Dude! It's the truth. Try sailing. The other day I went through 65 knot winds on anchor. Was doing great. Holding great for hours. Storm was almost ready to let up. But I had a bagged sail lashed on my bow. I went and secured it a couple times. Could have easily pulled it down below and rode out the rest of the storm. But I left it there (hard/dangerous to walk on the foredeck with the wind). So after a few minutes the wind gets into the sail bag and balloons it up, then rips the bag off, then runs that headsail up the forestay (who would have thought this could happen? But it did.) So there we are, in 65 kts wind and under sail. Rip, Clunk. What's that? Oh that is our ground tackle being ripped off the anchor (sails full in 12 knots wind are hugely powerful, try one full at 65 kts). Now we are adrift, no anchor, no steerage and working through a channel with 4 foot waves and crowded with docked charter boats. Why? Because I didn't take 2 minutes and hank off and stow that sail before the storm. Because the boat putting itself under sail is impossible, right?

As evidenced in the clip they have to follow a different protocol when it's another officer being arrested as there are going to be accusations of preferential treatment and bias and they know this, obviously they are right as that's exactly what's happening here in this comments section. This was a slow process as the first officers on scene realise the gravity of the situation and the potential PR and legal minefield this is (as they work with her) and end up calling more senior officers to the scene which in this case also consulted more senior officers who advised handing over the investigation to State Police so they could make the arrest. This took time to plan and time to get everyone on scene that was needed to proceed with an arrest that will hold up to scrutiny in court.

@Tindometari4 жыл бұрын
The only "special treatment" she's getting is that the LC cops are being very hands-off with her. And the reason they're being hands-off with her isn't "prifessional courtesy" or any attempt to get her off free. It's that once they knew she was a detective in their own force, they had to back off and turn the case over to the Staties. At this point, they were really doing nothing but maintain the safety of scene and suspect until the State landed. You can even hear them discussing this and the importance of avoiding even the appearance of bias -- and the best way to that is to dot i's and cross t's and have minimal interaction.

This is true of police work in general, but particularly true here. The best course is to back off and hand the investigation over to higher, independent authority at the earliest possible moment in order to provide minimal fuel for that fire. But of course, sincerity has no defense against cynicism. Witness the fact that *you* are cynically second-guessing the effort to leave nothing open to cynical aecond-guessing.

You get no arrest for DUI but you have to come with the police. Than there is some paperwork to do and the driver license have to given up. Than you have to pass a medical and psychological test, than get back the license.

South Beach Miami Art here in Germany if driving without a licence its a crime if get catch by the Police they doesnt arrest you, they get you comming to the Police station usually no handcuffs. Then usually go to Court and get a money punishment. Everything you do will be noted in a file. If driving Second time very drunk (over 1,6) or on drugs the driver license is again taken from you and you have to go again to the medical psychological test. If gets pass you got the license back. I read in forums from people that are busted many times and took 3 or more Tests to become the license back. It’s simple always possible getting It back if the head is ok and you are not too ill and are sober for a year and no alcoholic. But on the test you have to speak with psychological people and they have your file about all traffic elapse and if they see you are have quite a lot of drunk or drugged driving it’s harder. If you use the car as a weapon to kill people they can taken away the license for live long I think, but it’s very unusual.

Update: 578 days after her arrest, a judge dismissed drunken driving charges against a former Las Cruces Police detective, saying that her rights to a quick trial were violated. Third Judicial District Court Judge Douglas Driggers dismissed charges against Stephanie Carabajal, 27, citing numerous violations of Carabajal's right to a speedy trial. "It's not that the Attorney General has demonstrated intentional delay, but rather has clearly shown negligent administrative delay," Driggers said during his ruling. LCPD fired Carabajal in December 2019. The Law Enforcement Academy Board suspended her license in 2021. The state dropped charges against Carabajal previously to avoid violating her rights to a speedy trial. Charges were refiled shortly after. Fifteen months and one pandemic later, Carabajal's charges have now been dismissed again - this time with prejudice, meaning they cannot be refiled. 🤬🤦🏼♂️. This is the difference between LEOs and regular citizens justice Not equal. It took over 10 cops over 1 hour to remover her from the truck and arrest her. Over an hour and a half+ her truck was half on the highway and could have easily caused a major accident! It took until 2021 for her LEO license to be suspended (even though she was fired)! 🤬.. and good cops wonder why they are targets for the bad guys 🤦🏼♂️.

