@@Andrea-uc6rg Every game since Gen 3 you can complete what you can do in Sword & Shield, i.e. completing the Regional Dex (200 in RSE, 150 FRLG, 150 in DP, 210 in Pt, 256 (?) in HGSS, 152 in BW, 297 in B2W2, 450+ in XY, 300 for SM, 400 in USUM, 400 in SwSh) -- what you can't is completing the National Dex (i.e. the true meaning of "gotta catch em all" historically speaking) which was possible one way or another before.

The Hoenn region is my favorite. I had lots of fun when i played Ruby. The music is amazing and if i could live in any region, it would be Hoenn. I hope they make a remake in the near future when the games get better. I would definitely spent money to be able to see Hoenn in a more spectacular way. I usually always end up having Hoenn pokemon in my team when available.

Ruby was my jam. Trick (auto) bikes and speed (mach) bikes, puzzles with obscure solutions you had to use the Internet to figure out, customizable Clubhouses, diving to search for treasure, double battles, contests, berry farming, and all the Pokemon could be transferred through all the way to the current generation. I still have my original Groudon, with all the ribbons from Ruby... every last one.

No, they remade those for Gameboy Advance/DS, so you'll have to replay them to get pokemon from those.

+Relentless They rereleased red and blue on 3ds and they're Pokemon bank compatible, so yes, you can transfer any Pokemon you catch in red/blue/yellow to the current gens. And most likely they'll rerelease silver and gold aswell so you'll be able to do the same for those aswell.

I actually quite like the underwater route. Dive is one of my favorite water-type moves too, even though its power is only 60. I'm a bit dissapointed though they only have three underwater pokémon in this game. 😅 And why bother selling dive ball in the pokémart if there are only three underwater pokémon? The first time I played, I didn't know this, so I bought 10 dive balls, hoping to caught some different underwater pokémon. In the end, I should've just bought some netballs. 😅

Just saying, all the complaints aside, Ruby and Saphire were meant to be reboots completely. But due to massive demand for the 1-250, they decided to return them. Gold Silver and Crystal were going to be the final Pokemon games originally. This can explain quite a bit of this, like the jump from 8 bit to 32 bit, which prevents the games from reading the 8 bit Pokemon. Just saying

ProtoMario Not really. It was a change in the 31IV system from the old 17DV system. Stats were incompatible, for example RSE gave gender its own value whereas GSCRBY required a Pokémon to have a DV of something like 7 or less to be a female. The stat system since RSE has been largely untouched. Ken Sugimori, the chief designer also had enough designs to last the first four generations.

+king of games and anime No that's not the reason they did the no transfer thing. in 1st and 2nd gen stats were calculated with DVs witch also determined if a pokemon would be shiny or not. And the EV system worked differently, letting you max out every stat. In gen 3 and beyond, DVs were changed to IVs which did NOT determine if a pokemon was shiny instead using a complicated math equation that used yore trainer ID instead. And EVs were changed so you can only put a max 252 EVs points in 2 stats with 4 (or 6 for max training) EVs in one stat. Along with natures being introduced that up one stat be 10% and lowering another by 10% and 5 do nothing. So trying to transfer a pokemon with more than 510 EVs that have DVs and not IVs and not having a nature would be EXTREMLY complicated to program a way to change it all especially if the mon had more than 510 EVs. Also the Super Gameboy 2 in japan let you connect (In theory) a GBA game to a GB game, having the same port for both on it. Go to Bulbapidia for more info if you want.

I would say the data might not be 100% reliable. Back when gen 1 came out, most people bought in store. When they finished playing it or got out of the game, it was tucked away. Now, many people get the used or pirated games which result in fewer sales. There are enough people who play the game and resell it within weeks because they finished it. Another thing is, video game sales, in general, have gone down. If you want to know how a game is doing, compare it to other modern games. For example, X & Y out sold Grand Theft Auto.

Jason Gunn-Davis If you like pokemon because of the brand instead of the content, then you'd love Gen 1 over some of the later gens. Mainly because Gen 1, for all intents and purposes, was a broken mess of a game. I grew up with Gen 1, and honestly looking back it's kind of terrible over all. Gen 2 greatly improved upon Gen 1, and gen 1 over all was extremely buggy, unbalanced, and just a broken mess of a game. Some of the designs from gen 1 aren't that great at all, and the pokemon in general are pretty shitty. Honestly them making a gen 3 remake of it was a godsend. Even if it wasn't that much different. There are things to like in later games, and yes while the original formula is sort of the same, they've been making to mix it up in later generations.

