started out terrified ended up manageable lol!!! Have you tried plopping? This was my second time and something I am learning from all of you is that this is NOT a great option for every washday. Some love it, others have ran into scalp issues with continuous use. So best that this be an ICE routine lol or at bare minimum keep track of how your hair and scalp are reacting!!! PS. How do we feel about Friday/Sunday uploads?

So I am pretty impressed by what you got with the turban thing. I have plopped overnight but used a bonnet and did get spirals but not like a regular wash. Thanks for sharing. And girl, you rock all your curls. Also I decided if I do it again I will maybe try waiting until morning for the gel.

It's not the best on short hair. Also, I only plop for about 15-30 mins. I don't sleep in my plop...as the predictability of my hair and its results is non existent. Overnight is something better left for long, one length hair. Short and/or short layers kinda get funky. Also, who has time to let it dry all the way? Even overnight... it's basically impossible. I use it after getting out of the shower, after my products, after I scrunch out a bit of excess water with a cotton t-shirt but before root clipping and air-drying/diffusing. It helps remove even more excess water and product (read:dries faster!) And gives a boost to curl formation without having to do AS much scrunching. I don't know about you, but the reason I don't finger coil to even out my wildly diverse textures is because it bothers the crap out of my hands...I hear it popping constantly and I can't stand it. So if I can also scrunch less while also ensuring my waves/curls behave more evenly...I'mma do it.

My curls are super low porosity and take so long to dry. I used to plop for less than an hour and then air dry, because that's what most curly girls with similar looking curls said they did. I had the saddest flattest curls of my life. Now I plop in a shirt for 2 hours and then plop in a satin scarf overnight (for about 8-10 hours) and I have had awesome results. It goes to show how different curly hair can be!

Everyone just be careful if you plop overnight. Having wet hair up in a tee shirt or towel for long periods of time with no ventilation can cause bacterial growth. If you have done this for a long time and it works for you but you have self diagnosed dandruff, please reconsider. I had the same issue and my "dandruff" got loads better when I stopped sleeping with wet hair. Sleeping with wet hair also messes with the elasticity of your waves/curls since your hair is more elastic when wet, it will stretch out over time and end up in something similar to hydral fatigue!!!

@@JannelleOShaughnessy Yeah, and for me it was something I didn't ever think of until I experienced it. Even when I wasn't CG I only washed once a week sometimes less, and it still ended up giving me really bad "dandruff" and frizzy hair too. Just something to keep in mind, if it works it works and I would never tell someone what to do, but it's good to know this stuff so if you start getting itchy scalp or dandruff or frizz unexpectedly you know where it could have come from.

I too have heard sleeping with plopped wet hair all the time can cause problems... but I would imagine some of that is dependent on factors like, how fast your hair dries, how breathable your plop apparatus is, your products, the amount of times you sleep, and of course how often you do it. With all that, i could see it working for some and spelling disaster for others! Hope everything worked out ok for you though & your scalp healed!

Hi Jannelle, I must admit I almost stopped watching when you took your hair down because I didn't see a point in seeing bad final results. lol. I'm glad it turned around and you posted it! I have tried overnight plopping twice now (last night being the second time) and seeing that your hair settled into something manageable was helpful! It gave me the patience to just wait a few minutes and then take inventory. I don't have great curls today but I have a nice beachy look today that I'm happy enough with. Especially as I didn't wash and just needed to do something after submerging my hair in the bath. This seems like a good way to extend my time between washes by another day, which is exactly what I was after.

Thought #1 I used go think Janelles grays are just... shine, individual hair catching the light, I only understood when she mentiined them 😂 They look beautiful! Thought #2 whether this method works or not, it's a very bad idea, you run risk of fungal apocalypse, hygral fatigue and you'll cause some mechanical damage, even with soft fabrics. #3 sleeping in the crunch is the only good overnight routine in my opinion, safe, reliable and sometimes even looks good with no refreshing!

