I always think of the maturity of this relationship. The real reason I thought she would always end up with Lucas and that the writers intended it from the start was from that post- Union city episode. Nathan gets angry about the date and lashes out in a very unhealthy way towards Elizabeth and she has to go to him to resolve the issue. While when she and Lucas have an issue, neither of them shy away from it and find a way to communicate and apologize. Also in the beginning of season 8 with the Helen Bouchard issue. She seeks him out and so does he. It’s just a reall mature relationship taht she doesn’t have at all with Nathan. It never gets to that point

I believe that during the 3 plus yrs that L & E interacted they got to learn a lot about each other. When E chose L they were already deep into each other's personalities and habits. LJ is the most important person in Elizabeth's life so Lucas had to focus on both of them during his courtship. LJ was part of the equation so he could not just focus on the romance with Elizabeth. He had to accept her son as well and give a lot of attention to him. The way the writers handled their courtship is commendable.I think the more intimate moments between L & E will come later.

So happy you Ladies are back!!! You guys are awesome! Love the different points of view, because at times I feel that we have not been able to enjoy the Lucabeth romance completely due to the backlash from S8. I loved S9, but still feel that they are holding back to appease the Nathan fans...just my opinion. Grand gestures or small...I can't get enough of them!!! This is s man who is head over heels for Elizabeth so why not! Lucas is written as a very compassionate and kind character. He feels deeply with great emotion; and he genuinely cares greatly about Elizabeth and the entire town. I can't wait to see what S10 and this new showrunner will bring. Thank you Ladies for all that you do! 💖

Regarding the backyard dinner, I always assumed that Elizabeth’s note was to cancel because of little Jack not feeling well and that Lucas probably wrote back that he would bring dinner to her house.

I am in your corner, Div! I am looking forward to seeing what the new show runner brings to season 10. I got the feeling that JT wasn't a big fan of Lucas. Starting in season 8, he started tweaking Lucas' character, tearing him down. By the end of season 9, he had him pouting and doubting himself. I am hoping we get to see a more confident, happy Lucas next season.

This is my take on the flowers episode. When Nathan says he has done something nice, I think he was making out to Lucas he had bought the flowers. Then next day when Lucas gives his flowers to Elizabeth first, he then realised Nathan hadn't given the flowers before hand so now he has a laugh that he gave his flowers first. Love having you guys back. Agree with season 9 being disappointing. Glad we have a new writer.

I liked the things Lucas did for her in the beginning of his wooing her. She needed it and he hasn't had a girlfriend in a while or if ever, so he is going to invest, time and money into it. He knew someone needed to do something special for her because she was always going out of her way to do special things for others. Lucas always made sure she was happy around him. Lucas took her to UC for several reasons. She hadn't gone or done anything special since she married Jack. Lucas wanted to see how she was in a different surrounding without interruptions. He wanted her to know his intentions. Lucas knew Elizabeth was afraid of rejections, that's why he didn't ask her. The thing is, Lucas knows that world very well. Elizabeth would not have thought of sending in unfinished work to a publisher. By doing so Lucas helped Elizabeth financially because she was getting paid to write. He was quick to apologize. That was Lucas's car outside Rosemary's house. I think Elizabeth note told Lucas to come to the house because she was dressed for a date. I think Elizabeth had the candles because Jack was the king of candles, so she probably had them stored in her house. I believed Gustave and Lucas decorated the outside for the dinner. In S8 everything Lucas did for their dates, Nathan could have done because nothing was expensive. It was romantic and that's not Nathan. Lucas is a refine, respectful, gorgeous, giving, well dressed man, that stands out anywhere he goes. There aren't many people like Lucas. He makes an effort to be who he is. I appreciated seeing other sides of Lucas but I don't want his character destroyed because people don't get him. I know they were showing him as a family man in S9, but I want them to at least go all out for the honeymoon. With the ring, Elizabeth only saw the case after Lucas had gotten out of jail. He kept mentioning her gift, so when she saw the box she just figured he was going to propose for her birthday, but everything that was going on, caused him to change plans. Elizabeth want to marry him so badly she can't wait or don't want to wait anymore. All kind of crazy things were going through her mind. I loved all their moments but they were too short for them being the leading couple. Now that they are engaged, I want some romantic dates. If Elizabeth hug Nathan one more time I am going to scream. He's a grown man, I am tired of them treating him like a fragile doll. Good show ladies, great job👏👏👏👏👏