What they got wrong: 1) There were plenty of the original Pokemon in the games. 2) The contests were optional, so "unskippable" is kinda misleading. 3) Re-challenging trainers is widely expanded upon and improved. This is a huge development over Gold and Silver, which was flawed in one huge way: grinding was a pain in the ass. Ruby and Sapphire made grinding much easier, which in my opinion made it superior to Gold and Silver because it was less tedious. 4) The transferring thing wasn't the games' fault. The original DV systems was kinda broken and 3rd gen was when Nintendo started thinking of competitive, so one game would eventually have to bite the bullet. 5) You can catch 'em all if you get multiple games. This is true for every Pokemon game. Granted, it's way harder in this gen, which is a legitimate problem they should've brought up. Either they didn't know or were too lazy and decided misinforming 3 million people was fine. 6) The phone was returned in Emerald, which they should have at least mentioned. Additional Notes: 1) They were kinda dicks towards these games, and there certainly isn't a shortage of people who like these games. 2) Day Night cycle was kinda a pain, so I'm glad they took it away. I don't understand why waiting for 5 hours to complete your PokeDex is good design to them. 3) Really? You're ragging on this gen's Pokemon with friggin Muk and Voltorb floating around gen 1? All in all, I'm kinda annoyed that Smosh Games is misinforming so many people about so many games. And not just this one. Hearthstone, League, etc. And in Diamond and Pearl, they're just shitting on Pokemon in general, it's free money for them, sure. But they still put effort into them. I don't dislike Honest Game Trailers, I just wish they were more informed. They accuse Nintendo of milking a series, but they do the same with absolute shitty quality when it comes to Honest Game Trailers.

Generally I love Honest Trailers because they usually absolutely nail everything when it comes to making fun of movies, TV shows, or games. But this just seemed like an extremely butthurt Gen-Wunner parodying Generation III. Let's do some counter-analysis, shall we? (1) "Comes another Pokemon sequel that 'doesn't quite do that'." *Actually, as someone who started playing Pokemon in Generation II (Silver) and then moved backward, I thought that RSE were superior games across the board. There is certainly something to be said of the gradually decreasing difficulty level of Pokemon games since the second gen, but RSE had everything I wanted in a Pokemon game, and then some. The addition of 135 new Pokemon (much more than were added in Gen II), a much more intuitive box storage system, Abilities, Natures, IV/EV changes, Double Battles, no more 8-bit chiptune music, seven of the best legendary Pokemon to ever exist, and even a clever message about environmentalism, both in taking it too far and in failing to acknowledge it.* (2) "You got addicted to the first two games. Now, experience your first taste of franchise fatigue." *I played probably 900 hours on average of Silver version alone. Collectively in RSE, I played a surplus of 3000. I never had as much fun playing Pokemon as I did in Gen III. Additionally, these games were the ones that were remade for 6th Generation 3DS hardware, not the originals. Sure, that was the predictable order Nintendo was going in, but in my next point, I'll explain why that is.* (3) "... key features removed, and a huge drop-off in sales..." *Which ones? The times of day? See "Shoal Cave", etc. The annoying "getting randomly called by somebody I battled weeks ago for them to tell me something useless"? Replaced by the PokeNav, which allowed you to battle other trainers again for some free experience and nostalgia of your original battle with them. Puzzles (like from the Unown Caves)? The eight gym badge? How about all those impossible-to-figure out Regi puzzles involving Relicanth/Wailord, Braille, standing in place for 2 minutes straight, etc.? Climbing Sky Pillar?* *Also, what huge drop-off in sales? Ruby and Sapphire were, together, the best selling Gameboy Advance games of all time, and Emerald did nothing more than accentuate that fact. And unlike say, Gen I, the first of its kind, and Gen II that was carried on the back of the anime that had come out just two years before release, Gen III took a huge risk not focusing on either Johto or Kanto at all, nor many of the classic 'Mons. And yet, huge success.* (4) "Starring, 22 badass Pokemon, and 113 others..." *Last time I checked, as someone who has played this game competitively and continues to buy the games when they come out not for brand or title but to see what's changed and whether I should keep playing them, Generation III has more useful Pokemon in it alone than Gen I and II do combined. Let's begin with the starters: Typhlosion < Charizard < Blaziken. Feraligatr < Blastoise < Swampert. Meganium > Sceptile > Venusaur. Well, that's one in your favor, Gen Wunners. Best legendaries? Mewtwo is certainly still the best, but Gen III has three close seconds (which are now even better thanks to ORAS).* Other than that, none of the jabs were particularly "incorrect", although most of the criticisms that can be made of the games are applicable to all Pokemon versions. I won't defend Pokemon for how formulaic and asininely childish it can be at times, but as time has gone on, Pokemon has evolved and changed for the better consistently (something you cannot say for most Japanese and American game franchises, i.e. Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Sonic the Hedgehog, and even Nintendo's own extensive Mario-related games). - _A mildly displeased long-time Pokemon fan_.

Griffin Wheeler Yeah Johto was the shit, i definitely like the following mechanic and the new features on the DS, but overall the original gold/silver/crystal was better in my opinion. It just has that epic feel to it, when you fight Clair, Lance, Red etc.. you're just HANGING on every second begging for a crit to happen lol. The fact that they added in Kanto as a post game region was absolutely genius too. Being able to go back and get the original badges and to see how the gym leaders have grown and changed in that time was great. Although being able to fight yourself from the older game (red) was definitely the biggest OMG plot twist ever, the only one that really compared was finding out Giovanni was the Viridian Gym Leader possibly, but still not on that level.

I mean in the last generation had you go to the region from the last game and, while not new, explore it. Ruby & Sapphire just gave you Battle Tower to fight through, which at the time was the equivalent to getting a gold star.
