I love the clarity that Tim Mackie gives in this presentation. So many people incorrectly assume what Christians believe; that we are trying to live a good life so that hopefully our good outweighs our bad and God will let us go to Heaven rather than Hell.

This was a very refreshing and much needed explanation. I'm in a very dark place right now due to my wife of 7.5 years passing from pancreatic cancer on Dec 2nd, 2021. I've been feeling so lost, sad, angry, tired, questioning everything. I feel so weak without her strength. Our two 9 yo twin girls are the only thing keeping me going. I know God is with me but the pain is unbearable. It's so hard to except there was a "reason", and I keep pushing him away. I don't know what to do.

You can prove evolution is false easily. You can prove Jesus was real with outside bible sources. You can prove the earth is round. You can prove all believe in God when threatened with death. We can prove the physical realm is built with the invisible realm. Atoms and matter. So why is it hard to believe there is a God that is not visible? All praise to Allah, I became Muslim last year. We in Islam believe that Jesus is a prophet and is not worthy of worship and not the son of the Almighty. All the prophets had the main message that there is no one worthy of worship except the one who has sent them (Our Creator, his name is Allah). The bible is not the original book, which was revealed to the prophets. It has been translated and also changed, for example by worldly rulers of the past who had their own interests. Because of this there are many errors in the bible and also in the scripture which people of judaism follow nowadays. More helpful is the phrase "deceitful desires" in Ephesians 4. A desire is the believe that having or doing X will make me happy. A deceitful desire means the desire is a lie. I _think_ X is good and will make me happy, but actually X is damaging and harmful, and will only make me miserable. Once one understand that desires can be deceitful, it becomes easier to say no to them.

This is a false teaching. Why would Heaven and Earth be joined together if a new Heaven and a new Earth will take their place? Revelation 21:1 KJV - And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. This man is teaching a false gospel. I've been following Bible Project for quite awhile now and have been binging through quite a number of their videos and really adoring their attention to detail in the animations. However, at the start of the video, I could definitely feel that stubborn flesh wanting to rise up and start questioning where this was going before it even really started. I'm really glad I kept myself humble and didn't listen to it because this was a very interesting take on things that people have tried to understand for thousands of years! I'm not going to say that everything in this is 100% truth, but it's certainly something worth praying about!

After watching the whole video, he just came full circle. He has no quarrel with the heaven/hell dilemma whatsoever. In fact he acknowledges it in the end that's what will happen. He's just focusing on the plan of Salvation. One thing though: our actions do not morph the world into hell. They make it quite miserable, but it is not hell yet. Why? Because God is still here, like a timely cloud on a really hot and bright day. Hell is the total and complete eternal abscense of God. We choose to go there with our actions. Period. God is still here. Mercy is still at hand. Love can still be felt. Let's bring that forth. We have 10 commandments. Let's aim the best we can. That's all Jesus asks of us. @Kevin Belgrove Hi Kevin, first of all I agree with you that the bible has changed throughout time and the original meaning of words and scripture has been altered through translation. I also believe that a pagan influence has shaped the way things were translated, for example the insertion of the word hell. Hell has been substituted for a variety of words and phrases, eg: Sheol , Hades . Lake of fire and Gehenna. There has also been a melding together of The Almighty and His Son and the Holy spirit, a triad god. Yes we are commanded to worship in spirit and in truth and much has been distorted and religion has become labelled into denominations and offshoots of denominations. I am aware of the removal of YAHUAH from scripture and insertion of such titles as holy ghost. I am also aware that because a word has been translated into another language doesn't mean its meaning is lost or changed but also aware of the amalgamation of paganism into religious practices eg: Easter and Christmas . So I am interested in weather the name Jesus is a translation of the original or a distortion away from its true meaning. Still, I don't want to be " straining the Gnat but swallowing the camel " but now you have brought it to my attention, I am obligated to look in to it more . I am not attached to a religion or a denomination , I am a seeker of The Kingdom while navigating my way in the present world.

Often is answered, "Because he is mysterious and we do not know his ways." That's a total crock and avoiding the question asked. IF God were benevolent then he WOULDN'T let these awful things happen. But there is no benevolent, generous, loving because that's applying human traits to a human construct. The universe exists. Everything in it exists. There is a natural order to matter. None of it is dictated by a moralistic human invention to cope with our own mortality. And it sure as heck doesn't have "feelings" toward me. Religion is a natural result of a self-aware ape pondering life and death. And men have exploited that fear as a tool for control and power. That's all it is. And I love you too brother. I quit accepting the 'strength comes from Jesus' dogma. You are strong my friend. Your wife is strong and your whole family is strong. YOU have this strength that comes from inside and, yet, want to give the credit to someone else. Even if it's your belief in Jesus, it's YOUR belief. And that is where the power lies! Not in the macguffin your putting your belief in, but the fact that you have the faith in the macguffin in the first place. You did that. You had the faith. My faith is in physics, biology, anthropology, logic, epistemology, the brilliance (and faults) of the human mind and consciousness. To me, those are the real truths of the universe. My higher power (if you will) is what Immanuel Kant described as The Absolute. There may be afterlife, there may not. We cannot know for sure. I choose to believe in one, but not in the Christian sense of heaven and hell (isolation) or a ritualistic salvation. Most likely it's either a reintroducing of the energy in your body back to the total mass of everything, or some sort of metaphysical reincarnation. Again, my condolences for your grandparents health. It sucks, I know.

