Sooo glad to see Daretti. Fun fact: planeswalkers activating is the cost. As the ability is resolving, you choose which artifact to sacrifice and target one in the graveyard. You cannot interrupt text boxes, so cursed mirror should have sayed on the field. Cam should have targeted the salvaging station with noxious revivial in response to the -2 ability. After that its too late and the station will enter the battlefield

Wow! The chance of rolling snake eyes is 1/36, so the chance of it happening three times in a row is about 0,0021% or about one in 46.650. Even if we say that the average cEDH game only lasts 30 minutes, this happens about one time out of 971 days(!) of playtime. Even if you get to play cEDH for 4 hours a day every week it would take you roughly 16 years to encounter this pattern. Meaning that this will quite likely never happen again to Cam and Dylan in their lifetime. Game was impressive by the way, but the start had me and my math brain excited. Just to be clear: I understand that with 4 players in the pod you can have two chances of this happening (with players 1-3 or players 2-4 getting snake eyes) but it is a great Sunday afternoon and maybe someone can mix this in to be even more precise ;)

I was mostly trying to say that I would assume their playtime is probably less than 28 hours/week and they probably also use other methods to determine the starting player. I hope they keep their passion for more than 16 years :)

I will add the more precise derivation of getting 7 1s in 8 rolls. (1/6)^7*(5/6)*8=0.0000238 or 0.00238%. The math is the odds of rolling a 1 7 times, times the odds of not rolling a 1, times the number of permutations possible (in this case 8). All in all your number was pretty close to the actual one, and regardless it is super-duper rare.

It wasn't really specified, but the interaction around 7:30 should've had Force of Will target the Wheel rather than the Tibalt's Trickery, because then she could've gotten the benefit from it resolving while still countering the Wheel.

Question for the cEDH players. Wouldn’t it be better to let the Tibalt’s Trickery resolve so you get a free spell then Force of Will the wheel after you’ve what what you got? Or is exiling Wheel of Fortune the right play? I feel like the value of a free spell is better in some scenarios
@chrisbedrin3618
@chrisbedrin3618 8 ай бұрын
Honestly, while a free spell is nice you don't know what it's going to be and it may just be another counterspell or something you don't want/need right now. However, if a deck is running Wheel of Fortune there's a very high probability that they're also running Underworld Breach so I would rather exile the Wheel than roll the dice on a random freebie.

#iDidTheMath The odds for each die to be a 1 is a probability problem. Each die has a 1/6 (16.67%) chance of landing on a 1. Since there are 8 dice to be rolled, there is as follows: [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)]. Multiplied out: [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] = 1/1,679,616 (0.00006%). HOWEVER!! The odds of each player rolling snake eyes is a different probability equation, simplified above. Each player, having two dice, has the following probability: [(1/6)(1/6)]. Multiplied out: [(1/6)(1/6)] = 1/36 (2.778%). Meaning, that while the odds are extremely low for the entire table to roll snake eyes, the odds of each individual player rolling it separately are much, much more likely. In theory, because both Cam and Dylan rolled snake eyes, and then MTGNerdGirl rolled her snake eyes, VeggieWagon still had the exact same odds [1/36 (2.778%)] as everyone else to roll snake eyes. For fun, assuming that each player rolled a singular d20 instead of 2 d6s, the math would be as follows: Each die has a 1/20 (5.00%) chance of landing on a 1. Since there are 4 dice to be rolled, there is as follows: [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] [1/20]. Multiplied out: [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] = 1/160,000 (0.000625%). Simplified, if you are wanting to attempt to get the lowest possible dice roll between four players, a single d20 roll for each player would be the best way to go about this opportunity. TLDR; 2 d6: 1/6 (16.67%) chance of landing on a 1, with two dice: [(1/6)(1/6)] = 1/36 (2.778%); [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] [(1/6)(1/6)] = 1/1,679,616 (0.00006%) for the entire table to roll snake eyes. 1 d20: 1/20 (5.00%) chance of landing on a 1, with one die: 1/20 (5.00%); [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] [1/20]. Multiplied out: [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] [1/20] = 1/160,000 (0.000625%) for the entire table to roll a 1.

The “Steal Enchantment” convo got me thinking. Would “Claim the firstborn” be any good in the format, a one mana way to steal most impactful creatures in the format, even if it’s just a turn, stealing a drannith or a Tymna to draw, I feel like it might be an underexplored piece of interaction

In my limited experience with Najeela it seems like she does often have to beat up on the player in last place and often kill them first, when obviously she'd rather be going for the threat player. Is she supposed to just remove the open target from the game or is there any other line that can be taken there?
@TheRealQwade
@TheRealQwade 8 ай бұрын
Najeela wants a critical mass of warriors. Because her growth is exponential, the first few turns are the most important, so you want to keep as many as you can because 1 becomes 2, then 4, then 8, and so on. Once the player you ganged up on is dead, you're very likely to kill another or even both remaining players on the next turn (or even the same turn if you have enough mana). She also benefits greatly from player removal since it's one less person to worry about having interaction that can stop you from just running the table over.
@MrSeismitoad
@MrSeismitoad 8 ай бұрын
@@chrisbedrin3618 It is exponential though, the number of warriors you have is equal to 2^n, where n is the number of times you've attacked. Not counting for any soldiers dead/extra soldiers of course. It is exponential growth where 2 is the base of it.

blue has way too many ways to draw cards and way too many "free cast" counterspells while red has Deflecting Swat. Force of Vigor is a really good card but that has to respond to something happening and Force of Despair has a similar problem while also being in a color where "card advantage" either costs life or doesn't happen and only applies to creatures that entered that turn. And when Thassa's Oracle does the devotion check even if it's zero and you have zero cards in library the win still happens. Same difference with Slaughter Pact.

I believe this is incorrect per the creation of reflexive triggers in 2022. −2: Sacrifice an artifact. If you do, return target artifact card from your graveyard to the battlefield. The first part of the ability sacrifices an artifact. Once that is done the reflexive trigger goes on the stack and a target is declared. Grist's second ability works this way as well Grist test below for reference. −2: You may sacrifice a creature. When you do, destroy target creature or planeswalker.
@AtingsQuest

@@bensteinhauser784 An ability will fizzle if all of its targets are illegal, and none of its effects will happen in that case. Since sacrificing the artifact is part of the effect, if you make the target in the graveyard illegal, no artifact will be sacrificed.
