Durant’s abilities I believe are based on studies on ant colonies: 60% are normal workers (Swarm Ability), 20% are hard workers (Hustle Ability), and 20% are lazy (Truant Ability) 🐜

Hence why it is a hidden (rare) ability, but even then Durant can actually make use of it thanks to Entrainement (really good for the battle subway). P.S: the % seem to be even more skewed, only 3% are always active, 72% are only active 50% of the time and a good 25% are always inactive.

I honestly though it was a reference to the fact that ants take sever short 2/3 minute naps throughout the day, being efficient workers because of this.

Don't forget that Litleo has the worst hidden ability in Moxie since it is a special attacker

@@9timepokechamp Yes it doesn't make sense purely game play wise, but pokemon is not a rigid 100% for a gameplay series. Abilities are supposed to characterize the Pokemon (just like their typing, name and movepool would). Just like you said, Litleo is a special attacker, so it having Moxie (overconfidence) shows exactly how it is overconfident. "When they’re young, they live with a pride. Once they’re able to hunt prey on their own, they’re kicked out and have to make their own way." They want to get physical, when it is not how they should hunt. They also lose that ability once they evolve, after learning to fight properly and abandoning their pride : " Once the Litleo mature, they will leave the pride and set out on their own" Not making sense gameplay wise (on a spreadsheet) doesn't mean that it makes no sense period (that's something a lot of people, and weirdly enough, young game designers seems to forget).

For the Truant ability, someone told me the only way to get it is through the Dream World, and an ant's dream is to be lazy.

Ants are in a hivemimd, meaning their only goal and dream is to collect food and defend for the colony Lugia is a psychic type because the developers wanted lugia to feel stronger, and back then psychic was the best type in the game

@@Hoysoy4141 Fair. As I said, the truant dream explaination was a reach. But it still has logic(very little to be fair) compared to Lugia's psychic type, which makes no sense. They could have easily took away some of it's attack stat and put it into it's special attack stat to make it hit harder, or made it flying/dragon type.

male ants only are meant for mating and dont do anything else so truant is refrenced for the male ants during alate season, i have kept ants before and i have seen the alates just chillin and doing nothing and being lazy doesnt always equate to males, all males are alates, but there are some alate femals which become queens so gamefreak should just make the HA truiant because alate ants are a litttle rare

I mean, its secret ability should be “Magnezone’s Levitate” in Pokémon Violet. Metagross’s ability that should be able to have is Sturdy. Metagross’s legs have claws, which have been used to stand firmly on the ground. Metagross should also have “Levitate” because metagross CAN levitate.

Cloud 9 probably stops the rain because rain is associated with the feeling of sadnes. So their happiness stops the sadness or sunshine stopping the rain

Durant’s distribution of Hustle and Truant abilities reflect the distribution in an ant colony of hard workers/lazy ants. Some are just lazy and don’t do work.

For the levitating magnezone laventon says it has magnetism with the ground to "levitate" so its tied with what happens to the ground.

Magnetom isnt levitating, its a magnet and relly to the ground to levitate, similar to how magnet wont connect to other magnet at somepoint

Cloud nine in Japanese is just called no weather and it doesn't get rid of weather it just stops power boosts, 100% accurate thunder, solar beam from being a 1 turn move, and the damage from hail or sandstorm.

Magnezone and the rest of the Magnemite line doesn't get levitate cause it's using the Earth's magnetic field to float around. It's a good way of balancing this pokemon since it already has good defensive typing, and plus, it learns magnet rise.

To explain truant, it is not for a pun. I have kept carpenter ants and honeypot ants and I think I have the knowledge to debunk the pun theory. Basically once a year for a couple months the queen ant doesnt lay eggs containing worker ants, a different kind of ant called an alate. These alates do absolutely nothing until it is mating season. Then they take to the sky with their wings and mate. The male alates die off and the females become new queens. The reason durant has truant is to reference the alate ants that don't do any work for the colony and just are meant to mate. I should also mention that males are 100% alates, they never are worker ants. But there are some species of ants that dont need queens and kinda nominate a worker to lay eggs, but in that case they still need male alates to mate with the nominated worker and because there seems to be no durant queen, I think gamefreak should just change it so that only male durants get truant. I hope that help clear up the air a little bit!

Slaking also has Truant, but im prwtty sure it has two purposes. Not only is Slaking based off of a sloth, but he also has stats that rival the literal box legendarys for the games he was introduced in. Therefore, it also helps balance him out.

Archeops has the highest stats of all the fossils being 567 and Pokémon like Beedrill and the Porygon line fly/float while still being hit by ground type moves, sometimes Pokémon just aren’t high enough off the ground to avoid those moves.

Archeops has defeatist to balance him out. Most people don't realize his base stat total is far beyond that of all other fossil Pokémon before gen 8, so without Defeatist, Archeops would've been objectively better than any other fossile Pokémon from gen 1 to gen 6
