My name is Manj and I came to the US from India long time ago. I have been listening to your podcast since its beginning. This is one of my all time favorite podcast episodes. And Traci when you said , I wish I had learned this lesson when I was younger.. It really struck me that I should give that nugget of golden wisdom from John’s teaching to my 16yr daughter. So I had her listen to it, after his lesson she asked me if she was a player or a pretender and started to process her behavior in all of her activities. The seed has been planted and I told her to check in with herself every now and then to make sure she didn’t drift away into pretender land for too long. Grateful for your podcast and the unpacking of the lessons 🙏

This podcast is an eye opener to every individuals who pursue success base on their personal motifs.It all boils down on how you categorize yourself in building it whether as a player or a pretender. There’s a big difference between the two as mention in the video but the mindblowing revelation for me in this podcasr as a reflection to myself is how you walk the talk on executing your mission it by personal agenda always or you do what you do not only for yourself but for the betterment of everyone else that will also benefit on the mission you want to achieve.

This episode is fascinating to listen to and contains a wealth of information. I've discovered that players have a servant's heart and mind, but pretenders are self-centered. This mindset will manifest itself in how you react and respond when you are treated as a servant. Players are aware of their purpose, whereas pretenders are aware of their location. It is more vital to complete a mission than to take a stand on selfishness. Sir Mark and Ma'am Tracy make a lot of comments or offer their perspectives regarding players vs. pretenders, which makes me understand that there are a lot of things we need to acknowledge in the real world in order to develop a servant mindset and achieve our objectives. It is more vital to grow and share what you have learnt with other people than it is to win. A lot of ideas and lessons can be shared with other people as you mature. Sir Mark, and ma'am Tracy, thank you for presenting such critical information.

This podcast it is interesting and has learned about the difference between Players vs. Pretenders. Players have a servant mentality, while pretenders have a self-centered mentality. Players act in the best interests of others and the organization, while pretenders just care about themselves. A pretender is only interested in outcomes that are beneficial to him or her. A leader is a position that we require to manage the people, situations, and items effectively and ethically. So, this is a great lesson and it is helpful for all of us also I`m so grateful for this video. Thank you, Sir Mark and ma`am Tracy.

Thank you for your vulnerability to share the great stories and help us all see what two tremendous, growth focused leaders have experienced and learned. Thank you Ms. Tracy and Mr. Mark for sharing your own experiences with us after breaking down what John taught us, I agree that Player vs Pretender are really different. Because I became a student leader in our University before and I agree that Player has a servant mindset we didn't think about ourselves but we think what people around us what was a help that we going to give to make them satisfied. While pretender has a selfish mindset wherein yo only think what is the position that you going to get for your own sake, unlike player has mission mindset wherein you think how to finish the mission not only for yourself but the people around you. Because before you get a position you need to do your mission first. As a growing individual sharing is more important to improve ourselves even more.

Mark and Traci, I love how you bring your experiences as young leaders. I just recommended this episode to my 20 year old nephew who has a big vision. Please keep dropping golden nuggets with emerging leaders in mind. Love you both.

It can be more difficult to notice differences in ourselves than it is in others. As a result, today we begin a series in which John Maxwell explains the distinction between players and pretenders, as well as why the world needs more leaders who will lead truly and add value to their people.

