Visma LAB riding on the front for Wout was perhaps not a wise use of energy, but I think the stage was a great morale boost for the team. Jonas got through unscathed, losing no time to Tadej, and Wout was up there at the pointy end which would have been good for his confidence going forward as well. Even denied Tadej bonus seconds.

What an amazing finish! -- the achievement of a lifetime for Bardet and the master shows the apprentice how to win. You've got to figure Van Den Broek is in for a big pay raise (green jersey, white jersey, most combative, 2nd place..as a debutante!). Bardet was super chill afterward -- what a badass. Nilsen Powless said after the race nobody in the peleton wanted to pull so they had to. this is racing at its best. vamos!

@@kokonanana1 Jonas Abrahamsen starved himself to be a light climber some years ago,it was so bad that he stopped growing, but 4 or 5 years ago he startet eating a lot, grew up 5 cm taller and 20 kg heavier. His watt/kg dropped a bit but his total watt increased. Whats nice is that he proves that going superfast uphills is possible without starving yourself to beeing superlight.

TDF looking like it’s living up the the hype. Thanks for your tactical oversight. You must be a butterfly with Eagle Eyes

Hey Chris, what do you think of Bardet's take on the switch of his mindset; from a prudent GC-oriented to a more spontaneous approach. Because you won La Vuelta near the end of your career, I wondered if you'd struggled with similar thoughts before your glorious win.

UAE decided themselves to not chase anymore, and in my eyes they also did not look that strong. They tried to test Jonas, but Pollitt, Wellens, Soler and Sicakov did not do any real damage, the groupware still huge when they were done. Ayuso almost got dropped. So that only leaves Pog, Yates and Almeida. If anything this was a boost for Visma. At first they only came to the front to set a pace they liked after UAE stopped riding. Then at the end they chased a bit but did not actually empty the tank. Wout clearly felt better than he expected, Jonas was fine. Kelderman had his usual crash but did not break any bones. They are probably very pleased.

Visma won 2 last TDF by keeping the presssure and tempo on all stages. They missed the stage win by second. They got some answers and the form of WVA and Vingo.

Chris - one other question mark about Visma riding is they came within a few seconds of riding Tadej into a time bonus.

What was the EF tactic in that stage? I literally have no clue why would they would chase Healy down and then have him work? The front two were stronger than anyone expected, but once that became clear, why didn’t Healy just sit up and hide in the group? He’s a guy that can realistically win a stage and now he’s burned a huge amount of energy for nothing.
