I would love for you to talk about the dynamic of the team members helping each other out. No one talks about the team members of the world champion and I know in the Tour de France they all obviously share the winning pot so what is the motivation for a team member to help out another team member who may win the World Championship?

Often it is a sense of patriotism and/or knowing that there is little chance for them them to win. Then ofcourse there is the chance if they don't follow the agreed on roles, that they won't be selected in the next few years. And if a teammate wins, that always will also be something special to you too, having played a part in it.

At the beginning of this year, I thought Pog couldn't do it alone. But here we are, and time and time again, he's proven that he doesn’t need teammates to pull a rabbit out of the hat. It's almost like he’s the one-man band of cycling! If he’s on form, he'll be smelling roses, and who knows, maybe even a trophy-because clearly, relying on others is just too mainstream for him!

@@tonyg3091 Oh, absolutely! Let's not forget that tiny solo attack from 81K out at Strade Bianche. Just a casual ride in the park, right? And of course, that little effort from 50K out in 2022-barely worth mentioning! Sure, the TDF team was "instrumental," though, as Chris astutely noted, they had some "tactical errors." But the Giro? Oh please, who even needs a team when you're Pog? I’m sure he could’ve just started as Team Pog Solo because, let’s face it, there were totally no riders even close to his level there. Why bother with teammates when you're practically racing yourself?

Chris - can you analyze how trade team affiliations can play a role in the road race? Poland Portugal and Spain could potentially work for Pogacar/UAE if their respective leaders fall behind? Generally this doesn't play as much influence imo, however it also depends on the situation. If you are gone with a trade teammate, you'll likely work together more than if not, even if you are on rival countries. However your trade teammates won't likely be covering attacks or closing gaps for you. So it can play a role, but in a more limited way.

losing WVA is a big hit, but Belgium has a lot wider talent pool to pull riders from than Slovenia. They couldn't even create 2-3 teams that would be considered top 5-10 in the race. There really is a lot of competition for the spots. Slovenia on the other hand has to replace Mohoric with a much weaker rider that might never prove relevant in the race.

People in the comments saying Pogacar can win all by himself and that he did it several times this year... Pog is the leader of the team that is by far the best team in the world, what are you talking about? He always had a super team around him this year, he never won alone. He is, by far, the best in the world right now but people saying he could win alone don't have a clue of how this sport works. If you think he can drop everyone on a 6% 2km climb without a team capable of forcing a hard tempo during the race and lauching him at the right time, you're wrong. If you think he can control attacks from teams like Belgium, with Remco on his wheel and then also have the strength to attack himself and drop everyone, you're wrong. He is the best bike rider in the world, he is not a super hero

@BMCS97
@BMCS97 Ай бұрын
@@mariusmanoiu2228 No sir, you don't understand this sport. You are comparing the tour, a 3 week race, to a world championship, 1 day race. In the 2020 tour he followed Roglic wheel the best he could on the road stages, because Visma didn't have nobody else to attack him, and they also controlled the race for him. Then, on the time trial, an individual effort, he in fact beat the hell out of Roglic. But the time trial is an individual effort, team doesn't matter there. Not only this, you are comparing the tour, a race full of HC 20 km above 7% climbs, with a race that has a few 2km 6% climbs. If you think that Pog can drop Remco, Van Der Poel and the best 1 day racers in the world, on a 2km 6% climb if the race isn't hard enough before, you are just wrong. If you think Pog can close down every single attack if the other countries just start to attack with everyone around him, with Remco and the other leaders on his wheel, taking advantage of his draft, and then still drop them, you are just wrong. I'm not saying he isn't the favourite or that he isn't the strongest, because he is both of them. But people that think that he can win alone, with everyone else attacking around him and with him having to close down every single gap, with other leaders on his wheel enjoying his sweet draft... They are just delusional, to use your own word
@BMCS97

@@mariusmanoiu2228 Just look at what happened in 2022. Visma isolated him in stage 11, attacked him with Roglic while Jonas was on his wheel and then you know what happened. Even recently Pog said himself, about that day, that you can't respond to 7/8 accelerations with people on your wheel and then still have energy to drop them. In 1 day races tactics and teams are also way more important than they are in grand tours, because there's no other day to make up for any mistake

Roglic only need to cover moves from the riders that can not be chased by the peloton. BELGIUM has the best team and they will be chasing breakaway. So Pog and Roglic need to watch Remco. However if a strong group goes on a break..let's say 10 riders with Jorgenson Alaphilipe, etc...that can be trouble if Slovenia and Belgium will be looking at each other like: you catch them!

You obviously haven't checked our team roster...If they go up the road we then put Mezgec, Govekar, Jan Tratnik and Domen Novak at the front of the peloton to control the gap. Then we use Roglič to catapult Pogi in the penultimate or last lap. And the country is called Slovenia ffs, you would think people would know this by now with the amount of Pogi's exposure.
@MDP1702
@MDP1702 Ай бұрын
@@ogradar85 Mezgec should be gone by the time attacks start to fly and Govekar likely too or soon after. So that leaves Tratnik and Novak against a potentially strong group, they'll just be used up quite quickly then (or not able to keep the gap stable/close it). Also not sure how strong Novak currently is. Tratnik also didn't look great in the Canadian classics, so lets see if he's in good shape first.

It may be so. But it may be that Pogacar wears it deservingly as the top rider and Roglic will know that if he does not help but disappear or will ride competitively against Pog and then cracks that won't look good on him. Slovenia is a small nation of 4 million. People will see it

Well said. However, Roglic would love to be the FIRST Slovenian rider to win a WC. Grab the headlines back in his home country and rub the jersey in Pog's face all of next year.