This is a very interesting take on how people are distinguished when working. It is definitely true that there are players and pretenders in for example a room or an office, what is more, surprising is that people will always hire pretenders. Even if we don't use the term players and pretenders we can compare this to a Leader and Boss, obviously, a Leader is a person who works within the team like what the speaker said the Player serves or has a servant's mindset, and for the boss who is like a Pretender has a selfish mindset or someone who only thinks of his/her own gain. I deeply appreciate that they quoted Albert Einstein, "Only a life lived for others is a life that is lived worthwhile," many may not understand this but it really points out how people can achieve a life of serenity because when a person only thinks of themselves there is only short-lived happiness, there is constant chasing of materials things to try to be content but if people have that Player mindset there wouldn't be any chasing, constant worry, or even fear of running out of time. The big question for this is how can we be a player, the podcast gave a brief explanation on how to distinguish if you are a Player and that is by the way you react if you are treated like a servant. I for one have been on that receiving end and for me, there is no problem because I am ready to serve and I am ready to help but a pretender's reaction it would be disgust. Another point is how players are mission conscious and pretenders are position conscious, I think we all the picture especially when we encounter this thing at work, who are those who work for the goal and who are those who work for their own benefit. To cut things short, this 40-minute podcast should really be an eyeopener for everyone, it might be a little bit hurtful to some but it should really push them to change if they are willing to it and as for me who in the future would be working with players and pretender, I most definitely would be a player because service is in my heart and I do hope people would really give it a try.

It is more important to finish a mission than to have a position on being selfish. Sir Mark and Ma’am Tracy give a lot of comments or their opinions about the players vs. pretenders, which helps me more realize that there are a lot of lessons we should acknowledge in the reality for us to come up with the servant mindset to achieve our goals. Growing and sharing things you have learned and can be shared with other people is more important than winning. When you’re growing, a lot of things and lessons can be shared with other people. Thank you, Sir Mark, and ma’am Tracy, for sharing important information like this.

This podcast is very informative and entertaining to watch, and at the same time I learned the difference between Players Vs. Pretenders, in the word itself we have a hint or idea about it. Players is servant mentalilty they are selfless regardless of your feelings towards them or what it may cost you, because it only aims to serve other people they build strong relationships to others. While the Pretender is a self-centered they tend to ignore the needs of others and only do what's best for them. We have to make ourselves to be a better player in any aspects of our lives so we can achieve success.

This podcast is interesting to watch at the same time it will give you more information as they entertain you. Thank you Sir Mark and Ma'am Traci, as you provide and share your personal influential. I believe that Player has a servant attitude; we don't focus about ourselves, but rather about the people around us and what kind of assistance we can do to make them happy. While a pretender has a selfish perspective in which they just consider what position they would obtain for their personal benefit, a player has a mission mindset in which they consider how to complete the objective not only for themselves but also for those around them. Because you must complete your goal before applying for an employment. Sharing is more necessary as a developing individual in order to enhance ourselves even more.

Hello, I have listening this podcast since 2019 and sometimes I listen some episodes more than once because I don't want to lose anything. A lot of things to think about, specially Tracy's comment about challeging us to go to the next level and look for the bonus resource to find more ways to learn about the lessons. I am reflecting about that points where a I'm a pretender and also the others where I'm sure I am a player. Thank's for these what you are doing. I really believe this podcast adds value to me and make me want to multiply value to others. By the way the example of John Maxwell giving the towel it's really inspiring because it shows that he really lives what he teaches. Greetings from Mexico City

In this video i have learned that players have a servant’s mindset while pretenders have a selfish mindset. Having a servant's mindset does not always mean being a slave it means you are willing to do any task that is given to you for the common goal of the company for me it is the most effective mindset since i am also taking up a course that requires us to give more service to customers. on the other hand having pretender's mindset wont take you far enough to accomplish your common goals and at some time it may endanger your business or company.

If you've ever led a group of people, you've probably encountered folks like Norbert Sudhaus, who would rather play the role than put in the effort required to become a champion. These are pretenders, and while they may appear to be players at times, a skilled observer can tell them apart. It's critical for a leader to recognize the pretenders within a company before they derail the team's momentum and sabotage relationships.

The term has an implication or concept about it. As a previous student leader at our university, I believe that a player's mindset should be one of service. We didn't think about ourselves instead, we thought about how our employment affected the people around us and what we could do to make them happy with our work. This mindset will show up in how we react to people treating us like servants and how we respond. Players are aware of their goal, whilst pretenders are aware of their status. Because we must first accomplish our mission and, at the same time, truly enjoy what we are doing before we can obtain a job.
