This is so freaking cool! I know it's not the most advanced concept, but it reminds of how cool step sequencing can be and also breaks down how it works in the context of the grid. I love it! Great video!

After years of messing about and getting nowhere on Ableton, I am SO glad I bought bitwig, I think I might actually be able to make real finished tracks, finally... this grid is amazing and if it weren’t for you I wouldn't know about any of this. THANK YOU!

If Bitwig added an option to save the buffer data of the array to the project or external file - that would be a real game changer! Looking forward this feature.

Ahh! I can't believe how confused I was about how to make an array work. All this time I was trying to choose a real value between 0..1. 😢 also helpful was seeing how to implement a button like trigger. I've been a software engineer for decades and even developed two different visual programming languages and these elements have had me frustrated for a while. Thank you!

This analogue circuit paradigm illustrates the beautifully logical consistency of Bitwig. This consistency is a compelling selling point on its own. In practice however, implementing a "def map_midi_note(...)" callback in a lightweight script editor would be far more usable.

I don't understand why they haven't implemented a step record function in the piano roll though as do all the other daws, unless I am missing something?
@PolarityMusic2 күн бұрын
good question
@EscDogAlt2 күн бұрын
My theory is there are a lot of DAWs out there that would take Bitwig years to reach feature parity with. Meanwhile, no one needs yet another DAW that does the same thing as all the others. Instead, they spend their development budget on doing things differently and better. And doing things no other DAW has done. Isn't that why some of us are fans of the software? If I need another feature I go back to something else like Sonar or Reaper. Bitwig makes it rather easy to jump between multiple DAWs.
@mudi2000a2 күн бұрын
@@EscDogAltwhile this is true and I did not really miss it, step recording is a super basic feature that even primitive hardware sequencers and the very first version of Cubase on the Atari already had.
@NuwandaBoy2 күн бұрын
@@mudi2000a my thought exactly, the feature is too basic and simple for the developers to overlook it

The ''trouble' with Bitwig is that there's usually work arounds and with the Grid there's just so many options. But yes it could be a button on/off.

Very cool, but I heard a few blips and bloops when adding new notes in real time. Perhaps a MIDI Quantizer before the Note Grid?

I love this!! Are there any ways to manipulate the read phase to get variations of the pattern? I used a selector with a mapped trigger button to switch between regular and reversed phase-that much worked!

@ ahh perfect thanks!!! That bit about changing the array size is what I was missing
@womagrid2 күн бұрын
Yes it can do everything but unfortunately in recent versions it's very easy to paint yourself into a corner and run out of DSP power. Even bouncing and deactivating tracks doesn't always help because so many devices are now dependent on the grid, which seems to do some kind of instance sharing in the background. So, it can be very difficult to figure out exactly what is using the DSP.

Cool stuff! It would be a great feature to be able to save the array data in the project. I wonder if there’s a way to record to a steps module and keep data that way?

@@PolarityMusic Thanks this seems like a workaround, although it would be hard to play C0 in tandem with other keys. Gets me thinking perhaps with modulation you can trigger the note at a desired step.
