"Depleted" is a typical military euphemism. The uranium is still very radioactive and causes massive birth defects for generations, like it is doing in Iraq. And 'handling' is not the same as the nanoparticles sprayed into the landscape that result at the target. Ukraine is the victim of US geopolitics. The US caused the putsch in 2014, facilitating the persecution of Russians in the Donbas giving Putin the excuse / reason for war. Yes the Russians are only in the Donbas because Stalin put them there, but then that's what invaders often do e.g Hitler's Sudetenland, or Britain's Northern Ireland.

T-55 tanks against Leopard, Challenger, or Abrams...I've seen that outcome before and it's completely one-sided. The T-55 employs a 100mm gun that can't penetrate any of the western tanks armor. It doesn't have an autoloader so every time a turret is ejected that's 4 dead Russians. They could be effective against IFVs but will be outmatched in optics and range of ATGMs.

Very well said. I have watched with dismay as some in the west denigrate the Ukrainians.They are so quick to move on that they blame the Ukrainians for putting up a fight. To them, Ukraine is an inconvenience to their comfortable lives.If Ukraine were properly armed(in numbers and qualities), the fewer they wd have to die. The west shud know that they are in a war with russia(and soon, china) whether they like it or not.They might as well just get on with it, and behave like a people at war.

@@lucschoesetters4307 ATGMs work both ways, and the Ukrainians will find that mines are as effective against their attacks as they have been against those of the Russians. In à counteroffensive Ukraine will attack into the worlds largest artillery park without indirect fire parity or the luxury of using bodies to weight the attack. There’s a terrible hard road ahead. Regime overthrow in Russia is more likely than the prospect of forcibly ejecting Russia from the occupied Donbas and Crimea. Also, those who survive learn. Much of the early carnage was Russia expecting little resistance and attempting to carry out combat tasks with tanks and insufficient infantry. Armies don’t make the same mistakes endlessly; the Russians have corrected their infantry shortage, while Ukraine has much more limited manpower. The war will depend upon Ukraine establishing maneuver warfare since Russia will win a grinding match.

21:00 to 40:30 is frontline first person observation. His observation that Ukraine cannot attack in the same way as the Russians is pointed and accurate: they can’t manage artillery parity, much less superiority, and don’t have the men to mount attritional attacks with infantry. They must somewhere establish operational maneuver for success, and this is problematic . They will at least have suitable equipment; the problem will be assembling sufficient mass.
@chrishooge3442

As much as I want to laud the Ukrainians. I'm gobsmacked the Russians have performed so poorly. The Russians are using artillery indiscriminately and without tactical purpose. It's wasteful of ammunition and they don't appear to be able to use artillery to facilitate or support maneuver. It's even worse in the air. I trained against Soviet-era tactics and this doesn't look anything like what I'm familiar with. I suspect they've lost the ability to plan and coordinate above the Battalion level. The sheer number of general officers that have died suggests they don't have effective staffs or subordinate commanders necessitating they put themselves in harm's way to exercise command.

It's such a false dichotomy, the peace dividend from the end of the Cold War was not spent on expanded social spending, it was spent on higher wealth and income inequality. It was spent on lower taxes for the well-off. The welfare state of most western countries has not been dramatically expanded since 1991. Thatcherite/Reaganite thinking on welfare states was already well-established by 1991 and it has remained the dominant view of politicians throughout the post-Cold War era (witness Macron's pension "reform" for example). Western welfare state programs have not become more lavish since 1991 and, it can be argued, they've become less permissive. The Cold War militaries were not paid for by bad social programs, the militaries were paid for by taxes (not just on rich people ofc since the lower wealth inequality caused by WW2 meant that the middle income quintiles were relatively quite wealthy).

@@markpavlowski7223 Is the increase in the European hot & cold water bills, electricity, gas, utilities, food, clothing, entertainment, travelling, eating out etc. is huge? Not, yet? It's alright. This is just the beginning. The western parasites, wanting 'cheap' Russian resources, have been paying an unbearable price for the survival of the illegal Kiev regime, set up by the American politicians (Obama, Biden, Nuland) through the bloody coup and with the US budget money in 2014. Keep up wasting your wealth and health and losing to the Chinese and Asian businesses!

Frances’s report was so sad, the poor guys fighting for their existence will suffer massive CPTSD when they have won. It is also terrible that Russians will experience the same when they lose but with a realisation that they had been conned. My heart goes out to their nation.

So Generals and other military experts from Ukraine + Western countries are not as smart as this last reporter and his anecdotal facts?It`s true that a lot depends on how Ukrainians use what they have wisely in the coming year.But this reporter seems to be pessimistic to a degree that he sounds more like a Russian blogger.He definitely has no inside information of any planned counter offensive and I would ask him if the Russians are really getting better on how they attack or defend for that matter. I think he thinks they are but where is the evidence?It is true that Russia has Ukraine out gunned at the present time but how does this "reporter" know about the current state of the Russian army? It is true that Ukrainian troops at the front are having a hard time of it in Bakhmut and I think it is a mistake by Ukraine they haven`t repositioned out of the city but I would trust Ukraine`s intelligence services more than this guy`s intelligence.

Not at the cost of denial, if it’s accurate. It’s also possible that it is one individual’s impression of a limited area; the old tale of three blind men describing an elephant by touching parts of it comes to mind.

Evidence of shell rationing is clear , the interval between missile blitzes on civilian infrastructure has lengthened considerably, the number of missiles used in each volley is reduced and we have Prigozhin screaming on record for more shells and complaining about lack of them , so this gentleman’s assertion is unduly pessimistic in view of the evidence. It’s clear that the reporter has been badly affected by his experience (as anyone would be).
