POR-15 Stop Rust Paint System

Having read so much about this paint, I thought I would try it. My test is challenging for any paint - rust-proofing the underside of a lawn mower deck. What I did: after removing any loose rust, I applied the recommended two stage preparation process then two coats of this paint and allowed several days to dry before running the mower. I ran the mower for one grass cutting session - about an hour of continuous use cutting two acres of grass, then inspected the painted surface. My conclusion: if the preparation steps are carefully followed the paint does seem to adhere well to rusty areas. However, it appeared to have a tendency to peel off as a sheet in areas that were not rusty. I know this paint is described as POR (paint over rust), but clearly in reality a useful paint needs to cover a range of surfaces, not just rusty ones. I’m afraid for this reason, combined with the ridiculously high price, especially if the preparation stages are used (and it seem to work much less well if they are not - I tried this also), I can’t give a more favourable assessment. One thing I do know though is that this stuff is very expensive - at now £55 for a US pint(!) of just the paint (not including the preparation). And for those in the UK, please note, this is not a British ("imperial") pint of 20 imperial fluid ounces (568 ml) but a significantly smaller American pint of only 16 US fluid ounces (473 ml).

When painting over old paint that can't be removed or smooth surfaces, it is recommended to scuff with 180-220 grit paper or pads. Unfortunately it wasn't made clear in the video.

Can you please produce a video about how to use POR-15 (which product) for rust inhibitor to remove and stop rust to continue to develop for car/SUV B-pillar and C-Pillar? Thanks!

Too bad the kit only contained one brush and a foam brush. Maybe two bristle brushes would be better?

If I have the car sprayed with rust-proofing (Krown) will it affect the POR?

Krown, fluid film and other temporary oil base sealants can be applied over POR-15 without issue. We see people using these temporary oil films for interior cavities of frames. POR-15 Rust Preventive is a far superior solution for rust prevention, so you would be wasting the Krown or other oil sealant by putting it over POR-15 Rust preventive. Using it where you didn't apply POR-15 would make sense. Note Oil, Grease and loose material must be removed from surfaces prior to painting with all POR-15 products or any other paint for best adhesion. You can apply the Crown or Fluid Film type products after POR-15 has cured.

@@POR15videos Thank you. I plan on spraying fluid film in areas like lower door seams, inside some closed frame rails, and in areas where the POR is not feasible or effective.

So if I put this on a frame of a car would I need the UV protective top coat?

Top coating is Not necessary unless the frame is frequently exposed to sunlight / UV light. An example of when a frame with the stop rust system should be topcoat would be a dune buggy, highboy/lifted truck or jeep, etc

@@POR15videos cool. So scotch bright area and paint away. Works for me. Seems simple enough.
