In a suburb of Milwaukee, visitors to the Wisconsin State Fair could partake of pig races and deep-fried foods on a stick - and also talk politics with "Sunday Morning" senior contributor Ted Koppel, who asked Wisconsinites why they were backing their chosen candidates in the presidential election.

I'm a born and raised Midwesterner, grew up out in the Chicago suburbs. I've moved around a bit from being in the Navy and whatnot. But I've lived in Milwaukee for the past seven years. I'm a registered Democrat, a former Democratic Committee member (when I lived in PA) and still will vote BLUE. Personally, I'm progressive. I believe in social welfare, not corporate welfare. I believe that politicians should work for the best interest of THE PEOPLE, not corporate sponsors. I believe in personal autonomy, taking care of human LIVES, making sure everyone has AFFORDABLE housing, healthcare is a HUMAN RIGHT, and everyone should have access to education! I am ex-military, I do NOT believe civilians should have access to weapons of war. DJT only brings together those who don't think critically, believe that being on the side of a celebrity will somehow magically rub off on them. It doesn't, it won't, it can't. DJT is a criminal and deserves to be behind bars. He broke the law and encouraged an attempted coup and overthrow of our democratic government. Anyone who has ever visited Arlington National Cemetery and witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier should understand what that means. @@strong40 it’s a good question and I think the answer is very complex. One part of it is that the state doesn’t provide as much funding so students/parents have to pay for more. Another is private parties got into the student loan business and larger amounts were allowed to be borrowed through the program. Campuses are MUCH nicer as a result of building sprees that have to be paid for. That’s just a start.

@@MatthewLantz The Federal government has had almost a monopoly on financing student loans since 2010. Once again the government stepped in to try to fix a problem and the problem just continues. I think that colleges used to offer a decent product for their customers (students) several decades ago but now it is just a corporate equivalent "big college" scam selling overpriced classes and certificates

The idea is to forgive the excess interest, not the debt itself. Many have been paying for so many years that they have repaid the principle and some of the interest, but because of the high interest rate they still owe a lot. Cancel the outstanding balance for anyone who has repaid the principle and lower interest rates for those who have not yet.

The woman that objected to free college, does she also object to free high school? Free any school? Public schools did not always exist. They started with the elementary level, and it wasn’t until 1930 that every state required students to complete elementary school. Over time middle and high school was added. As the intelligence of most humans continues to increase, the level of public education needs to also increase.

That's a terrible lesson and direction for the country. Regardless of your ideologies or political affiliations, it is just not rational and not sensible to claim you do not like something when you do not even know what that thing means to you or to the real world. They actually gave a legitimate reason for why they’re voting Democrat-reproductive rights. This is unlike the woman who says she doesn’t like “woke”, but she has no clue what it is (this is because Fox News and other conservative news outlets are the only ones talking about that word anymore, using it as a derogatory thing without actually saying what it is). There should be a basic knowledge of facts test before being allowed to vote, especially for republicans.
