From my 6/2022 lipid panel, my triglyceride to HDL ratio was over 6. So, I started my ketogenic lifestyle and one-meal-a-day intermittent fasting, my lipid test from a month ago my triglyceride to HDL ratio dropped to 1.1 So, ketogenic lifestyle and one-meal-a-day intermittent fasting will drop your TG/HDL ratio like a rock.

My ratio is 1.8 from September blood work result as a pre-diabetic. I have been watching my carbohydrates and my sugar intake. I also cut down meals consumption from 3x to 2x per day. No snacks, period. I have lost 7lbs in 3 weeks with all these changes. Can’t wait to see my follow up blood work in December. Thank you for the tip.

Hi Kate and thanks for your excellent interpretation.... new sub x I am in the UK and have been diagnosed with pre diabetes with 44 mmol, used my latest blood tests and your calcs and it showed I'm 1.9 on the scale. I was a bit surprised to be diagnosed a pre-diabetic as I eat healthy and am quite fit for 67, non the less I'm making more effort to eat vegetables and to avoid/reduce bad carbs. Will see if there is any difference in 12 months as this is the interval that the NHS retests my blood. Thanks x

I have to second guess the accuracy of the "poor man's method". Within the last couple of weeks, I had my a1c tested. The result was 6.0 The same bloodwork showed that my triglyerides were 65 and my HDL was 53. The labwork results show that I am clearly pre-diabetic but the poor man's method gives me a score of 1.2 (65/53). Two completely different results. What am I missing?

I have this exact situation as well! I view it as good news that my ratio is low indicating insulin resistance is not my problem. My hgb A1C was 6.1 indicating an average glucose of about 128. I have been wearing a cgm for 3 months and have reduced my average glucose to 109 thru reducing added sugar and carbs. 109 average equates to a hgb A1C of 5.3. I think I am very sensitive to carbs and sugars but not insulin resistant. I would encourage you to wear a cgm and focus on reducing your average glucose levels.

