I am repeatedly, reliably engaged, challenged, and thoughtfully activated every time I hear Cole speak (or read his written output.) Every. Time. Cheers from Mpls.! Thanks for the great conversation. 💙 On the topic of making + "getting closer to the painting": my undergrad studies focused on theater--playwriting, directing, design. For many years I couldn't attend a performance and *not* analyze / dissect it. It later hit me that if I lost myself in a production--as purely an audience member--it was a potent signal that something special was happening in front of us.

Cole Wehrle's IP is a game genre all of its own. I find it intelligent and original. Looking forward to hearing more about 2nd Edition 'An Infamous traffic' and 'Pax Romanum'. Thank you for this insight

The blocks in Pamir have a great touch, and I just received JC--it's a gorgeous game. I always appreciate Cole's discussions of games and game design.

I agree with Cole about my preference being games that have shorter setup times and never letting production quality (detailed miniatures, lots of components, etc.) get in the way of letting people get the game to a table and play. I'm cool with learned long rulebooks when getting a complicated game to the table for the first time, but I love games that allow you to rock and roll right away once the rules are known.

absolutely fascinating chat, loved the stuff on rule-books, and honestly left the video thinking, hmm what game do I want to make? Brilliant.

Great tete-a-tete... great hosting and great guest. Cole is such a 'whirlwind' when he gets going on games. Love his enthusiasm. Nice to hear he's going to Essen. As Cole is on top on my best designers list, I'll try to fan bow him, when I run into him overthrew ;-)

The Old Prince sounds fantastic, but I don't have anyone who wants to play 18XX games :( 1862 Railway Mania solo mode is one of my all-time favourite games. I wish people would develop more solo modes for some of these 18XX games using a similar system.

Here I was excited to start digging into 1817 and along comes Cole to sell me on 1871. Wait, Cannes is good? I got it free with VOC when I bought a copy of Indonesia a decade and a bit ago.. I haven't opened it yet.

Well, I like the minis and my solution to this Problem is to get an organizer. Fun to hear that Cole has the exact same ranking for Ankh > RS > BR with the qualifier that BR is a good game. Given the widespread popularity of BR it looks like we're in the minority. Looking forward to my copy of JC2 soon and Arcs farther down the road. I usually don't consider designers much when choosing what games to get, but Cole has become a reason to almost auto-buy a game.

After some investigation I think it can be this one -> Union vs. Central (previous message was probably removed due to included URL)

As for John Company SE rulebook - too little examples and images! Especially for Firms, it's mostly a text, it makes the game really hard to understand...
