_"There's no such thing as small roles. There are only small actors. If you only have one line, OWN THAT LINE."_ _My drama class always says this!_ _Fun anecdote, I played as a boy named Edmond in a One Act called "Bad Auditions". He was the last audition and had a total of, I think, six lines bundled into a lot of body movement because he had come for a modern dance audition, not the Romeo and Juliet play. My second to last line was, "(look at casting director) If I say monologue and do a modern dance piece, will you be mad?" I took the line and I mixed it in with the way I had built my character to be; suave voice, dramatic movements, and slightly poetic. So I nudged my line at the last rehearsal. I said in a light jazzy accent, "(look at casting director) If I 'say' monologue... and do a modern dance piece.... Will you be mad (glance over at casting assistant) Will he be mad? (look back at casting director) Will you be mad?" Everyone in the room cracked up laughing at that single line and it was an amazing feeling to be able to do that. To make that line my own and know that people enjoyed it. I actually got an award for that line at our banquet two weeks later. It was nice._ _Own your lines! Don't make your line into a paragraph, but make your line and your character something that fills you with the satisfaction of knowing that you did your job! You entertained! Even if you play as a bush, you will be the best freaking bush that audience has ever seen!_

Just saw Hamilton for the first time this week in Chicago (the cast sang "Go Cubs Go" as the curtain call). I'm in my sixties, and I also saw a Chorus Line as a young newlywed in the seventies. It is heartwarming to me how, as different as these two shows are, they recognize how they each shattered conventions in their own ways, but can still honor and cherish the musical traditions that came before them (remember that the pivotal piece the gypsies were trying out for was a spot in a chorus line backing up an old fashioned Merman-style show). The stars of A Chorus Line put as much energy and glitz into their closing number, "One", as the young stars of Hamilton put sweetness and tenderness into their rendition of "What I Did for Love". I wish all professions could bring the same innovation and energy into their work product, while recognizing and honoring the traditions of those who shaped the craft before them.

In the early 80's my parents took me to see the national touring company of "A Chorus Line". They bought me the album and I listened to it on repeat, learning every word. In 2016 my husband and I bought the cast recording of "Hamilton", and it's become one of our daughter's favorites. She listens to it over and over. She's autistic and non-verbal, and we haven't been able to see the show live, but we've played it on Disney plus for her many times, and she loves it. Theater just does that. ❤️

Hamilton is a piece of art. One day, we will tell our children about this musical. This amazing thing will have a piece in our hearts for as long as we live. As the generations go on, we’ll tell their story.

When I was in college I was obsessed with A Chorus Line, listening to the soundtrack every single day. Then 15 years later I did the same with Hamilton.

I love that they did this, especially when Lin announced Priscilla Lopez. You can hear the pride in his voice of knowing her from when they were in "In the Heights" together.

This is the most moving performance I've seen...Hamilton Cast singing a tribute to "A Chorus Line." "A Chorus Line" debuted on Broadway when I was 17...and inspired me and changed my life forever.

+Scott Smaistrla congrats; i've seen it twice once @ the public theater and then on Broadway. You guys will be in for an experience of a lifetime. I recommend listening to the cast album (free on spotify) prior to get the full outline of the book.

Can we just take a chance to appreciate the angelic voices of the ensemble as they performed their solos? Breathtaking.

Not only is this beautiful because of the singing, but it also shows those who are usually forgotten in musicals: The chorus. They do as much as the leading actors but they don't get as much credit as they deserve.

“A Chorus Line” was the first show I ever saw on Broadway. It was the opening week at the Shubert Theatre and sold out. I knew nothing about it but a little I was told by a friend I was traveling with. On a whim I went to the box office to see about a ticket. I was told that it was sold out but if I came back at two I might get a standing room ticket. Thankfully I lined up at about 11 and was about 4th or 5th in line. I got a standing room ticket for $5. I fell in love with the show and returned 2 more time that week standing in the rear of the Shubert for $5 each time. Now 50 years and hundreds of Broadway shows later “A Chorus Line” remains my all time favorite show..

Oh gosh! This was magical! I saw "A Chorus Line" in San Francisco when it toured back in the day. I bought the sheet music and learned every word. I had an album, or maybe it was a cassette, or both. I wanted to be an actress. I wanted to move to New York. I gave up the former, but not the latter. So this made me cry. New York and Broadway are even more magical than this California girl had imagined. What a lovely tribute by the cast of "Hamilton"; a beautiful blend of generations and art.
