I really appreciate how honest you are about your strengths and weaknesses. I think that lack of ego on your part is why your channel is so well liked. Love to see it!

19:01 honestly my best tip on waiting for the counter is to already be thinking in patterns. Like speeding up on your backhand to their backhand and then looking for a forehand counter. The simple decision of looking for a counter to put away the ball and thinking about your speed up as setting up your counter will keep you more mentally engaged on the counter. This is just what works for me personally

9:29 is that a foot fault if both feet were in the air while making contact? you cleaned the line when landing as well.
@mrpapijoe2 ай бұрын
I've been told that regardless of if u were behind the kitchen when making contact, so long as u land inside the kitchen before the ball is returned, it is considered a foot fault Tho I'm not sure how correct that statement is
@brianchandler15192 ай бұрын
Yes, foot fault because he didn't reestablish both feet outside the kitchen before hitting the ball. He stepped on the line when jumping for the erne.

3:29 i know this is like 2 months late but I do the same thing and i finally figured out why I do it on the forehand slice dink out wide. Its because when we are hitting that shot we are both swinging our arm to hit the balls and moving back across to get back into position at the same time which makes the weight transfer complicated and makes us overhit the ball. We also cheat by hitting it with our legs because the ball is so far to our sides that we cant get around the ball enough with a shoulder swing only so we instead pull our bodies away from the ball pulling the paddle through the ball. The pros get away with this all the time because their touch is good enough that they can effectively hit the ball with their legs and still keep it in but at the 5.0 level we arent good enough to get away with it. The trick to cleaning it up to to take another shuffle so that its not so far out to the side and then hitting it without moving your feet and then moving after you hit the shot rather than in one continuous motion. Its less efficient but far more consistent

4:14 I need a lot of work on this shot as well. If you figure something out, be sure to let us all know! I'm more comfortable hitting a back hand slice drop than a forehand slice drop. Couple things I'm trying to work on: - Better footwork (yours looks pretty good to me btw but mine needs work) - Dropping middle, if they hit a very aggressive shot (instead of trying to go back cross court) Other than that, I think I just need to drill the shot against a wall some until I'm comfortable with the slice motion.
@kabob212 ай бұрын
I only slice drop my forehand going inside-out or straight on. Going crosscourt it's actually easier and more effective to brush up on the back of the ball and roll a dink or drop.
@boezou2 ай бұрын
10:23 Oh man, I think this was also a foot fault :P -- pause it at 10:32 and look at the right foot planting right before the jump -- it looks like the toes clip the line. Amazing play though, even if it didn't quite work out that time!
@brandonvanreyn92022 ай бұрын
Love the content ! It would be cool if you can list the paddles everyone uses if you can just curious what people are playing with.
@kabob212 ай бұрын
Chris, you gotta topspin roll those out wide forehand dinks especially if they're at or past the kitchen line. It's too easy to do like you said and pop them up because you have to push more for a slice to work.

Thoughts on j2k after using it at this tournament ?
@PickleballStudio2 ай бұрын
It's great! Probably what I would call my "main" right now, but I use that term loosely. Hard to have a true main these days with all the paddles being reviewed. But I do find I play well with it in competition.
@JoseSantiago-ll1ck2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the response! I just got one and played with it this past Saturday for the first time . I’m going from a six zero black diamond and it was a bit of an adjustment for sure . Feel of the paddles are very similar stiffness wise which is what I like , but the j2k does require a bit more effort which makes sense since it’s known for having great control. Excited to see how it goes the more I use it .

I think if Chris could lock his wrist and lift the ball not slap at it, his 3rd shots and dinks would improve so much. John Cincola's video on hinges is so helpful.
@tannerwallace5542 ай бұрын
Chris you seem to like your backhand more so why not start at the kitchen line with your backhand ready. Not so in the middle. Personally for me I feel like being back hand ready allows less stretch to the backhand. Just a tip also in the forehand cross court reset you seem to hit flat maybe try to allow a cut forehand coming down on the ball to allow it to stay low. Also seems to pop up when you don’t move the feet at the kitchen.

Refs call them correctly in most pro games. But yea that's why I don't like ernes in non officiated games. No one really sees the foot faults and would probably not call it on themselves.
