Very nice video, thank you for posting it. The only concern I have is perhaps you should remind the viewer to ensure to press the bake pedal several times to ensure proper brake function after you compress the caliper to reinstall it. Don't ask me why I know this, 😉

For the final clean up on the rotor, spray the cleaner onto a clean rag and use it to wipe the rotor surface. That way you won't get any overspray in places you don't want it.

To remove the rotor disc, it's much easier to leave the caliper mounting bracket in place and wedge a screwdriver between the disc face and that bracket. Use a hammer to tap onto the screwdriver. Turn the disc 90° and repeat and the disc will slide off the hub eventually. I've just done this on my 2004 Vibe and this is a charm!

Broke my rubber mallet when eying to get rotor off. Haha...then a pipe wrench...then it finally came off with one last ditch smack to the bottom front of rotor. Brakes working fine. Thanks..my 3rd time doing my brakes but this vid helped me this time for front brakes on my vibe.

Dude. Put some anti seize on the hub before you put your rotor on. Next time you do a brake rotor replacement. She will fall right off.

I, however, would compress the pistons with a c-clamp and an old brake pad!

It most situations you don't need to replace the rotors unless they are warped, and this typically only happens with very hard use. I replaced the pads for the 2nd time at 130,000 miles and the rotors are still in excellent shape and within spec, most likely will last another 150,000 miles.

Good detail on the video- Suggest opening up the bleeder screw on the caliper and allow the old fluid to push out when retracting the caliper piston instead of going back up the lines into the brake system.

how do you open bleeder screw and where is it located? how do catch the old fluid if it spills out? thx

@@bsdgffishtuna5186 In case anyone wants to know it's attached to the caliper (the part with the piston on it, not the caliper bracket). Needs about an 8mm wrench.

For an even better brake job do this. Open the bleeder on the caliper before you compress the piston into the bore.If you don"t your forcing the most contaminated brake fluid back into the system. Just close the bleeder after pushing the piston in and top off the fluid at the master cylinder. You wont need to bleed the line and your brakes will love you all the more.

At 2114 when you were compressing that piston thing did you take the cap off the top of the brake fluid so it would have some place to go when you were compressing it

Not a bad video, but when you compressed the disc caliper back in you pushed all that "OLD" brake fluid back through your brake system which can cause the failure of your anti-lock system. I strongly recommend open the bleed valve, then compressing the cylinder back in then bleed the brakes until you see new fluid (I bleed the brakes before I disassemble the brakes).

is it better to replace the rotors to?
@SevenFortyOne
@SevenFortyOne 7 жыл бұрын
if the old ones are in good shape and you are on a budget then its not really necessary to replace them. If you do replace them I recommend getting the best quality/grade rotors you can get as I've had problems with the cheapo ones. My preference is OEM/Dealer or NAPA best quality....but that's my opinion and not the law of the land. Other brands may be just fine for you but in my experience these are the best.

Yeah you should have had the parking brake on because of your jacked the car up when you're not on level service the front wheel on the other side will either go forward your backwards and the one up in the air will go forwards and backwards and then you drop the car on yourself not good
