them. i think some variegated plants look sick...definitely the polly, peru, and micans. Watermelon peperomia just seems unnecessary. I do like the ficus lyrata. They remind me of variegated obtusifolia which I also love. I definitely wouldnt try to keep one though. The Birkin I do consider variegated since its a mutation of the rojo congo and i love love love mine. Thanks for another great video!

I love your videos, getting so much adhd vibes and i love it (don't want to impose or anything just coming from someone who thinks they have adhd). Also the monstera adanosi variegated prices omg! They are also much higher in the US compared to my country.
@lifepaholic7163 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, not all variegated plants are pretty and it comes with a hefty price tag too. I don't think I will spend $25K on a plant, I think that's so ridiculous because it can die and your money is gone easily 🙄 but I like the Birkin that have the half leaf reverted though 😂 I bought my Birkin for being reverted but I can see it going back to being a normal Birkin with white and green leaves.

It just goes down to preference i guess. I feel like this about spider plants, they just annoy me and I don't know why. Like there is so much hype about them on KZbin. Some plants are over hyped in general, just think it's probably better to buy a plant you like. Not a fleeting like but you know you willing to invest time in its care, and like how it grows and what it turns into. Shouldn't be the most hyped up expensive plant. Plants are amazing, but people take it over board. Selling plants for that much.

100% agree with ALL of these. I love plants with pronounced venation (ie. Frydek) and distinct textures (ie: Peru) and I think the variegation just takes away from that and makes it look almost sickly...? I would also add variegated Adansonii because it just looks super sickly to me and is overhyped.