Melanie Renee as a cop she had a slight partial moment of clarity and realized she was in trouble so she moved to the passenger seat but didn't gamble on a witness following and staying with every detail that she was hoping wouldn't be seen. When she was soooo intoxicated. and unable to wake up but then suddenly calling her officer fitness name and asking who the white car was ,..she realized she didn't bank on that. When's he slipped back to drunk mode telligbher officer fireinds to eff off and telling them obviously there's no one else in the car! 😳 she probably needed to lie and say someone offeredto drive her home cause she was drunk and then drink too panicked and hi tailed it lol . I dinna, I just feel bad for her,.. if you look into the story she's going trough some serious shit in her life and these are 12 year friends and coworkers that don't want to be doing this BECAUSE they know what it is exactly she's going through. The main officer Ramirez is an honorable military vet that really tried to watch her 6 but the lady that stopped is the smoking gun that will end her career , retirement and pension for good. I feel aweful and can imagine where she's at and why she's hammered in the first place and if the people saying hang her to drive out themselves in their shoes and actually knew what's she's been going through in the 6 months prior to this, the comments may not be so heartless. Yes it sucks a police officer was drinking and driving , they shouldn't. Be and toonmany are lost in drunk driving accidents BUT I can tell you thenreason she's hammered isn't her fault at all. I mean it is. She chose to but the circumstance she's been in and the people involved have put her in a spot where she's turned to alcohol that night to not think about it,..and now her careers over too ontop of everything else she's been going through. . Poor girl. Anyone that has served in the military or as a Police officer understands and honestly while I'm greatful no one got hurt,..it breaks my heart that the next morning when she wakes up in the jail or captains office...and realizes she's now lost everything,..a career she's busted her ass in to get to detective at a young age, her retirement . And pension are gone and she will be fired and will never be hired by another agency for driving drunk . That's a Carrer ended for any officer. Best chance she has is moving across the country, to a small town in Nebraska, Northern Utah,..little town in Idaho. Or something and applying for a policee position ina. Tiny department. Her Detective rank and explanation of her life just beofor this may give her a change AT still being an officer somewhere small . Damn that sucks! She's essentially lost everything I. Her life in 6 months . Hopefully they put her on paid leave for a little while investigating becaue she's notnin angreat state and losing her job and being fired right now could put ehrnover the edge of no hope. And she doesn't deserve that for making a big mistake in a really shorty few months. It's easy to judge people im sure but I assure you you don't know the whole story,..the reason Ramirez started to panic essentially taking g her away form the other officer who didn't know her and puttin her in he car.

The “wait” or “stall” saved my ass when I was pulled over one of the handful of times I drove after drinking in my younger years. State patrol didn’t have a breathalyzer (don’t know why) , neither did the station (never found out why). I had to piss like a race horse at the station, but knew I was near the limit so I stalled, and after 2 hours of being force fed cups of water they became impatient. They took me to have my blood drawn at a hospital 45 minutes away. I was released to a friend. I called the DA’s office in this little podunk county 3 months later and he said charges were dropped after blood test came back at .06. I was likely .10 at the moment I was pulled over. 3 hour wait saved my ass. For the last 20 years, I’ve never driven home after drinking, even after one beer. I’ve always known the danger of drinking and driving, yet I still drank and drove 4-5 times when I was likely over the limit. I bet 75% of the drinking population has driven close to or over the limit. Not worth it. Look at this lady. “FUCK It. I’m drunk, let me pull over in the slow lane on the interstate and take a cat nap in my drunken stupor.” You have to be fucked up to do something t like that. She was toast. Probably .30% This detective’s action shows you just how strong of an effect can have on almost anyone.

I never understand how they're so proud to keep the streets safe when they get a drunk driver off the road, but, when it's another cop it's a "shitty position to be in"? "This isn't easy for any of us"? They talk much longer and she'll be sober by the time they hit the breathalyzer.
@tristramhurd70343 жыл бұрын
@I'm Just Me That cop wasn't very good at DUI stops then, since that allowed 4 drinks worth of alcohol to burn out of her system. The main point of my comment was that they celebrate when they get adrunk off the road, but, when it's another cop, they're all sad about it, and talk about how they don't want to do it. Why not say they are glad to have gotten their fellow officer off the road? he was just as dangerous. As far as your 4 claim of the wait to breathalyze, I'd have to see it for myself to see what the circumstances were - but in any event, it wasn't the main point of the comment.
@rhondanewman38493 жыл бұрын
They call other departments to help them so it is all above board. I too have seen videos where they have taken extra time with other people. The other reason it “isn’t easy for any of us” is because they hold each other higher than this. They should know better than to break the law that they uphold daily.

Wow! Total respect to that woman who just happened to see her that night and was genuinely concerned for her safety. That woman is an angel that was watching over her that night whether she realizes or not. That woman played a big part in this drunk lady being exposed. Could you imagine what that drunk detective could of made up if that woman never seen her get out of the drivers seat. There was already a caller that called in and said they saw a man by the truck puking, so this detective could of just stuck with the story that a man was driving and took off leaving her sitting in the passenger seat and she could of stuck to that story that she was never the driver and she probably would of gotten away with this. That woman being a live witness was such an important piece of the puzzle. The drunk detective didn’t deserve all the respect them officers showed her, she was disgusting and rude and loud in the beginning and showed them no respect at all. She talked to them all like shit at first then once she realized she was gonna be in deep shit she suddenly got nice. I’m glad she lost her job she deserved to. I’m sure no other agency would ever hire her again to be a cop/detective because this is on her record. She don’t deserve to ever have a job serving the public ever again. God knows how long how many other times during her career she did this and never got caught.
