Pretty spot on ladies. With the moments and scenes and what was telling and foreshadowed. It was always Lucas. The wrote him and them as having much in common with Elizabeth. His respect and communication with Elizabeth and how she responds to him wholeheartedly. She lights up with him. And she has chosen him in various ways each time. Whether be it a library, flowers, dance, trip, dates, her writing etc. Her eyes gazing and smiles whenever he leaves. Even when they had disagreement, she and Lucas wanted to reach out, you felt that longing and lingering … wanting to make things right with him (contrast with N). If ur making a chose who she will finally pick in season finale.. then writers would of known and made final decision in pitching the season getting from start point to end point in season 8. So yes the writers and show runners knew but I believe they kept the actors all guessing (I believe Erin knew before the guys but not before writers and show runners made the decisions). It was always Lucas for Elizabeth. He felt written for her. He feels right and best for her. Connection/connected and Soulmates.

Another great analysis ladies! Love how you hone in on all the tiny clues and details! I think Elizabeth definitely knew she loved Lucas in the beginning of season 8. Her reaction to his return is very telling and you can see a huge contrast to the dynamic between her and Nathan earlier that day and then later on with her reluctance to accept the dinner invite and even cancelling on him. Did anyone happen to notice in episode 4, when the Coulters are having an “early” dinner in the saloon and Rachel mentions tenderloin with “mushroom sauce”… Elizabeth and Lucas are looking at each other 😍 There is definitely a romantic memory tied to those mushrooms! Lol 🍄 💞

You all are entertaining and observant and make a great team!! I am an 81 year old widowed senior citizen who happened to find this site very recently. I have not seen most episodes of When Calls The Heart, but I believe I did see an episode when Elizabeth and Lucas really see each other for the first time(?) If I recall it correctly, there was an instant reaction that seemed to be like lightening hitting them at the same time. It reminded me of the first time my late husband and I saw each other! I was hoping they would end up together from day1! As you can probably imagine, I love this program.

I am so glad you ladies posted this. I love watching your analysis’ of this relationship. I believe she chose early on based on her reaction to Lucas in episode 1 of this season but especially after they were officially dating. Based on the time period alone they could not have let her character change her mind after all the flirting, near kisses, and public hand holding. I believe her saying she knew she made the right choice not to be with Nathan was a blatant confirmation in episode 2 and all of the Team Nathan people are grasping at straws and just being petty because their guy didn’t win. I have gone back and rewatched all of the scenes with both guys many, many times and it is obvious who her heart was with.

Lucas going into Elizabeth's house will be a BIG deal finally somehow because they have put this off forever. Maybe at Christmas ??? They both do a lot of huge breath-holding scenes and we couldn't be happier for them than in the final episode when all is revealed and we can all finally exhale with happiness and delight !!!! Really enjoyed this podcast. I, too, believe Elizabeth chose Lucas early on, but maybe she, herself, didn't realize it. In her heart & mind, she had to realize that a lot of her feelings for Nathan was because of Jack. And then she had to realize her feelings for Lucas is true love. That it was ok to take off her wedding rings & keep Jack as a wonderful memory in her heart, but then open herself up for new love with Lucas. Her reading Jack's last letter helped her do just that. Now for Nathan, he has to realize that his feelings for Elizabeth were out of obligation & not love & move on. Can't hardly wait for Season 9 to start!!!

Elizabeth chose early because she knew that Lucas was for her. It was just meant to be. So the writers did a good job choosing Lucas for Elizabeth so now hoping the writers will get us viewers attention to what to expect next season and hoping it will be a spectacular one!👍🏼

I enjoyed your podcast so very much ladies. You did a great job. As far as Lucas and Elizabeth. Lucas was chosen for Elizabeth in S6. I don't care what the cast and producers are saying. Elizabeth and Lucas relationship has grown over the 3 seasons. Right away you saw the character of each man. Everyone was worried about Elizabeth meeting Nathan including herself. So everyone knew there was a problem for her. Lucas met Elizabeth and the baby at the same time. Look how many things Elizabeth and Lucas did together in S6. They even had a family meal together in the cafe. When the bookshelf broke she didn't want Nathan to fix it she wanted Lucas. After the Amos Dixon incident the flirtation they had in the library before Jack's christening. In the opening credits of Lucas introduction, Chris's name follows Erin's. The writer in S6 wanted Lucas and Elizabeth to kiss at the dance. Elizabeth doesn't kiss everyone like some of the other ladies. So if they were considering that, it meant she was going to be with Lucas. Elizabeth always defended Lucas to Nathan. In the Christmas special Lucas was already in love. I am still trying to decide when I knew for sure Elizabeth had fallen in love. Bill saw it at Clara and Jessie's rehearsal dinner. Bill also noticed how happy Elizabeth is whenever she's around Lucas. Notice Elizabeth when she's in the room with other people and Lucas, she's always right up under him like a teenager with a crush. Elizabeth likes kind people and Lucas is that and more. The only thing Lucas pressured her on was her writing. He really pushed her out of her comfort zone. When Elizabeth is with Lucas he doesn't add not one burden to her. With Nathan she has to always do something for him. When she was having fun with Lucas playing darts here comes lying Nathan to get Lucas out of the way and he doesn't even know how to play darts. Elizabeth has to teach him. He's to needy and rude and unkind to a lot of people including Elizabeth. This is the last thing I going to say. Nathan has too many criminals in his family and Elizabeth doesn't like that, remember how she felt about Jack's brother. Does Nathan know Elizabeth is rich too?

