This one stings. The cast and crew of The Sopranos brought the absolute best out of Mr. Sirico as an actor. He inhabited the role of Paulie seamlessly and with conviction. His portrayal as a gangster is, IMO, the most complete and believable in film/TV history. He brought an authenticity and depth of character that is unmatched. His mannerisms, gestures, delivery, and idiosyncrasies were glorious to behold. He had the most memorable and quotable lines on the show by a country mile. My condolences to his family and friends. It is saddening to see how many cast members of The Sopranos have passed. I will treasure the moments of joy I got watching that show. Godspeed Mr. Tony Sirico.

Paulie's relationship with his mother (who turned out to be his aunt) shows that somewhere inside Paulie had human feelings underneath his mob-toughness. As viewers, we can somehow relate to these characters even though they are reprehensible mobsters and murderers, snuffing out lives seemingly untouched. The characters Paulie and Tony played off each other's flaws and strengths. The painting of Tony and his horse Pie-O-My, rescued and retouched for Paulie to make Tony a Napoleonic general - what a revealing sequence. Paulie (who hated to see the expensive painting trashed, a big waste of money) meant it as a compliment to his boss - and maybe an underhanded jibe as well. Paulie was naturally funny, even when he wasn't wise-cracking. The Sopranos was so much more than a saga on mob-violence thanks to brilliant writing and especially acting. Paulie Walnuts was one of my favorites.

Paulie Gualtieri, biggest ball breaker ever ... and the man never shut up, which alone was annoying as hell and enough to make us want to strangle him. Even in Tony's state of comatose unconsciousness, Paulie's personality had a negative effect on the nerves. There were a few times when we saw a glimmer of humanity shine through his hardened soul ... so while he was an asshole to the nth degree, maybe he wasn't completely heartless. Still, I never really trusted him. I questioned his loyalty to Tony throughout most of the series. In the end, The Sopranos left Paulie just as he always was ... alone and miserable.

He was probably one of the most loyal guys to Tony, he never done nothing behind his back. He had a soul but what do you expect in a job where you are killing and robbing for a living, not everyone will be humane.

+Angel Deville I think Paulie was one of the most loyal of them all actually, though I agree that he was a lonely person. I think he missed Chris very much after he died. The ball breaking was the only social contact that Paulie had.

This proves that you always get what is yours in life. Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts) was originally cast to play Uncle Junior, which he auditioned for but didn't get the part. He lost out, but David Chase called him and told him he had another role for him, and Paulie Walnuts was born!

Brenda Williams I Hated the way they downgraded Uncle Junior. He was the best character on that show.

chasjohn57 Yeah, Junior Soprano was funny as hell! Did you keep a straight face when Junior saw that the FBI was arresting Silvio when he and Bobby showed up late to Jackie Juniors funeral? Junior jumped in the car and almost drove off without Bobby! And oh shit, when the Asian kid in the prison he was in was talking about his father and screamed "fuck you, fuck you!" The look on Juniors face was funnier than the line!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brenda Williams Right Brenda, But since David Chase believes in Karma; Uncle June tried to fake it once when the boom hit him on the courthouse steps. The thing is Had there been a retrial; he would not not been competent.

I can't believe you missed one of the funniest ones of all: Paulie: "You're not gonna believe this. He killed 16 Czechoslovakians. The guy was an interior decorator!" It was in the Pine Barrens episode which you show here.