@@hibaaziz3706 real life curly girl has a great video about it, I believe it's titled literally sleeping in the crunch BTW, sometimes it works even when the gel isn't super crunchy, it depends on the formula, hair type, how crazy of a sleeper you are etc.
@jayerscios
@jayerscios 5 жыл бұрын
@@hibaaziz3706 The crunch is the cast formed by the gel once it's completely dry. Sleeping in the crunch is not scrunching out the crunch once your hair is dry. Just pineapple your hair and go to sleep. This works. I hope that helps. If you don't understand Curly Girl Method terms, you need to read the Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey.
@ocandro
@ocandro 5 жыл бұрын
@@jayerscios you can also place your hair above your head on a satin pillow or in a bonnet, it doesn't have to be pineappled. I actually prefer it this way because pineappling always stretches my roots, plus I can't stand even slightest tension on my hair. Oh and one more advice: if yall have shorter hair that's hard/impossible to pineapple, try Medusa clipping!

Hey Jannelle!! We have if not the same, extremely similar curl and porosity types. Big yay for me since you were my inspiration to go curly again (for good). I always had the same outcome if not worse when I tried the plopping overnight. A method I have adapted when I do need to wash my hair at night is this: do YOUR wash routine ( mine is so similar even with what I call the “Jannelle whip” and shake.) Let your hair air dry enough to start seeing a cast and by this time your hair isn’t dripping anymore. I usually have to get as much water out as I can without removing product. Once your hair is to that point, gently swoop/flip your curls over your silk or satin pillow case and let them dry against that overnight. I personally don’t move much when I sleep, so this will really vary with everyone. The silk/satin pillow case really does work wonders even when your hair is half way dry. I still need to refresh in the morning, but my curls aren’t stretched out.

I tried plopping overnight a few times, because I have to shower at night. My hair was always still wet when I woke up, I wouldn't get a cast no matter what (I tried using insane amounts of gel in desperation, but it didn't matter), and usually all my hair would be in like 8 - 10 clumps that looked like fat noodles, and it was just awful.

This was so funny 😂😂😂 I never plop overnight tbh. I just plop for a few minutes right after putting my hair products. Meanwhile I put my bodycream and tidy the bathroom, so maybe I plop them 10-15 minutes max. It's very useful because it gets my wet hair out of the way while doing other things and it gets them bouncy and less weighted down. 10 minutes are more than enough for me 👍

I ALWAYS plop over night. In the morning, I am rather stiff and hate bending over too much (such as needed for blowdrying). For me, it works wonderfully... It cuts out so much time fussing with my hair, although in the morning (after about six hours of sleep), it is still slightly moist, but by the time I leave the house, it is fully dry (in winters. In summers it works even faster).

What I do (because of how many people I have in my family some of us have to shower at night) I shower, washing my air, put products in it, and then put it up on a t-shirt for about 15-20 minutes (the longer it's in the more it's set when it's cold and I forget I might go 25mins) then I take the shirt off and use it to SOFTLY get the excess water out (scrunching a little). Then I diffuse until it's mostly dry (about 15- minutes or a little less. I haven't timed it yet, but it doesn't take too long at all. I have thick heavy bra-strap length hair.) When I go to sleep I lay out my hair above my head on the satin pillow case and sleep like that and it works great for me. (I do NOT scrunch out at night because then it'll be frizzy and poofy in the morning. And I find the stiffness of the way the products set protect my hairs shape better through the night.) I scrunch out the crunch in the morning with some light hair oil. And use it to tame what frizz there is. Hope this helps some of you! ❤

Would not recommend plopping over night as the scalp stays damp and bacteria can then develop....

Check out the channel “The Clean Curl” ... her video named “Sleeping in the plop” is how I learned how to plop overnight. It works like a charm! I sleep in the plop 2-3 times a week and it’s such a time saver!

My 2 furbabies are both rescued cats...Roo (as in lil' Roo from Winnie the Poo) and Sampson! Also, my tip, I put my wrap on backward, so it twists from back to front. That way my curls stay in the pocket better! Love you! @jewelj76_curlygirlie on IG

Plopping doesn’t work for my wavy/curly hair. I think it’s because it’s too thin....? Hope it works for others.
