PM63 - Black Ops Multiplayer Weapon Guide

In this episode we're covering the PM-63.
It's a fully automatic weapon, unlocked at level 29.
The PM-63 RAK: 'Ręczny Automat Komandosów' - translating as 'hand-held automatic commando firearm' - is a weapon that originates from Poland.
Its development started in the late 1950s, with the design finalised in 1963 by the state-operated Łucznik Arms Factory.
Production of the RAK began in 1964, and approximately 70,000 were produced over the next decade.
The weapon was originally developed at the Warsaw University of Technology as a compact weapon for use by drivers and gun crews.
It entered service with the People's Army of Poland in 1965, and would also see limited use in East Germany, Vietnam, and a number of Arab countries.
In 1971, The PM-70 was produced in the NATO 9mm Parabellum cartridge - but didn't progress beyond its prototype stage. Similarly unsuccessful was the PM-73, chambered in .380 ACP.
The original PM-63 design is chambered for the Russian 9mm cartridge, the 9-by-18 millimetre Makarov, as used in its namesake pistol.
In real-life, magazines were either 15 or 25 rounds in capacity, but in-game they are 20 rounds by default.
The PM-63 is a low damage SMG, requiring at least 4 body shots to kill, and up to 5 at a distance.
This lack of lethality is made up for by a higher rate of fire - at 937.5 rounds per minute, like most of the low-damage SMGs.
The PM-63's handling traits are generally pretty good - the weapon handles in a rapid, consistent fashion that suits a typical aggressive playstyle.
Its recoil is moderate, but quite controllable if you burst fire at distant targets - this helps to eke out more firepower from the short magazine, ensuring fewer shots are wasted.
Aim time is as quick as any other SMG, at a sprightly 200 milliseconds.
Reloads are similarly quick, being the second fastest in the SMG category, behind the Mac-11, at 2.05 seconds.
Tactical use of the SMGs can benefit from such use of these area-denial tactics - with a little caution, you can get close to the enemy, but hold them at an arm's reach.
Siphon off kills one at a time, and change your position often to give yourself space to reload and resupply. Paired with the close-range effectiveness of rapid fire, you can stack the deck heavily in your favour.
The PM-63 is a weapon that offers nimble handling with a devastating rate of fire.
It's also very consistent in its performance - and while recoil isn't as mild as some of the other SMGs, over short to middle distances it remains very controllable - and with very consistent damage.
Its only major downside is its limited capacity - you can't spray recklessly, or engage groups of enemies: you have to make every single shot count.
Still, most gunfights tend to be one-on-one - and twenty rounds is normally sufficient for such a task.
Much of your success with the PM-63 will come through ensuring you don't overextend yourself: avoid groups of enemies, and instead lure single opponents towards you.
With careful use, you can polish off the enemy team - and RAK up your killstreaks.

This weapon was notorious for injuring its careless users with its open bolt sliding mechanism. That's the reason for name "The Dentist". Other than that there was no cover in the front so it was very easy to shoot off your thumb.

In his "bonus clips" he explains he plays with one weapons for a really really long time and uses sound based sorting to automatically pick out all the occasions he gets multiple kills which inevitable means he selects the occasions he's playing against Dumb and Dumber on the enemy team.

People severely underestimate consistency in a firearm in Call of Duty. Even though the PM-63 isn't the most powerful gun in the game, knowing exactly how long you need to fire to ensure a kill can be life saving, as it helps you conserve ammunition and win sustained gunfights. Low capacity, low damage. It's really a shit gun both in game and in real life. In reality, if you're not careful when fire it, the gun will poke your eye out and shear off your finger. The Polish quickly thrown this junk away when they finally out of Communist rule, because the high rate of accident with this gun.

The HUD icon for the PM63 was terribly designed. The grip was folded, and the magazine protruded from the pistol grip, both of which are not reflected upon in the default model, and only the folded grip can be made possible when using Dual Wield. I'm disappointed how badly designed the HUD icon was. Surely you can remember what model the weapon [that you designed] has, Trollarch.

the uzi has a reason to be used. Uzi with ext. mags gives you 48 rounds, highest of any SMG. Pm63 has no benefit that would lead you to picking it. Im guessing the devs put the iron sights as a strength, but honestly they are just above average to me. It needs to have a higher damage profile (same as 74u and mp5k) with the fire rate and mag size staying the same to be competitive.

It was sad how they only had 2 main rates of fire in this game 750 and 937.5rpm. Made a lot of weapons useless. For SMGs there were really only 3 different weapons. The AK74u, Skorpion, and Spectre. The rest were pointless outside of attachment choices. The Enfield had the only difference being faster aim time, but had the slower 750rpm rate of fire meaning the FAMAS and arguably the AUG were the only assault rifles worth using outside of the M14/FAL. It was either the M60 or Stoner 63 for LMGs. Damage and capacity or rate of fire. Pistols were either damage or capacity. The M1911 should have had higher damage. Would have been way better if they had more than 3 different rates of fire and damage profiles for automatic weapons.

There is a video on it, explaining what I just said. Try finding it if you want to. The sniper rifle is basically an electron powered rifle that has an x-ray attached to it. The electrons, or whatever it uses, replaces the gunpowder, gas, and spring mechanisms we use today. There's a basic description of the sniper rifle.

I usually use Scavenge rand sleight of hand, but with the PM63 I would suggest a lightning-fast class with lightweight, sleight of hand, and marathon. So you can sprint across the map but still be able to hold down a position with sleight of hand.

I can agree with that, and I also know that Dice recorded actual gun sounds, as opposed to IW, who created them on a computer. My problem, though, is that the majority of the guns sound much too similar in Battlefield 3, at least to me. Of course, it's probably more realistic, but it can get repetitive, which is why I like the variety from the Call of Duty series.

Personally I love using dual wield with the PM63, especially on smaller maps such as Nuketown. It clears a house or building so quickly when you can fire 40 bullets instead of 30 using extended mags.

Yes, I took a few more looks at some gun comparisons, and I'll agree with most of what you said. However, I still find the reload animations to be much more smooth in Call of Duty than in Battlefield, especially with the light machine guns.
