Most guitarists just wanna show-off what riffs they can play and how fast they can play it, but this is something totally different. This is a masterpiece, I can listen to this on repeat all day long. You can hear the creativity, the hard work, the talent, the thousands of hours he put in to get this good. And another thing that other guitarists lack is the ability to put emotion into their pieces, but Mike did it absolutely perfectly, you hear emotion from beginning to end. I will listen to this for as long as I live, I will never forget something this amazing

@@Ragnacide Yeah, but other people don't play a song or anything, they just play a riff from a song that lasts for a few seconds...and it may sound cool sometimes but it's not something you'd go back to. This is something else though, you can listen to it many times and still like it. And the emotion in it is like it's telling a story, but a story that the listener writes for themselves.

I've played guitar for 40+ years, and I stink at it. The more I learn about the guitar, the more I realize how much I don't know. Mike Dawes & Tommy Emmanuel drive home that point. They're in a dimension of musical providence that most every other guitarist alive today can only dream of. And I believe they've just scratched the surface of the infinite creative possibilities of the guitar.

I've been around music most of my life. I've played12 different instruments in total at one time or another. I had two uncles that had either a masters degree or doctorates in music. That being said. This has to be one of the most beautiful and relaxing musical performances I have ever heard. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I can literally sense the connection this man has with his guitar. I believe if it were any other guitar on the face of this earth he was playing, you wouldn't be witnessing any of this. Who is to say where another man's love should be? There is only one true connection of passion in this life, I think. I believe this one is his.

What u have illustrated to me in a more refined manner than my life's experience so far understands with the sheer range a master of the guitar can perform on a single instrument - there are sounds that differ and originate from differing components of the device - and so each section of it can be performed on its own, and that makes distinctive sounds. Your natural orientation to this can be refined, not unlike a conductor, to put together a team of guitar genius that can play each section in a symphony of guitar magic like u display.

It doesn't border on it, it IS magic! And flowers are magic too, and if I were you, I would plant them in a pot and play my guitar to them :) Always remember, music is communication, not competition. I've been playing and singing for more than half a century and I'm absolutely stunned at what people like Mike can do with a guitar. It's not just technically incredible, it's mesmerisingly beautiful as well! And yet, I'm totally happy with what I can bring to this world. Go to my channel if you want to see and hear me.

That really touched me. Your performance was beautiful and smooth and percussive and harmonical and ...... peaceful and soothing. You remind me of the late Michael Hedges, and there is no greater person to which I could compare you. You move in between the bends and arpeggiate in a manner which creates its own space that is pure and wonderful. I would go well out of my way and spend high dollars to see you perform in concert. I remember seeing Stanley Jordan 30 years ago, and he had a guitar on a stand where he could just walk up to it, and he started playing the bass and the walkup guitar, and I had to shake my head sadly, because I knew that I could never aspire to that level of excellence. I feel the same when I watch you play.

There's guitar playing and then there's guitar playing. An awful lot of mesmerizing skill and talent here. You usually know you're in for a performance when you see five fingernails on one hand each carefully shaped like guitar picks and five blunt fingers on the other hand. This artist takes it that much further with the percussion added. I loved it.

I was just scanning the comments to see if there were any Michael Hedges references LOL- I got to meet Hedges briefly back in the early 90's, I've never seen anyone play like he did before he hit the scene but have seen many videos of people playing similar to his style since. It makes me wonder if he was the innovator. Good to see another Hedges fan on here. And kudos to Mr Dawes for an excellent performance!

Although Michael repeatedly cited the influences of Leo Kottke and Pierre Bensusan, nothing they did ever came close. In my opinion, he was sui generis. I'm not much of a believer in such things, but he was one of two people I've ever met that actually glowed.

One of the better Michael Hedges disciples. Gorgeous textural soundscapes like Hedges, but without the melodicism and organic pulse of Hedges' music. Just my opinion. Still great. I really don't mean to be critical. I love Mike Dawes's playing. Just that anyone who appreciates Dawes should also check out Michael Hedges, now long gone (RIP) but really originated this style of broadened sound capabilities and sound textures and percussive capabilities, with all the harmonics and hammering, etc. Plus, he occasionally sings with a great voice. His originality was just one of the most brilliant and masterful, with his guitar being a truly transparent medium to his musical ear. Here's a small sampling for those unfamiliar... kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5Ksf2RplqmVecU, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH-WZWZvoZl7iJI, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqbPiIOMl52napY, kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5W5iouplNWlr9k.
