I remember the first time I heard this song and thought it was like somebody on Drake's team was really trying to sabotage him this time. I mean seriously, Drake, who is infamous for dancing horribly, makes a song explicitly about dancing (where he COMPARES HIMSELF TO MICHAEL JACKSON) in which he talks about gang shit AND luxury porn AND feels, accompanied by a beat that COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM CAPTURING DANCING, GANG SHIT, LUXURY PORN, OR FEELS. But...you're right. Within the context of a global pandemic where fun social activities that were happening just this year seem like a distant memory, and everything in our lives is now completely colored by crippling anxiety and soul-crushing loneliness - this is fucking perfect. I can understand the appeal of the monotone song that gives off a low-key mood to chill to....I mean there’s been songs in the past that do that. But, regardless of age, can we all agree there’s a difference between monotone songs that establish a mood and those that just come across like you recorded the first shit you thought of right after a night of downing cough syrup?
