I can testify to experiencing life in an unbelievably better way when I had abstinence for about a month recently, it was like the grass was green for the first time in a long time. I had greater sense of humor that I felt like I lost before becoming addicted, nature struck me as beautiful, something I could not see before, my imagination was much more vivid and stronger, my social awkwardness and insecurity was just gone, and I felt overall more mature.

I’m calling “bullshit” on this. Only in this society do we put psychological restraints on things that we not only do naturally and are necessary for life but can be enjoyed as well for its own sake. We screw ourselves ( no pun intended) out of the life we would want to lead pursuing things we don’t need to please people who really don’t count. First, there’s no shame in being horny. It’s no more a moral failing than being thirsty or hungry. It’s a human need that has to be met. Now, we live in a time where those needs can be met relatively easily; you don’t have to hunt for your food, find water or compete physically for companionship. This isn’t Pon Farr on Vulcan. We’re not Masai and we’re not Spartans, we’re average middle class Americans with a little bit of disposable income available. You can have just about anything you want within this society. But there are those who for some reason ( mostly religious) think you’re better off by adopting their idea of happiness. Now back in the day when people like that had influence, you’d go along with that program. Some were ok with that, most weren’t. As time went on and people gained more knowledge, these people had less influence. But that didn’t mean it was out of the culture altogether. Due to our early indoctrination, we’ve internalized these “social rules and customs” that govern our lives even though they don’t make sense to us.

@DAngelo 136 You are saying we should treat sexual instinct like any other desire hunger, thirst etc. However to me it seems you are suggesting we should treat it unlike any other instinct. When someone eats too much they get fat. It's unhealthy. We can not just push one dopamine button continuously without it having negative effects.

NOTES: Where does motivation come from? - Comes from a connection between the prefrontal cortex and the reward circuit - When demotivated, it’s because of the fried connection between the prefrontal cortex and reward circuit and also that those two regions are not functioning the way they are supposed to - NoFap and SR fixes the prefrontal cortex, reward circuit, and the connection between these two regions - Rewire your brain to get motivation from happiness, instead of simply getting motivation from pleasure Sub-processes - Reward seeking behavior - The brain learns that certain activities are more rewarding, and the dopamine links the source of your pleasure to behavior that allows you to destress - Value-based decision making - Your brain learns where it gets its rewards and makes decisions about what’s it’s going to do to get those rewards - Prefrontal cortex controls your decision making. Hypofrontality is the condition where your prefrontal cortex is completely hijacked. - Gain awareness over neural processes to get rid of hypofrontality - Control your brain or it will control you - The ability to exercise control over your neural processes How to change your brain to create a life that you love - Take concepts you enjoy and seek to implement and then turn them into action steps - Stay vigilant and disciplined in creating the life that you want

Dr. Trish, does the same happen to games, sugary foods, bad things like that?
@pedro26243 жыл бұрын
Yes ofcourse, all these activities stimulate your reward system and release Dopamine into your synapses (to bind to their receptors). There is an entire concept behind motivation and success (higher executive functioning and better decision making), ITS called: Dopamine Detox. This is a process where you drain your brain from dopamine by subsuding from participating in activities that uselessly trigger your reward system and release the neurotransmitter Dopamine. What happens after a while of draining your brain of its quick-to-go dopamine releasing stimuli is that your brain shifts its focous on other activities which you choose, such as producitivty, hobby, gym, work, study and music and literally starts releasing more dopamine to these stimuli. The whole companies study intensly on how to addict their consumers so start shifting your dopamine sources from quick-pleasure-sourcey such as porn, sugary, video games, netflix and fast food and switch after a while to other activities and you will see how more enjoyable and EASY they become. Google Dopamine Detox for more info (or search on youtube). By the way good thought you had there. :) best of luck.

Thanks Dr. needed this. I am still a work in progress, but I will get there. I kind of gave up on my immediate career goals. But I now see all this was connected. I will say this since I started subscribing , my sex life with girlfriend improved dramatically. Thank You!!