Nathan had so many flaws and Lucas was as about as perfect as you could get so the producers thought you could see the difference.

Right from ep.1, s6, I felt very strongly that Chris McNally was brought on the show to be Elizabeth's next love interest. She seemed to light up every time she spoke to Lucas. And, as the girls said, she spent so much more time with Lucas. And, when she asked him to dance and not Nathan, in the last episode of s6, that did it for me. I can't wait to see how s9 is going to play out.

I think Elizabeth totally had a lightbulb moment in front of the merchantile when Nathan tells her it’s time to settle down and looking at Bill’s land probably included her! That’s the instant it confirmed to her that she needed to resolve things with Nathan and tell him she can’t give him what he wants. That’s when she tells him she needs to talk to him when he gets back. He totally derailed her “speech” when he blurted out he loved her. She wasn’t expecting that and fled because she didn’t want to completely crush him by telling him she didn’t love him that way. Those two….they were NEVER able to communicate well and were NEVER on the same wavelength on anything relationship wise. Things digressed significantly in that regard in season 7, especially after the windstorm with the students, and it continued to deteriorate in season 8. Any little hints she tried to drop in his direction were totally missed. They were never soul mates.

I believe the hug scene with Nathan at the end of season 7 was a reaction that brought back the emotions that Elizabeth felt when she was told that Jack had died….. she wanted nothing more than for that to be wrong and for Jack to walk up as Nathan had….. I have always felt that the triangle was not between Elizabeth, Lucas, and Nathan but rather Elizabeth, Lucas, and Jack’s memory…..

I think Kendra Schaffner is right about the triangle being between Elizabeth, Lucas, and her memories of Jack not Elizabeth, Lucas, and Nathan. Elizabeth and Lucas are such a perfect couple. They have so much in common and the chemistry is undeniable. I just didn't feel the same sparks between Elizabeth and Nathan. That relationship always felt strained to me. I can't wait for S9!!!

I really enjoyed this. I saw Lucas from the beginning of 8. I watched seven again and did see some Nathan and Elizabeth flirtation but not quite the same as Lucas and Elizabeth. I really wish we had all these podcasts and videos before the end. The confidence of the Nathan fans had me doubting a little.

Nathan knows that Elizabeth has empathy for Allie's situation, and used it to persuade Elizabeth to go out with him. Then she meets Lucas and Helen on the way, and realized that is not what she wanted to do. She was trying to fight her feelings to totally commit for Lucas. Maybe she didn't want to hurt Nathan and Allie until it was unbearable.

Yesterday I posted a way too long comment on another of your podcasts about the symbolism of the serge. I think Elizabeth's confusion all along was between Nathan the man and Nathan the mountie. She was drawn to the mountie, only because of Jack, but the man, not so much! When they met on the road as he was coming back from Bill's land, he wasn't wearing the serge, and she did tell him she couldn't give him what he wanted. The final scene between them when she really breaks up with him was in his office and he is wearing the serge. For her to break up with him and explain it to where he had to accept it, it was important she explained the confusion between him and Jack....and he had to be wearing his uniform!

I really agree. That is one thing that’s really great about Lucas, he doesn’t push his thoughts and feelings on to her. I also feel really bad for Allie in this scene because Nathan says how great the land is with a nearby river for fishing and Allie would love it and then just turns it down because of Elizabeth. Dude, buy it anyway for your niece and give her her first permanent home, what’s wrong with you?!

I just rewatched episode 1 today and had an epiphany. If you watch the scene where E finally gives in to going to dinner with N, when he takes away the obstacle and says “let’s take the kids” this is what makes her say yes. If you watch she gives a little smile and says “the four of us, um okay.” I believe this is what made her say yes because the kids would be there as a buffer and she knew romance would not be happening. Watch the end where they’re walking, both kids are between her and Nathan and he and she are not even interacting. I believe she only agreed to go because she knew it would not be romantic and she decided to go home because she saw Lucas and knew that he would think it was a date and she did not want that. Even without the threat of romance with Nathan she couldn’t go through with it.

