Very well riding by Visma-LAB: 1) everybody did his part today and saved energy when the job was done. 2) They worked as a team (inspired by the book Legacy by James Kesrr) 3) they were in front not to get the group in the front back, but to have the distance 4) both times they were in position at the start of the hard climb, knowing it was going to be small. Finally: Impressive how Vingegaard is riding, considering the crash earlier this year.

Great summary of an exciting stage. Looks like Vingegaard was sandbagging everyone at least a bit. He looks like he has the legs early but it’s a long 3 weeks and he did miss some training. Pogacar was on the offensive but at the end it looked like he didn’t want yellow just yet. Be interesting to see if it changes UAE strategy if he’s still in yellow at the end of the day tomorrow. It was Evenepoel that was spectacular on this stage. It looked like he was dropped a couple of times but he just magically reappeared with the leaders when it counted. Great stage.

I’m not tactician, but I feel that this has always been the plan for UAE. That’s why they brought all the climbers. Today They are testing JV. They are just testing the team, only Jonas could hold his wheel. In the mountains I feel that UAE is gonna consummate this plan and do to JV what jumbo Visma did to TP. Isolate and attack. Visma can no longer cover that attack. It’s only a matter of time till JV can’t hold it. Remco is remco. He’s gonna keep doing what he’s doing fall out of the favorites. MANY theories can be had but only reality of each stage show how that theory hold up. Last 2-3 years have been best Tdf´s in my memory and this years first two stages have been best start stages in TdF history in my opinion (NEVER another 1st stage TT again in my opinion). That Pogocar had heightened Covid values 2 weeks before the start and Jonas had his awful crash in April makes these two first stages even more impressive for both. There are no givens. Only time will tell if both reach Paris.

When you have the yellow jersey, it's also a huge target marked in yellow for you. In a 4 horse race like this, and the quality of the field, it may not be the wisest to get yellow so early in the race. It's is a game of fox and hounds. Tadej may not want to be the "fox" so early in the Tour.

They hardly worked together. Jonas did the bare minimum to not look completely soft and come under fire from fans (has already happened before) or worse, piss Tadej off enough for him to comment post-race. Jonas’s legs were just fine to contribute to a meaningful rotation. He just never does. Maybe he’s smarter tactically over 3 weeks, but he’s boring and irritating to watch sometimes. Jonas is passive and sheepish (always looking over his shoulder; practically paranoid) and relies on team guidance vs. instinct and full-send commitment. He “pulled” today to “save face”. Tadej was clearly not happy with Jonas’s initial reluctance to pull at all.

@ghcheong5 ай бұрын
This stage does matter. If you look at the course, the closest stage that matters to this one is stage 4. And we have all seen Tadej dropped on Col du Gulibre in stage 11 in 2022. Jonas has a better ability to grind up these long mountains than Tadej does, so Tadej needed to put the hurt on Jonas on explosive stages like this. Besides, tomorrow is a flat stage. Neither Jonas nor Tadej will be contesting for the stage tomorrow, leaving Jonas more time to recover.

@@ghcheong At most, Pogi could only have gained a handful of seconds on today's stage. The fact that UAE didn't all come to the front on the climb and the fact that Pogi attacked almost at the top of the climb, tells me that they didn't consider this an important stage. If Pogi is not able to gain time in the big mountains, there's very little chance he can win.

Pogi has now missed 2 out of 3 chances the first week - and Vingegaard previously dominated Pogi in week 2 and 3. Well I'm glad Pogacar has the Yellow Jersey, but today's stage was not a hard finish to drop Vingegaard enough so of course he can follow Pogacar up the 3rd category climbs and then flat the rest of the way. No doubt Vingegaard has form right now on flat roads and little climbs, but Pogacar attacking made no sense to me cause it was flat after he attacked like how is he gonna gain time on Vingegaard 😂 I think we need to see how Vingegaard does up an actual mountain finish and can he not get dropped from Pogacar up a mountain. Other than that I'm glad it worked out either way but he could have saved energy since it was a flat finish and he wasn't gonna lose Vingegaard.🤨🦋🦋

Now don’t get me wrong, this shows some form from both as they did manage to gap everyone but Carapaz (lol 😂.. Pog tried to slow at the last to give yellow to Remco....Pog will win at the end, but he does not need or want yellow so early with so many GC with same time

Jonas has some that’s for sure. Pogi too 🇫🇷🔥🦋👊💪

Could Tadej & Jonas not keep away from the other GC riders? Or did Jonas slow it down because he wants other teams helping him chase Tadej in further stages? Or is it something else?
@J-cz7yv5 ай бұрын
They just slowed. I wouldn’t read into it too much other than that.
@Red5StayOnTarget5 ай бұрын
I don’t think Jonas was actually pulling hard or even long enough. Which caused Tadej to slow up. I think it was foolish not to really gap the other gc contenders.
@user-sj1hz9qw3e5 ай бұрын
@dorianwaller8796 yep jv only went hard when he and primoz were trying to drop kuss in spain
@ChrisHornerCycling5 ай бұрын
Jonas was especially carefully (very smart of him) not to over do it. So Pogi backed off also (very smart of him also). Then Remco and Carapaz made it. 👊👊🇫🇷🔥
@DavidDudley-yy2ui5 ай бұрын
@@Red5StayOnTarget I agree it did JV no good, they probably could have made a gap that remco could not close.
@DanielSchönfeld-n6u5 ай бұрын
The big question IMO will be whether at least two of Ayuso, Almeida and Yates are stronger than Matteo Jorgensen. Because then they can distance Jorgensen with at least 3 riders of UAE incl Pogi at the front. they can play the games with JV and he needs to follow these attacks because they can also be a threat for the yellow jersey.

It's to soon yet to get a more definitive picture of the brutal fights that will arrive on the 2nd week, must wait to the much longer climbs to see if Jonas could really fight t'il the last stage of this tour !!! 21st stage ITT 34,4 km which includes a category 2 climb !!! All this after more than 3500 km !?!?

In the end, Pog didn’t want the yellow so soon. UAE will now be under pressure.

If he finished two places behind Remco tomorrow then he will lose yellow. If you can place a bet on Remco crossing the line before Pog on stage 3 then hammer that bet. Put your house on it! And please let me know if you find that bet lololol

Correct....Pog admitted this to Remco, as he hoped Remco would get the yellow because he slowed at the last....look at JB2

I don't expect too much from stage 4, with the long descent finish I doubt GC riders will attack in the climb 100%. Probably only if one of the other GC riders starts losing time, that might motivate the others to go all out, but I wouldn't be surprised if they all stay together over the top.

Chris, we saw the same from Tadej last year though. Started strong than in weeks 2-3 he faded. I suspect the same to happen to Jonas due to the crash and not racing or having his full training schedule

Experts expect Vingegaard to get stronger for every day of racing. Time will tell...
@matthillard93635 ай бұрын
@@meibing4912exactly. Same story as last year. Hot weather and big climbs aren't tadej's best friends. Jonas gets stronger. It'll come down to team support and riding smart. We know when jonas goes on the big climbs he can gain minutes on pog. These early punchy stages, I thought pog would be gaining time and applying pressure. I seeing there is a sickness in the uae squad atm as pog said he was sick before the race started and had just gotten over it. Almeida and ayuso hanging back just doesn't make sense. Stage 4 will reveal what's going on
