Thanks to Bjorn's reviews, I ordered a Polestar 2 LR SM. I got my Polestar 2 a week ago. Yesterday did a 435 mile trip (700 km) at an average of 59mph (95km/h) Temperature was a steady 12 degs C all day. Energy consumption according to trip computer averaged 30.7 kWh/100 miles (307 Wh/mile, 190 Wh/Kilometre) Very impressed as I was trying to drive as close to 70mph all the time on mostly motorway,

11:25 i really think thats a good point speaking about the whole wire-touching-screen thing. When i used to work at a tyre shop/scrap yard the amount of crazy shit like dashcams, phone chargers & even the odd christmas lights were lazily installed with wires hanging everywhere. It would be interesting to see if polestar will come up with a solution. They seem to have the coldgate thing under control so who knows.

@@thomtheunissen5827 The XC40 just like the Polestar have always been capable of charging at 150kW (theoretically) - the main difference is the shape of the charging curve which remains at this peak much longer, resulting in shorter charging time overall. So yes, Polestar and Volvo are thirsty cars, but on a roadtrip, the charging speed compensates!

question: when driving 200 km driving 110km/h vs 90km/h saves 23 minutes. Would it be more efficient on long challenges like 1000km to drive 90km/h and have to charge less frequently? Or is driving "fast" and charging at supercharger overall faster?
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland 2 жыл бұрын
It's better to drive fast.
@habi0187
@habi0187 2 жыл бұрын
I find it funny that you talk about a high speed stretch when you are doing only 120 km/h. On the other hand I am German and I still can enjoy from time to time to speed up my old Saab to the 230 km/h it can do. Nice test I still struggle with the horrible decrease in range once you speed more than 120 in a electric vehicle.
@onedankind8168
@onedankind8168 2 жыл бұрын
120 is fastest legal (often still 10-20 km over) most places. It's a fair test.
@habi0187
@habi0187 2 жыл бұрын
@@onedankind8168 I didn't say the test was not fair. I am well aware that we here in Germany are have the unique opportunity to drive as fast as we want. Considering this it just sounds strange to me that people talk about high speed at a level that's at the lower end of what you normally experience. Here most of the people go between 140 and 160 as relaxed speed. Who wants to drive fast is doing around 200 and from time to time someone who tries to go to the limits of his car passes you with something between 250 and 300. I think Tom Hanks in an interview said that it doesn't matter how fast you go there is always one who wants to go faster.
@onedankind8168
@onedankind8168 2 жыл бұрын
@@habi0187 I know. I just meant it's a fair test because it applies to the majority of places. Would be interesting to see higher speed tests though. Because lest be honest people always drive faster anyways. Even though like I said 120km is still above the speed limits.
@habi0187
@habi0187 2 жыл бұрын
@@onedankind8168 I agree that the test condition is fair and valid for a lot places. However I find it funny that electric vehicles quite often come with very high horse power figures but on the Autobahn you almost never see them going on normal speed. They quite often drive at speeds of about 120 km/h and I spoke to a Tesla driver some time back and he confirmed that the consumption goes dramatically up at speeds above 120 and that it makes really significant difference if he goes 120 or let's say 150 or 160. It seems that EVs have a sweet spot at around this speed but you don't need 300 or even 500 hp to drive 120 most of the time. For this speeds 100 to 150 is more than enough. It looks like the industry is gaslighting the consumers anain.
@twaelti
@twaelti 2 жыл бұрын
@@habi0187 Nothing to do with EV - it's just that the air resistance goes up dramatically at higher speeds, same for ICEs. It's not a linear function, but a polynomial one. Going from 120 to 160 might add 30% to your consumption - reducing your range by 25% or so

I think the Polestar looks much better and feels more special. I also prefer the interior of the Polestar 2 and I think it's more comfortable to drive. However Polestar 2 has quite high energy usage and it's lacking access to the super charger network as of now (may change soon). Charging peaks at 145 kW -> "e-tron go home" ?!? Audi e-tron will charge at 150 the whole way up to 80%. I could understand such a statement on an IONIQ 5 with charging peak at 225 kW but not when the Polestar just gets kinda close. Next thing I don't understand is: Why is the car in "turtle mode" when it still has 8% left? That's approx. 6kWh which should be enough for 25 - 30 km. Some Plug-In Hybrids have barely that much battery capacity and can still provide full power (as long as the battery is warm - which is obviously the case with the Polestar 2).
