This is a masterpiece, I can listen to this on repeat all day long. You can hear the creativity, the hard work, the talent, the thousands of hours he put in to get this good. And another thing that other guitarists lack is the ability to put emotion into their pieces, but Mike did it absolutely perfectly, you hear emotion from beginning to end. I've played guitar for 40+ years, and I stink at it. The more I learn about the guitar, the more I realize how much I don't know. Mike Dawes & Tommy Emmanuel drive home that point. And I believe they've just scratched the surface of the infinite creative possibilities of the guitar.

I've been around music most of my life. I've played12 different instruments in total at one time or another. I had two uncles that had either a masters degree or doctorates in music. That being said. What u have illustrated to me in a more refined manner than my life's experience so far understands with the sheer range a master of the guitar can perform on a single instrument - there are sounds that differ and originate from differing components of the device - and so each section of it can be performed on its own, and that makes distinctive sounds. Your natural orientation to this can be refined, not unlike a conductor, to put together a team of guitar genius that can play each section in a symphony of guitar magic like u display.

Reminds me of the music Michael Hedges and Stanley Jordan were playing with advanced tapping technique. It really opens up a lot of possibilities on the guitar. Great performance!

I was just scanning the comments to see if there were any Michael Hedges references LOL- I got to meet Hedges briefly back in the early 90's, I've never seen anyone play like he did before he hit the scene but have seen many videos of people playing similar to his style since. It makes me wonder if he was the innovator. Good to see another Hedges fan on here. And kudos to Mr Dawes for an excellent performance!

Although Michael repeatedly cited the influences of Leo Kottke and Pierre Bensusan, nothing they did ever came close. In my opinion, he was sui generis. I'm not much of a believer in such things, but he was one of two people I've ever met that actually glowed.

One of the better Michael Hedges disciples. Gorgeous textural soundscapes like Hedges, but without the melodicism and organic pulse of Hedges' music. Just my opinion. Still great. I really don't mean to be critical. I love Mike Dawes's playing. Just that anyone who appreciates Dawes should also check out Michael Hedges, now long gone (RIP) but really originated this style of broadened sound capabilities and sound textures and percussive capabilities, with all the harmonics and hammering, etc. Plus, he occasionally sings with a great voice. His originality was just one of the most brilliant and masterful, with his guitar being a truly transparent medium to his musical ear. Here's a small sampling for those unfamiliar... kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5Ksf2RplqmVecU, kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH-WZWZvoZl7iJI, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqbPiIOMl52napY, kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5W5iouplNWlr9k.
