Hi Blaine. Great video. What's the reason for not using the speed skim on the top coat? Sorry if you've already mentioned it.

It's too flexible. You need something rigid otherwise it can create waves in your render.

Hi m8 great job I've used the plastic beads for window bands on my own house as to using timber in the past to get the angles etc the beads are great bit of prep beforehand that makes such a difference I miss doing the rough casting its more plasterwork these days for me keep up the good work bud 👍

Great vid Blaine. I was always warned not to use vinyl/plastic beads with S&C 😥 only S.Steel, although plastic ones are a much nicer profile and cleaner. What do you use to stick them? Cheers
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Some Plasterers are against the plastic beads but I can't figure out why?? They'll never rust, can handle the elements and are easier to use. I don't get it!! To be honest I just pin them in - I occasionally use Gripfill but I just use masonry pins.
@ljones396

@@PlasteringForBeginners I think its because S&C doesnt flex unlike polymer based renders, silicone renders. Sand and cement doesnt stick to the bead, and polyvinyl/plastic beads expand and contract with heat etc, but yeah it is up for debate and I for one much prefer the profile/finished edge on plastic over metal.

Hi Blaine, loving these rending vids. Ive seemed to have fallen into the habit of only doing skimming jobs, havent done rendering since college 10yrs ago! I really fancy it tho, love hard graft. When you say you gave the wall a coat of SBR, is that a watered down SBR or you putting that on neat? keep up the good work mate
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you mate, I really appreciate that! It's tough at first but I love rendering...when the weather is kind ha! I'll dilute it by 50% if it's new brickwork but it's brickwork that's been hacked off then I'd go neat. It just helps the reduce the suction.

It's usually because the scratch coat is too wet. The water gets trapped between the 2 coats. It eventually dries out but it's a nightmare when it happens! I'm sure it will be fine my friend 👍