What you need to know is that there aren't different types of Christianity. Catholics, Orthodoxes, Mormons, Methodists, Jehovah Witnesses, etc... are not Christians. Those are separate religions but the world packed them into one basket and I think it is so that people wouldn't know the real religion to Heaven. It is impossible for all those denominations to go to the same Heaven since they each have their own beliefs. You are either a Christian or a Catholic. You can not be both. So in that creation of 'malevolence' or 'shared/directed suffering' , we have seen the results of our own failings apart from God's desire of creation. I think of the destructive power of a Black Hole for example. I just saw your video and it makes perfect since. I have lived on this planet 67 years and I have seen hell on earth. The hell caused by selfishness and lusts. I heard the gospel 44 years ago and repented and believed in the work Jesus did to save me. I wish I could say there was no hell left in me. But there was a shift after I ask Jesus to save me. So I went on Google and I've read that the name of GOD was originally written in Hebrew. Hebrew(22 letters) is a language that does not have alphabets for everyword like in English(26 letters) And so the NAME “YHWH” is written this way, and in English the name is written “YAHWEH” but it's said to be the same. So I ask shouldn't this be the same for Christ which is YHSHWH? But with all the 26 alphabets of the English, it's Vowels are spelt out ”YAHSUAH” which should we take? Infact it is even written “YESHUA”

That means the Muslims were right when they say we do not even serve Christ for not even calling his true name, and that unlike the bible, the Quran has not been altered. What you need to know is that there aren't different types of Christianity. Catholics, Orthodoxes, Mormons, Methodists, Jehovah Witnesses, etc... are not Christians. Those are separate religions but the world packed them into one basket and I think it is so that people wouldn't know the real religion to Heaven. It is impossible for all those denominations to go to the same Heaven since they each have their own beliefs. You are either a Christian or a Catholic. You can not be both. The only way to Heaven is through Christ and using His Word (the Bible). Be a CHRISTian. GOD bless you.

Without intending to be captious in the least, I must point out that it is essential to note that hell is not sin, and sin in not hell. The two are not the same, and that's quite important. This video, however, could lead some to equate sin with hell, and in doing so creates a false equivalency which does not exist in scripture. While James 3:6 indeed implies that hell (Gehanna) is the root source - that the power which drives sin is indeed demonic in nature, that's not the same as saying that sin is hell and hell is sin. Hell is not sin, but rather the punishment for it. Yes, sin defiles humanity and causes suffering on earth, and while sin could certainly be equated with evil, it cannot be equated with hell. Why is this detail so important? The reason it's so important to keep the concepts of hell and sin in their proper Biblical place, is because confusing the two can lead to a host of erroneous conclusions which could potentially be more serious - like erasing the reality of hell by unintentionally promoting the idea that there is no such thing as a literal place of eternal suffering, and accepting other false equivalencies. This is not a trivial concern, as even some of the comments below make it clear that some have already taken this video to mean that the only "hell" is here on earth. Sin is not hell, but unforgiven sin will result in hell; which is why we need Jesus. I would only caution that while we make every effort to undo society's misunderstandings about the Bible, we need to take great care in how we go about it, lest in our zeal to make the Bible more understandable, we accidentally throw out the baby with the bathwater. Very well put. There are people who simply will not believe that a good God can actually throw people into hell. Well, by His very nature, God is just, and it is because of this attribute that He demands conformity to His will. The scripture says "be holy for I am holy". Jesus, talking about the one we should fear, said that we ought to fear Him who can both kill the body and cast the soul to gehena or hell. Correcting an error is not only helpful, but necessary. Even the apostle Peter was rebuked when he was in error. What's next? I'm not to evangelize to Muslims, because they worship the same God? But they key difference is, you think it's important to point out the "error" in how different people practice their religion differently from you. Trivialities that have no actual effect on anyone. Jesus was always calling out people who didn't love their neighbors and who practiced religion without heart, without humanity. How you treat people, your love, your understanding, your compassion, that is what matters! That's what you should call out, as there are plenty of people to preach to in this regard. But scrutinizing people because they don't share your religious beliefs is not loving, no matter what reasoning you use to say it is.

I’m trying my best to repent and I just want to be spiritually bonded to god. I want to leave all my problems to god and pray for his grace and love. @@marvaff6878 Not much at all. I am defending Eastern Orthodoxy from any association with the teaching in this video. The only thing he said that was correct, is the non-Christians view of Christianity. They think that they have to earn their way to heaven through good works. But instead of teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ whose perfect work and sacrifice saves us from God's justice and judgment (due to our sins) by grace through faith, he starts talking about hell being not a place but human's actions and that we need to be building heaven on earth. He ignores verses that teach, that the Kingdom of God is not physical but in our hearts. Also that he'll is a place and that no one talks more about this in all scriptures combined than Jesus himself. He then talks about coming back to judge the world (the lake of fire) and then establishing his reign on earth. So yes the kingdom of heaven has arrived when Christ came and it is in the hearts of those who believe. But the physical kingdom won't begin until he comes back, throws hell and everyone in it in the lake of fire, destroys the old world with fire, and creates a new heaven and new earth for all of the believers to enjoy with him in his presence. That's all written in the last 3 chapters or so in the Book of Revelation. Just to be perfectly clear, the Eastern Orthodox Church does not, and from all accounts, never in its history taught what Mackie said in this presentation. I know this because I have friends and family in that church and we discuss theology all the time. One of them is even a devoted student of their theology and according to him and everythin I learned, this is not what they teach.

After a lot of depression and grovelling prayers where I felt like God was angry at me, He got through to me and told me something that changed my perspective. He told me "I don't want you to say you're sorry and keep asking for forgiveness, I want you to say 'thank You for forgiving me' and be glad that I love you." Jesus forgives us totally, loves you and likes you and enjoys being with you.