Season 10 yay so happy great review I gree with both sides .One thing about season 9 they had to much going on and I think they need to scale that back alittle .season 10 needs more dates with lucas and Elizabeth I really want them riding horses together I would love a walk on the bridge at night. Romantic dinners etc. The place that was chosen for the proposal was perfect because that was the same location where they both said If we should marry and I thought it was perfect .I hated that they cut the pillow scene short there was alot more to it and they cut the best part. NEVER CUT LUCAS AND ELIZABETH SCENES !!!!!!

So glad you mentioned that Elizabeth and Lucas are the lead characters in the show! Hopefully the writers remember that as well! I’m fine with Nathan being a close friend, but he doesn’t have to be involved in every aspect of their life. He needs a life of his own, but his life, or that of any of the other characters shouldn’t diminish the fact that the story is told from the perspective of Elizabeth’s life. That’s a huge part of what makes it so uniquely enjoyable.

I agree with Jillian that it made total sense for them to be as domestic as they were because the situation is different and unique given she has a child already and it is important that they are comfortable as a family.

A grand gesture that was overlooked was in season 8 episode 11 when Lucas came to Elizabeth to explain that he was letting her go so that she could be free to discover what was in her heart and find her true love. He knew that she had been troubled by the information that Nathan had kept from her and also felt caught in the middle between the affection of two men. Nathan, who saw this as more of a competition , was not going to back down and was totally oblivious how that was affecting Elizabeth. Lucas was a gentleman and allowed Elizabeth the time she needed to process all that she had been going through ( Nathan/ Fort Clay, Moving on from Jack, conflicts with Landis, and also with Rosemary). He did not want to pressure her in any way. Lucas was willing to step back and risk losing the woman he loves, all for her happiness. This is the ultimate gesture.

Since Lucas and Nathan came to the series Lucas always reminded me of Jack with Elizabeth. I never thought that the mounty aspect should be so important. I think Lucas is more like Jack than Nathan. If you look over the first 5 seasons Jack always put Elizabeth first, the same as Lucas did. Enjoy your conversations.

I did not like that comment from Nathan about backing out. It turns my stomach every time I watch season 6 over and hears Nathan tell Lucas isn’t a good fit. I’m a bit upset with the writers about that comment. It’s bullish.

Lucas and Elizabeth that's my couple they are so in love and they have so much in common. Nathan should have Allie on his mind first and not be in Lucas and Elizabeth life he's in there to much and dose not need a love interest yet.

They had dates during the last season. He took her up in a balloon for heavens sake. That was a pretty neat date. He organized her book publishing party and that was a really thoughtful gesture. They were having supper when she had on the beautiful red outfit. They were also at Ned's Hannukah service together. They must have had lots of dates because the season went from spring until fall. We just didn't get to see them all. They had so many beautiful intimate moments that more than made up for fewer grand big gestures. The non vows at the gas station were unbelievably romantic. Their sweet talks on the floor on the night of her birthday were beautifully done. They were far better than any fancy date. There's lots of time for many romantic dates now that we have season 10.

One more thought, I also didn’t think he was such a grand gesture guy( not that I don’t live a romantic gesture) I think that Elizabeth was trying to say in season 9 that he doesn’t have to work so hard for her affection and to show he loves her. That it’s in the everyday little moments. Which he got right away bec he has been doing that as well. I am happy they stayed away this season from grandness bec we got to see a more authentic relationship of two people progressing in their love and communication without the candles

Maybe he didn't give her the earrings on her birthday because the whole day was totally upset because of Walden's reappearance and they went straight to Bill's office where he came up with a plan to try and implicate Walden. Lucas was pretty preoccupied with all that and then the next day was thrown into jail. He had already given her gorgeous roses so that was really thoughtful. When he gave her the earrings it led up to the "I love yous" which was done perfectly. It wasn't over the top but so sweet and personal. I think the writers totally knew what they were doing.
