Could you please do a video on Oral Allergy Syndrome?! It makes a vegan wholefood diet much harder to follow, it also doesn't help I get acid reflux sometimes too. It makes it very difficult for me to eat any berries, do you have any alternative to berries? I am usually OK eating dates and figs. But most other fruits cause issues.

@@user-qd5lo6oi8n You can try allergy shots or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for the pollen that's triggering your OAS, but you should probably research it a bit since I've heard of some cases where it triggered eosinophilic esophagitis. My daughter has Celiac & OAS & she was ovo-lacto vegetarian. She started vomiting uncontrollably & she wound up hospitalized. She was diagnosed w/ Celiac in hospital (after 1st being misdiagnosed w/ ARFID). The OAS diagnosis came after seeing a mast cell specialist as an outpatient. Since her diet is so limited she now eats poultry a couple of times a week. She can tolerate some things if I cook them to death. We have a room HEPA filter - that helps. She takes Claritin every day, plus Mg, vit C, vit D, bromelain & luteolin - all for mast cell stabilization. Plus other vitamins to make up for nutritional deficits and also CoQ10 and some other things for chronic fatigue. As alternative to berries you might try hibiscus tea; some grains also have anthocyanins (I think Dr Greger mentioned red sorghum?). My daughter can eat blueberries. Fuji apples are the least allergenic & the peel has most of the allergen & there's still quite a lot of beneficial stuff in the flesh (e.g., dihydrochalcones); cooking denatures the allergen.
@rhyothemisprinceps1617 Жыл бұрын
You might want to try a low histamine diet - but that's adding more restrictions. My daughter seems okay with tomato paste, which is high in histamine. But I have GERD off and on, and tomato paste is a big GERD trigger for me. GERD may also be mast cell related (I have MCAS). I found persimmon tea made just with dried persimmons to be helpful for GERD.

Purple sweet potatoes are relatively easy to grow but you will need to order slips. Kale is also pretty easy to grow, but you may have to pick off caterpillars. Braconid wasp adults like to feed on flower nectar - sweet alyssum is a good choice for companion planting. My MIL lives in TN & used to get the Kroger manager to order specialty items for her - don't know if store managers still have the ability to do that for customers.

I found it very easy to grow both leaf lettuce and 'dandelion greens' (actually Cichorium intybus) in zone 7b. I grew the lettuce using the dense planting technique in raised beds; no bolting until very late in season even tho it was a hot summer. Chicory never bloomed - it vigorously produced leaves until a hard freeze killed it. I can't remember the varieties, but I purchased from Johnny's Seeds. Don't buy their broccoli seeds for sprouting - they are not actually broccoli.

@kardste8114 Жыл бұрын
I would think berries would Lose their Vitamin C , because water soluble vitamins are destroyed with heating... from what I learned in college. I’m not a nutritionist. I thaw my frozen berries slowly by heating full saucepan of water.. and putting my porcelain bowl of frozen berries on top of the heated water, cover, and they thaw perfect for topping oatmeal. Be sure stove is Off when you Place berries atop the heated water.

Are whole plant protein shakes any good and healthy? You know the Greens ones and such. I’ve been going more meatless and I definitely see the muscle reduction on my body. I want to intermittent fast still be mostly Miklos at least five days a week and still retain muscle mass from adequate amount of protein intake. Oh I had a brain tumor meningioma removed so kinda careful about anything that promotes too much growth hormone like meat which I hear promotes tumors.

My first post on Ehlers-Danlos got deleted so I will try again. EHLERS-DANLOS OFTEN CAUSES GI PROBLEMS. Many people with EDS suffer from gastroparesis, some wind up on TPN. If you want to know more about EDS, The Ehlers-Danlos Society has a KZbin channel. There was also a recent 5 minute video on CNN on EDS '"Ehlers-Danlos patients share their stories" (try a web search as it is not on YT) - one woman shows her feeding tube.
@lisengel2498 Жыл бұрын
These Q&A can be pretty difficult to get the nuances of what is recommended ( if you dont know it already) e.g. The higher protein need with age became very unclear to me. I am 79 and have changed to a mostly whole food plant based diet, but I still like to eat heering, sardins and occationally wild salmon. My weight has gode down ( and I was not overweight) but I like the body feeling, but I still have some symptoms in my fight knee and some muscle paint after an influenza, so I was thinking that I should try 100% plant based ? But then maybe not if it is important to have higher amounts of protein when you age? 🍀💚🐸

Lots of plant based protein. Plant based body builders get loads in. Soya beans, tempeh, tofu, beans, lentils, peanut butter, potatoes etc Omega 3 DHA & EPA based on algae supplement I take instead of the eating fish - contaminate free, sustainable, less cost and no fish die. Look up Dr. Greger's DAILY DOZEN app and his book from the library How Not To Die. Explains it all. Best wishes on your journey.

My husband had an MRI scan of his spine for back related issues and they found areas that looked like it might be cancer. He had lots of specific blood tests and all were negative. The anxiety through the roof waiting for those results. 5 years on and he's still alive and no symptoms of anything accept his occasional back aches. He probably needs to do his exercises.

Of course it's very unlikely one would eat this amount of greens in a day but some crazy health nuts have landed themselves in the icu
@andreawisner7358 Жыл бұрын
Dr. Greger is wrong about Ehlers-Danlos and shouldn't speak about things he doesn't know. There are Ehlers-Danlos Society videos with specialist doctors on KZbin and I suggest that he review them. Yes Ehlers-Danlos is connected to stomach pain - gastroparesis and MALS being 2 of them. Ehlers-Danlos is also connected to severe allergic-like reactions, another thing that you wouldn't expect if you know nothing about it. Most EDS patients are prescribed an increase in salt, which would horrify Dr. Greger. We tend to have very low blood pressure, with syncope. Absolutely this person should see a doctor but needs to be cautious about unknowledgeable doctors who will gaslight her and tell her that her symptoms are all caused by anxiety or are otherwise in her head. Doctors hate being wrong - God complex.
