A sleepover of an ex-Nickelodeon starlet who licked doughnuts before she could say she hated a country (Ariana Grande), a woman with about a quarter-hundred alter egos (Nicki Minaj) and a woman who deserved better than Bang Bang and Ice Age 5 (Jessie J.).

I've said this forever about Ariana. she can sing her ass off, but her music doesn't show those skills off. when she's goofing off on SNL or the tonight show she's amazing. oddly enough, her albums, with music written for her and selected for her does her no favors. she has "moments" in almost every song, but otherwise it sounds like she was playing "chubby bunny" and forgot to spit out the marshmallows.

I'll be honest, the fact that this song isn't actually sexy at all is what makes it work for me. The wordplay and punchlines go with a big, bombastic background really well. It's basically "Sexy and I Know It" only from the woman's prospective, less focused on body image and more on attitude, and actually good because it doesn't sound like garbage and has punchlines that are actually halfway clever.
@KPater-mf4je
@KPater-mf4je 6 жыл бұрын
It's from the perspective of a home-wrecker and it celebrates sluttiness. There is nothing empowering for women at all -- the lyrics are basically saying "ditch your girlfriend because she won't do the crazy sex shit that I'm willing to do for you because I'm totally morally unrestrained". And a sexy song is allowed to sound sexy and still be from a woman's perspective (see: Venus by Shocking Blue). This song is obviously a copy, both in lyric and in melody, of Lady Marmelade. Whereas Lady Marmelade was discreet in its sexual references (seeing how it's an old song that was even performed on the freaking Beethoven movie, it's a given) and told a tale about one woman in particular who was a Creole prostitute, this song makes no pretense of shamelessness and it sounds like the singers are boasting about their ratchet hoe mentality. While the song's probably empowering to other ratchet hoes and nymphomaniacs out there, we would be living in a sad world indeed if all straight men would ditch hard-working, pretty or friendly girls in favor of hookers with a bad attitude and a drug problem. As for the punchlines -- where are they? There is no cleverness in this, it's faux-cleverness, like when a bad rapper tries to be hip with references but also can't be arsed to find anything to rhyme with "Link" so he pretends that Zelda's the protagonist of LoZ. This is Chris Brown's idea of cleverness.

I love the concept of this song both lyrically and musically (lyrically as in "let's just be loud and call it a song") I think the vocal melodies are pretty good but I think the production is a little too aired out. Like there need to be something more going on, maybe some brass section stuff? I don't know, the bassline is so simple it feels like nothing's going on at points. The real problem for me is something about the vocals. I swear there's autotune or something, if there isn't, then something about Jessie J's voice specifically sounds really weird. Maybe she's just too nasally or something. The song demonstrates that she's a good singer, but doesn't demonstrate that she's a *great* singer. Same with Ariana, a bit too nasally.

I think Jessie J is a very talented singer. She has a huge vocal range and can really belt it out. However, I think she'd be better suited to a different genre. Put her with a rock or jazz band and she could do something amazing. But instead she seems to want to be a pop star, so she does the same pop songs written by the same pop artists, that's why she may appear to have no personality. It's not her, it's the teams or writers and producers that make her sound like everybody else. I've heard recordings of her just singing, no auto tune, no effects, just her singing into her webcam and it sounds ten times better than anything she's ever released.

Jessie J is an outstanding vocalist, but a pretentious artist. She's as fake as what she preached everyone else to be ever since Price Tag. I think she has given up on a pop career, now. Her latest album series is more soul than pop. Plus, she just won the Singer 2018 competition in China. Big bucks for her over there.

AHHH I love Jessie J. She is so heartfelt and sweet. Her song "Who You Are" and "Big White Room" melt me. Don't count her out just yet. Plus she has an amazing range and control of her voice. She can blow away a crowd like Whitney Houston if she wants.

given how loud the song is, and Jessie J powerful, rock-esque vocals, maybe they should listened to "Fire Woman" by the Cult and built off that.

I disagree that Jessie J isn't sexy, but she is not an interesting artist in the slightest. She so desperately wants to be Katy Perry. Ariana is cute and has great vocals and Nicki is....Nicki. I guess I like the song because of the hook and the idea that the 3 most random artists in the entire world got together and did a song. Seriously. Never would have expected these three to collaborate.
