Did you know, when logged into the same account you can just swap the internal SSD and an external drive between consoles, no re-downloads necessary. Console just needs to be updated to the same firmware and be logged into the same account beforehand.

The PS3, with inflation, was more expensive and that wasn’t an upgrade “pro” option - it was just the option. $750 today would have been $6XX just a few years ago. This includes better graphics, WiFi 7, and more storage (but no disc drive). So let’s say $100 is knocked off to keep the SSD the same size, now we are around $550-580 (accounting for inflation since PS5 came out). So for $50 more than the launch PS5 you’re losing a disc drive and gaining better graphics and WiFi.

This is the problem with having stronger gpus, many (not all) devs abuse the power by saddling their games with so much graphical enhancements it knocks the FPS back down to 30fps. Really wish platforms would make 60fps compulsory. Graphics be damned/

That is actually a really good point made in the review. No new game to launch alongside. From memory i think the ps4 pro launched around the same time as horizon? if it is true that the pro has been in development for 5 years - this was one huge heck of an oversight. Games to really show what the new console can do. Spiderman/Rachet - already finished both and i would not go back to them. They could have given Returnal a glow-up, but that is not even on the patch radar? Really, really a big shame. And I say that as a fan. Oh, and ZERO mention of what it may/may not do for psvr2 games. So many missed opportunities.

The Pro is $700 and comes with 2tb plus PSSR, 16.7TFLOPS compared to the 10.2 on the base. My point remains. You are paying only $100 on top to get way better processing power and technologies. People pay way more for minimal phone upgrades every 12 months and do not bat an eye. This whole PS5 Pro overprice topic is really hypocritical.

The only problem is that right now, most games on PS5 are not rendered in 4k even at resolution mode. More like 1040p or it’s 1080p being upsampled to 4k by FSR. The graphics is usually closer to Medium preset on PC, and Low for performance mode. But base PS5 with Disc Drive costs the same as a GPU needed to achieve that performance by its self. So basically if you already have a big library on PlayStation and you not graphics enthusiast, then PS5 is the ultimate gaming platform. In fact, it’s impossible to build a PC for the same price as PS5, even with used PC component prices and have it perform the same.

The lack of games is a real problem, but this has a controller custom made for its games and honestly offers a fair bit of value if you want to game on a console. Extra storage, much better WiFi, and the graphical improvements offer a decent value proposition.
