If you feel inside the pushrod tube hole in the head , on one side nearest the springs, you will feel a sharp ridge , it's a sharp edge of the casting. If you watch as you push the pushrod tube in , on the side with the ridge , the ridge tries to drag the O ring out of the groove in the pushrod tube . This is what causes the resistance to the tube going in easily Either gently with a die grinder and sanding roll or with some 80 grit wet and dry paper just roll the sharp edge over so it no longer feels sharp on your finger . This takes minutes to do with a sanding roll but have a go at fitting the pushrod tube now If you watch the O ring , instead of it getting dragged out on that side , it equally compresses in and you can push the pushrod tube in easily with your finger . Sometimes , having to push the tube hard over that ridge takes a shaving off the O ring and then it will always leak . I noticed all this when fitting a set of new pushrod tube seals on an engine fitted in a T25 . The outer O rings were the green ones in the Victor Reinz gasket kit and i noticed some very small shavings of gteen O ring in the head rocker cover area after installation of the tubes with new seals . This is what caused me to investigate what was shaving the edge off the O ring

Thanks for the tip, Peter. I will take a look at it when I do a tear down.

No problem Rod . I've just done the same trick on the heads for the 2270 i'm just finishing for my girlfriends 1984 T25

Female end of a 6" 1/2" drive extension works pretty good for pushing the pushrod tubes in.....

If you sand that ridge off like i described, you can push them in with your finger easily

It was my understanding that after heating the exhaust gaskets, you wanted to let them cool slowly… which is how I’ve always done it. Maybe I’m wrong?

I don't know for sure, but this has worked so far for me.

i blinked and missed the pushrods going in! Do you have the pushrods numbered?

Robert, all the intake are cut to the same length and same with the exhaust. There is no need to measure each and everyone separately.