This is why i subscribed to your channel Kaite.. Excellent info like this. I use to be insulin resistant. The big thing with me was water retentions (puffy feet and ankles). As your recommendation i took apple cider vinegar (supplements no gummies they have sugar - defeats the purpose for weight-loss lol) - i could not handle liquid) to combat dawn phenomenon. For what ever reason my body would produce more blood sugar at night this affected my diet. after a couple weeks it my feet are less puffy - just move them. lol - I am now doing intermittent fasting the health coach kait method. The weight is now falling off. Like Kait stated in a video (paraphrasing) you have to get things under control first then move on to your end goal. my end goal was to lost 30 pounds in a month (4-6 weeks) - down 8 pounds already. (yay) by the end of November hope to be less than 210 pounds. i started out with a body reset water fast for 2 days. (first day water) - second day water and some electrolytes (sprinkle of organic Himalaya salt - for minerals) Then I did a sardine fast for 2-3 days. intermittent fasting - i created a 16-8 window (for work purposes - suited my working life) i eat no later than 7 pm if i crave anything - in the evening i usually have a "herbal" tea - no calories won't kick me out of autophagy. Tumerica or ginger , green tea to combat cravings - i use cinnamon (ceylon) - less chemical. to help stabilize my blood sugar. at every meal i eat - FIBRE FATS PROTEIN. to make me feel full at every meal. As Kaitie said FOOD ORDER - i eat fiber first (leafy greens) to provide a mesh in your gut so blood sugar doesn't spike then i eat protein and then healthy fats like an avocado. I eat eggs at every meal. I have a half hour to an hour eating window. YES that long. If you eat too quickly then blood sugar could spike. If you eat and drink too quickly this will tell your body that it needs to process what you just ingested straight away. Eat slow and try to create a more stable blood sugar responses - i learned this trick from bryan Johnson (the most studied man in history) WATER WATER WATER - Kaitie stated water is key. Andrew Huberman stated we as humans require (8oz of water for 10 hours) 96 oz per day. (2.5-3 liters) - this is the key to weight-loss. SUPPLEMENTS APPLE CINDER VINEGAR (20 MINUTES BEFORE BED / 20 MIN BEFORE MEALS) I TAKE THESE IN AFTERNOON AFTER MEALS AND EVENING TO KEEP BLOOD SUGAR STABLE - HELP REDUCE CRAVINGS TUMERIC - OIL BASED IS BEST WITH BLACK PEPPER OR TUMERIC WITH BLACK PEPPER (500MG) X2 DAILY (AFTERNOON + EVENING) CEYLON CINNAMON (AFTERNOON + EVENING) 1 PILL (600MG) GINGER (AFTERNOON + EVENING) (500MG) 1 PILL FENNUGREEK (AFTERNOON + EVENING) (600MG) 1 PILL MULTI VITAMIN (PLANT BASED) OR VITAMIN B COMPLEX (HELPS WITH STRESS AND CONVERT FATS INTO ENERGY) DELAYED RELEASE OR LIPOMOSAL VITAMIN C or Vit C WITH CITRUS bio-flavonoids - (STRESS / CORTISOL AND WEIGHT LOSS) MAGNESIUM BYSGLYCINIATE (150 MG - 200 MG MAX) - IF ANY MORE COULD UPSET STOMACH AND CAUSE DIARREAH) OMEGA 3 FROM FOODS AND SUPPLEMENTS - (IFOS RATED - SPORTS RESEARCH IS REALLY GOOD) - DO NOT BUY IF IN A CLEAR BOTTLE + STORE IN FRIDGE - (DR ANDREW WEIL STATED DISEASE AND EXCESSIVE WEIGHT IS CAUSED BY INFLAMMATION - SO I TAKE A SUPPLEMENT THAT IS HIGHER IN EPA THAN DHA - EPA LOWERS INFLAMMATION AND IS BETTER FOR GETTING INFLAMMATION UNDER CONTROL. DHA IS MORE FOR BRAIN. D3 + K2 (MAKE SURE YOU TAKE WITH OIL - VIT D IS FAT SOLUABLE) IF YOU ARE STILL HAVING TROUBLE - LOWERING CRAVINGS - cutting out sugar KAIT RECOMMENDS --- L-GLUTAMINE - AND IT WORKS I used eggs avocados and supplemented with L-GLUTAMINE THIS hack worked.. FOODS - PROTEIN, LEAN MEATS, EGGS, FISH LIKE SARDINES ETC. LEAFY GREENS FIBRE BELL PEPPERS, GRAPEFRUIT (MODERATION) BERRIES. FOLLOW GLYCEMIC INDEX - SEARCH GOOGLE - 55 BELOW PER SERVING for your food list but kait has some great recommendations like her keto food list guide. Great source. anytime you eat a carb it will turn to sugar. So try to keep them as low as possible. Sugars should be kept 36 grams (9tsp) per day and female 25grams (6tsp) for females per day. Per Kaits recommendation - i went out and purchased a diabetic (finger prick lancet) CGM were too expensive. I now have a baseline blood sugar. Test before and hour after meal (to see how much my sugar spiked) and two hours after ( to make sure my blood sugars are coming down. if sugars does not start to come down after two hours then i may have eaten too many carbs or could indicate pancreas issues body is not producing enough insulin. (my blood sugar - FASTING - 4 to 4.9) the lower the blood sugar (less you have in your body) the better it will be for weight loss. so i try to keep my spikes as low as possible. DURING MY FASTING WINDOW IF I GET CRAVINGS I HAVE AN EGG OR AN AVOCADO WITH SALSA AT NIGHT I STICK TO HERBAL NO CALORIE TEA I START TO EAT BETWEEN 11-12 AND STOP EATING NO LATER THAN 7PM THAN HAVE NO FOOD UNTIL 11AM THE NEXT DAY. i used tips and tricks (hacks if you will) like the apple cider vinegar trick before bed to regulate the night time insulin and to help lose weight. Try to eat foods that will keep blood sugar stable throughout the day by eating fiber, fats, fiber at every meal to keep me full in between meals. I follow loosely based keto diet, diabetic diet, low carb all my foods are anti-inflammatory. I DO NOT count calories nor do i follow any diet plan. I just have an eating window and strict guidelines on how i eat and the times i eat. Kait stated to keep carbs below 100 per day or 50 carbs per day (again paraphrasing) DO NOT go all in on this just drop your carbs - lower your carbs slowly so your body can get use to it. then follow the diet plan i set forth. if your weight-loss stalls or plateaus do a water reset (no food) for 2-3 days. adding electrolytes on the second and third day (if you choose 3 days) then the weight will start to fall off again. I learned this from Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, MD (36 hour water fast) i just do 48 hours to reset my body and mind. Exercise - throughout the day. I don't do 10-20 min. that's it. You gotta move though. After all of this if you still can't lose weight - i had to look at chemicals in my home. i eliminated most of the chemicals i use like scented candles - chemical sprays for cleaning. Then my weight loss started. Chemicals affected my cells and hormones (yes males have those to lol) YOU HAVE TO BE CONSCIOUSLY AWAY ALL DAY EVERYDAY in the things you do - it will be hard at first to get your 80 to 96 oz of water daily. You have to eat when you don't want to eat just to get your macros in for the day. Seems counter intuitive but it is true. Keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day. I have problems with my metabolism and stomach I don't produce enough acid to digest my food. So what does this mean - food stays in my system a lot longer and my sugars stay higher than usual. I have tried everything to lose weight and with my health issues it is working - if i can now lose weight you can to. If you follow these measures - take Kait's advice - YOU WILL lose weight. Sorry my caps lock button was freaking out when i wrote this.. lol SPECIAL THANKS KAITIE for all your hard work in helping us viewers out in life and in our weight loss journey. I very much appreciate all your time you give to us. Keep up the AWESOME work!!

*ahem* "A healthcare provider may order a variety of blood tests to diagnose insulin resistance, including: Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) test: A common test that measures blood sugar after fasting for 8 to 12 hours. Glucose tolerance test (GTT): A two-hour test that involves drinking a high glucose beverage and having blood drawn at regular intervals. The test results are used to calculate an insulin resistance score. Glycated hemoglobin A1c (A1c) test: Measures average blood glucose levels over the past three months. Lipid panel: A group of tests that measure specific lipids in your blood, such as cholesterol and triglycerides. Other tests that may be used to assess insulin sensitivity include: Insulin tolerance test Involves injecting insulin into a vein and measuring blood glucose levels at regular intervals. Adipo-IR A measure of insulin resistance that is obtained from a fasting level of FFA and insulin. Insulin resistance is not commonly tested for, but a doctor may perform an insulin resistance test if prediabetes or type 2 diabetes is suspected."
