Love is literally absent in psychopathy, they can't feel nor express that emotion. So in that light Lecter's crazyness is really challenged when it comes to Starling. I've always seen Lecter as something else than crazy in the simplicity of that context. The character is just too posh and media sexy. Buffalo Bill was in vulgar terms a pure wacko, Levine captured the reality of people like Gein into the character very well. But Hopkins psychopath is like a Barbie doll of the bothersome. Even Verger was more messed up, while Lecter clearly lives just for a feeling and sees a clear line to achieve them.

That boy won't know a y difference.. and what ya don't know won't hurt . Also clarisse is. An fbi agent who didn't want her heart broken. Because Hannibal is a heart breaker anyway.

This scene is so f**king dumb... When you consider how much of an High IQ level genius Lecter is supposed to be he knows all he has to do to break out of those handcuffs with a minimum of fuss is to break his thumb and slip his hand through the cuffs... but instead he does the dumb, dramatic, Eleventh hour, Hollywood-rewrite thing and cuts his entire hand off 🙄

It’s annoying, and disappointing. The film was made too quickly, but Hopkins wasn’t getting any younger and Foster wasn’t interested. At that point, stick to the book and go all the way.