I have re- watched Seasons 6, 7, and 8 numerous times and drawing the conclusion of Lucas being “the one” was displayed over and over with at least a little something in each episode. Their shared looks, interactions, personal time/dates together don’t compare in anyway with Elizabeth’s and Nathan’s. Nathan has no clue/ doesn’t know about all the times Lucas and Elizabeth have shared together- yet Lucas knows most about Elizabeth and Nathan because she seems to always tell Lucas about them. Her eyes light up (happy) around Lucas, her eyes around Nathan show worry or confusion- nothing compares. BTW, I saw several times Lucas interacted with Little Jack, although IMO, Nathan did not have quite as many. I can’t wait to see a great love story, hopefully with at least an engagement in nine- that would be divine!!!!!!!!!❤️ I really enjoyed your podcast, when will part 2 be posted?

I knew it was Lucas early on and could not believe anyone could possibly think Nathan was her choice. I've never heard of a group so devoted to understanding - with passion - the WCTH characters like your "team." Yes the Hearties are also very devoted. The devotion should confirm to Hallmark that this type of writing and choice of actors is what we the viewers want - quality programs. I hope John Tinker continues to be involved in the scripts. I am at the end of season 6 , as I am binge watching it on NETFLIX, I fell in love with this series ,WE dont have Hallmark in the Caribbean, I have to wait for NETFLIX to get season 7, 8, 9. CANDLES.......Jack had candles several times: on their first date, The Mountie dance they did after getting Christmas ready & Jack making a candle path when he asked Elizabeth to marry him. So candles is definitely a Hallmark thing.

My hope when it comes to the choice of 2 men in Hope Valley, I really hope Elizabeth is true to her love with Lucas. Nathan should be thought of only as a friend. She has always expressed her love for Lucas and was truly in love with him. So hopefully Lucas and Elizabeth needs to remember their love and repair it if it needs it. They should Always remember the love they had at first and rekindle their love and move ahead. 💙💕💙

I just watched 8-1 again. Elizabeth told Rosemary or should I say didn’t deny that she hadn’t made up her mind. I noticed that Elizabeth was concerned when Nathan was taking off on the secret mission concerning Allie’s father. He wasn’t very forth coming with the truth about it. I believe Elizabeth was concerned which took her back in her mind to Jack and his Mountie work. She noticed he was in some kind of scuffle. I think that was the turning point where her decision was coming clearer.

All I can think when watching Nathan interact with Elizabeth is that he is a sweet man who has zero experience with women and lacks an understanding of women as well. He needs more practice before he finds the one for him and settles down😄😂. I mean, it was glaringly obvious to me that the show couldn't possibly have him and Elizabeth together with the way they wrote his character.

In episode 1, when Lucas appears at Elisabeth's door, he apilogises for leaving without saying a word and she doesn't say "It's okay" or something like that. She cared about where he was and why he left and she doesn't let him off the hook for that. She wants to know everything about him. Again, when Lucas is angry about his mother, he doesn't apologize right away. He knows and recognizes that he's upset not only because Elisabeth didn't tell him about his parents, but because he idealized their marriage and his word is kind of crushing in on him. He knew he had hurt her, and I think a part of him would have wanted to apologize instantly, because she was hurt, but he didn't. Clearly both Elisabeth and Lucas are not happy about their 'disagreement', but they only apologize when they mean it. She also doesn't apologize for not telling him, because she really had no choice, but for hurting him. They clearly thought about what went wrong and how to fix it. I think it's really significant because it establishes how honest they are with each other.

Honestly di believe elisabeth did well to choose lucas because i would find it bizard that she chooses nathan every day that she will see nathan she will think about jack and i find her unhealthy and deep down she does not like nathan but jack and i would find this hipocrite for nathan and nathan didn't like elizabeth me i think he just had the guilt that it was because of him that jack was dead that's why he came to coal valle and also i found that nathan didn't not much beaten enough to conquer elisabeth's heart and it s as if he nearly pushed him to go fight for elisabeth and when look from the beginning of the series from season 7 to season 8 nathan was not interested in the personality from elisabeth he just wanted to be with her and no more. so i didn't see their future together but on the other hand lucas was really interested in elisabeth and you already wanted the future together. and the relationship between lucas and elisabeth is mature. and what i liked is lucas showed his true personality from the start while nathan when elisabeth asked him questions he was reserved.

It's time to move on season 8 is over. If the writers knew that Elizabeth knew she wanted Lucas then the writers should have ended the triangle. And stop Elizabeth from leading Nathan on. We are so tied of hearing this mess. Nathan never had a fair chance. If the writers would have give Nathan the right storylines he would have been just as romantic as Lucas because he is just as good of a actor as Lucas.

Of course if the writers gave Nathan a fair chance, he would have had a fair chance. But the writing went to Lucas. Elizabeth chose Lucas, and if you look back, it’s evident. And it’s such an amazing love story. 🥰
